Can Kearns play cf? I know he has the arm but does he have the speed?

I deal Olsen to the first good deal we get.....kid's mediocre and going to get in trouble for that crappy attitude he's got.

jeez.... mediocre? come on

The Latest with St. Louis

* thinks jocketty is trolling for another pitcher ... Thinks they will make a run at Dontrelle Willis if (very doubtful) FLA makes D Will available)... Joe said some players questioned Ponson's DFA, believing that Ponson was a convenient scapegoat ... Said team morale got a major boost in Houston ... Will keep an eye on Washington (soriano, vidro, hernandez, vidro) if Jim Bowden has a fire sale ... But thinks a trade for someone like David Delucci is more likely ... Indicated the Cardinals would take a look if the Phillies were serious about trading Burrell.

We also had Joe Buck on from Pittsburgh and he was terrific... Joe said cardinals are flawed but will win a division. Says his No. 1 wish for the team is a LF who can bat 5th ... Says the window is closing on the group and Cardinals must overpay to get someone who can help them win now ... We teased Buck about his Holiday Inn commercial with the guys wanting to touch his throat - said he'll now have drunks across America REALLY wanting to do that when they see him out in public...

Strickland reported Mulder (and the future Mrs. Mulder, a PNX native) want to be with the Diamondbacks next year. Andy is right. That's the buzz around the team.

Abreu to the Yankees is more likely to happen than not, IMO.

For the Phillies, it'll be a straight salary dump and attitude adjustment more than anything, an old "Yankee special."

Plus, Abreu plugs into Sheffield's contract for next season and if they decide to retain Abreu and Sheff, they can split time between right and DH.

Makes a heck of a lot of sense for the Yankees, and Phillies as Abreu's worn on them and that money could be reinvested this offseason.

Met trade winds blowing

Eye Javy as Pedro still ails

CHICAGO - The Mets may have found a partner willing to deal a starting pitcher after all, which could be even more pressing as Pedro Martinez is about to miss his third straight start.

The White Sox have been calling around to clubs - including the Mets - letting it be known that Javier Vazquez or Freddy Garcia would be available. The price: top-notch relief help, which would allow the Sox to fortify their bullpen leading to closer Bobby Jenks, sources told the Daily News. Chicago has 23-year-old Brandon McCarthy ready to step into its rotation.

I don't see how or why the Mets would meet that asking price.

Heilman and Sanchez plus a prospect...steep and stupid to me, but go for it Omar!

Heilman and a midlevel prospect. Neither guy is having a great season. Vazquez isn't really better than anything we already have and Garcia is giving up a lot of homers. Neither is a real bargaining chip.

I remember when Mets_bs argued with me about Pedro's health for the life of his contract.

And? And you told us he had a torn labrum and how he wouldn't last more than a year. He's missed four starts over a year and a half -- how many has Curt Schilling missed? Without Pedro there's a good chance there's no Beltran, Delgado, or any of the international prospects we signed. He's well worth the money.

A decidedly drab pitching market is on the verge of receiving a major shot in the arm. The White Sox are sending out word that they're willing to trade one of two veteran front-line starters -- either Freddy Garcia or Javier Vazquez -- if a team will relinquish a top-flight setup man. One potential target is Phillies All-Star closer Tom Gordon.

If anything's weaker than the starting-pitching market right now, it's the relief market. But if anyone's capable of injecting life into both markets simultaneously, it's White Sox general manager Ken Williams, who has outworked

Wow the price for good middle relievers is absurd.

ESPN: Brandon McCarthy and Brian Anderson to the Giants for Jason Schmidt?

If I'm the Giants I jump all over this.

If I'm the Giants I jump all over this.

Why would the White Sox do that?

I don't know if I would do McCarthy for Schmidt stragiht up. Plus if the Sox did that they would have to go trade for a CFer and they would have already spent their best trading chip in McCarthy.

Austing Kearns is on the block.

According to cnnsi.com:

"The Reds are offering outfielder Austin Kearns for pitching in hopes of repeating the Wily Mo Pena trade that put GM Wayne Krivsky on the map. Krivsky would be wise to try to resurrect the Kearns-for-Jake Westbrook deal that was discussed earlier this season, though that may be difficult because Westbrook's value has continued to rise while Kearns' has not. Krivsky might have no choice but to try to dangle Adam Dunn, perhaps as a DH to an AL team, to get what he needs."

How does Scott Olsen for Austin Kearns sound ?

For Brandon Moss, I'd consider it

LOL, Elmer Dessens.

BTW, there have been some local ESPN radio reports stating the Tigers just acquired Soriano for Humberto Sanchez and Omar Infante. Probably BS, but who knows. If true that's a nice trade for both teams.

I'd take Elmer over Loshe any day. Loshe is just as bad as Mays/Claussen which we already have. If we didn't have to give up anything of note, I wouldn't mind having Elmer as the 5th starter at all.

We need to stay way from Sanders. Narron has man crushes on vets (see Aurila whom he gives some of Edwin's playing time), and he would probably play Reggie over Denorfia. I wouldn't mind having Reggie as a power bat off the bench, but Narron wouldn't use him that way. He also makes 5 mil. the next 2 years, so the Royals would have to eat alot of that contract.

Reggie Sanders is like a mercenary.....man has way too much talent to be moving so much....
