What are they? I've seen a few threads mentioning playoffs and while the intention is admirable it's also not gonna happen.

What are your realistic goals for the team this season?

I would say 3rd in the division (behind NYM and Philadelphia) and above 75 wins would be an absolutely marvelous season.

70+ wins will make me ecstatic.

I think it's laughable that you are so pessimistic about the playoffs.

This team is only SEVEN POINT FIVE games behind Cincinnati (and only SIX losses, which is more important).

It's halfway through June--you don't think we have a chance to make up 7-8 games in almost 3 months?

Homer, you are being your name. No team w/ 18+ rookies and a $15M payroll is making the playoffs. I will send you $20 if they do.

I love them and this is probably my all-time favorite Marlins team, but I'm not about to get delusional.

We're also behind about 10 teams. Let's not get too excited about the playoffs, and just enjoy the way we're playing right now.

There always has to be a first at something. Sure their chances of making the playoffs are low but it is probable. If this team keeps playing good baseball, they could turn into a cousin of the 03 marlins. No world series but can make the playoffs. Just be positive and hope for at least third place.

They've been getting some good pitching of late and they've been on a good run. Realistically, if they finish above .400, or 65 wins, it would be a minor miracle. They've been fun to watch for the last few weeks. But it wasn't much fun in April and early May, and I don't think it will be much fun in August and September. The season is about individual progress from the youngsters, not about wins. I'm a big fan.....I love my Marlins...but the betting windows are still open for those that want to go over 65 wins this year.

My goal going into the season was just to get all the players ready for the next level. I think 70 wins is a good goal.

If this season is about individual progress from the youngsters, and we are expecting them to get better as the season unfolds, why is the postseason so unrealistic? I didn't expect this team to play this well so quickly and I'm sure there are very few who did.

In the beginning of the season, if we had imagined them to play this well by the end of the year we would have been happy. But they are playing this well RIGHT NOW and they will continue to get even better as time goes on.

Sure, they won't always be this hot, but they are learning as they are winning, and their progression will translate into more wins later on. It's definitely a stretch to say they will make the postseason, but it isn't a stretch to say they could make the postseason. Just because these guys are rookies doesn't mean they can't keep it up.

I get mad sometimes when people actually say those things.

I have my name for a reason, duh. Stop acting like you're surprised.

My expectations are now what they were from the start, 75-80 wins.

The inexperience works against us and helps us. These guys are practically kids and go out there and play their hearts out and could easily get themselves into contention possibly should we keep playing this good or even better.

It's still early though and once we get into late August and September some of these guys might fatigue, since many of them haven't even played close to 162 games in a season.

Whatever though, I'm excited! This team is good and will be great real soon.

My expecations is that they have a winning season. Just one game over .500 and I am happy.

whomever took the over in the start of the year is going to make a fortune

70+ wins will make me ecstatic.

I feel the same way.

Finding a legitimate long term solution at 1B, 2B, SS, RF, LF, 3-4 SP's and a few bullpen arms (I already consider Cabrera and Willis, if he stays, to be key cogs in the future) would be unbelieveable, and if some of these guys keep playing the way they have been the past few weeks/over the course of the season it'll happen.

Until the team proves they are not going to continue to roll off wins, I am going to keep the faith. All the payroll demonstrates is that the team does not have a proven roster. Unproven does not mean not ready.

Never say never, but I just think a team this young has at least a couple more long losing streaks in them. I'm pretty amazed at how almost everyone seems to be panning out. There are very few players on this team where you could say they might not make it on the major league level. The only flameouts this season are Vargas, possibly Abercrombie, and maybe I'm missing a couple of people, because I will readily admit I haven't been paying the closest attention.

I think our success rate with the players has truly defied the odds, so in that sense I think we've already met our goals for the season. They're clearly not going to lose 100 games, which I thought they would. Now the question is can they make .500. I'm going to say it's unlikely, but it's something to shoot for, if we don't make a run at the playoffs.

You have had the betting windows open for a while now (for the over). :D

Up until today I still loved the under. Tonights win changed that. That under is lookin kinda scary now.

BTW. I took a peek at my 5 to win 2000 (NLCS) future's wager today and for the first time all year I didnt shake my head in complete disgust.

whomever took the over in the start of the year is going to make a fortune

Not necessarily. That is not a long shot type futures wager. You probably had to wager 100 to win 90 for example.
