June 26, 200620 yr I posted this in another thread but didnt want to go to off topic so i deleted it and reposted here . Some idiot red sox fan was on the radio the other night and said " We [the red sox] are a good team b/c we beat up on the cupcakes, like tampa, kansas city, and the marlins." The moron host then said "The sox have an easy road schedule b/c for example they played the mets in boston, but they play the marlins in florida, in a cupcake environment" What pisses me off about those idiots is that first, the red sox havent beat the marlins this year b/c we havent played yet. Second, we've been the hottest team in baseball over the last month, hotter than the red sox for example. So why dont these simpletons wait til after the series to say stupid things like this. By the way i dont kno what show it was, it was on a Friday night at around 11:30-12:30 on 790 AM in miami
June 26, 200620 yr 6,000 people is a cupcake environment. However the Marlins are by no means a cupcake team.
June 26, 200620 yr JT the Brick. He's a Yankees fan who has been griping about 'uneven' schedules for the Sox as opposed to the Yankees all year. P.S Don't be so sensitive.
June 26, 200620 yr You would think a major sports radio host in South Florida would know the goings of the baseball team right? Hank Goldberg stated on the radio this morning that the Tampa Bay Devil Rays won three in a row the last time the teams met and the Marlins need to "get even". Wow.

Even though I dont like Goldberg what he said is correct. The Marlins did lose 3 in a row last time against the Devil Rays and the Marlins do need to get even with them.
June 26, 200620 yr Author Never said I was deeply offended by his remarks. I just wanted to bring up a discussion. Either way, dolphin ISN'T a cupcake environment b/c of the way we've been winning there lately, so who cares how many fans there are. We have homefield advantage. The sox fan who called was just as bad b/c apparently he thinks the sox already beat the marlins.

Ok I must be going nuts then because the way I remember it we got swept in Tampa AND then we swept them at home.... Can someone help us out?

Sorry everyone, I hit the enter button twice without posting. Anyway, you are lost in a time zone, we have not played them at home this year.

June 26, 200620 yr I don't worry about what Steve Phillips says because most people know not to take him seriously. But pointing out that he said something stupid and flipping out over it are 2 very different things. He did make the comment about Game 6, however, he ALSO said Cabrera was the only one left from that team - so he was not correct.
June 26, 200620 yr This board is waaaaaay too sensitive. First people bitch about a national broadcaster, who does not live and breathe Marlins baseball, forgetting that Dontrelle Willis was not on the Word Series team (and from what I hear, everyone misinterpretted what he said anyway). You think thats bad, my man, you should go take a visit to the "other sports" forum, they jump on you if you say one little thing about their team.

The fact is regardless of how hot the marlins have been, they are still 7 games under .500. So most people are still going to sh*t on them until they get to .500 or better. Lets just win games and dont care about what someone says.
June 27, 200620 yr sadly we are playing in a cupcake environment....DS is a football stadium not a baseball stadium..don't take things like this personally though. i remember reading david well's book, it pissed me off when he mentioned the twins and expos possibly relocating but then he said they should stay where they are and the team that should be moved is the marlins. he said they were in a horrible stadium-the worst in the bigs-and they have no buisness having a team. he also mentioned the horrid weather, mainly the heat, but it's probably a little hotter for david than it is for most of us because he has a little extra "insulation" if you know what i mean
June 27, 200620 yr DS will hardly be a cupcake environment this weekend...I say 30K plus all 3 games...all Sox Fans
June 27, 200620 yr We've managed to somehow win 2 World Series in the last 10 years in what some call a football field. If we had a decent lease I'd be happy with 2 more World Series on this football field in the next 30 years. . . . The fact is that it is a cupcake environment on paper. 6000 fans most days...with the Red Sox in town maybe 25000 fans, half Sox fans. Not exactly a hostile environment. . . But JT the bricks**t house is not right to complain about any inequities in the schedule year to year. The Yankees Natural rival is the Mets. The Sox's natural rival is the Phillies. That's an advantage to the Red Sox in most years. Just in the same way that the Marlins get the D'Rays as their natural rival every year. I'm a Marlin fan so I'm happy with this year in and year out. But in some years, when you may have a close division or wild card race betwen the Mets and the Marlins....is it fair that the Mets have to play the Yankees 6 times every year, and the Marlins get the Devil Rays 6 times every year.
June 27, 200620 yr i hope to see marlins beat red sox sorry former marlins player i still love you guys this weekend i might get ticket saturday game and i have ticket to sunday already goooo marlins
June 27, 200620 yr Author This board is waaaaaay too sensitive. First people bitch about a national broadcaster, who does not live and breathe Marlins baseball, forgetting that Dontrelle Willis was not on the Word Series team (and from what I hear, everyone misinterpretted what he said anyway). And now this. Look, it's nice and all that the Marlins have been playing good baseball lately, but there still is a lot that they need to prove. And quite frankly, who gives a damn what radio broadcasters of other teams say? Apparently you have a misunderstanding of internet message boards. No one is sensitive or crying about anything. I brought a statement up for discussion. To show what someone in the national media thinks about the marlins. Its much more of a discussion starter to re-assert our underdog role than any form of whinign or bitching. Remember that this a discussion board, topics get started so we can discuss. either way it's fun to complain about stupid radio broadcasters
