Josh Johnson & Dan Uggla named NL co-Rookies of the Month for June

Featured Replies

Florida Marlins teammates Josh Johnson and Dan Uggla have been voted National League co-Rookies of the Month of June.

Uggla, the first Marlins' rookie to be named an All-Star since Dontrelle Willis in 2003, led all N.L. rookies with a .706 slugging percentage and was tied for rookie leader with seven home runs. He batted .309 (21-68) with 14 runs, 15 RBI, two doubles, two triples and a .373 on-base percentage. He currently leads all rookies in batting average and ranks 2nd in HR and RBI.

Johnson, who becomes the first player to win the award in back-to-back months since Zach Duke (July-August 2005), went 3-1 over his four starts this month. In his 25.1 innings pitched he yielded just seven runs (five earned) on 28 hits. He also walked 13 and struck out 23. Josh has yet to strike out fewer than four batters and has allowed no more than three earned runs in any of his starts since joining the rotation on May 4th.

Other rookies receiving votes included their Florida teammates Mike Jacobs (.361, 4 HR, 13 RBI), Scott Olsen (3-1, 2.12 ERA, 29 SO) and Jeremy Hermida (.345, 1 HR, 8 RBI); the Dodgers' Matt Kemp (.293, 7 HR, 16 RBI), Russell Martin (.326, 3 HR, 20 RBI), Andre Ethier (.344, 1 HR, 9 RBI) and Takashi Saito (0-0, 0.00 ERA, 3 SV); and San Francisco's Jonathan Sanchez (2-0, 0.00 ERA, 7 SO).

Josh Johnson and Dan Uggla will each receive a specially-designed award for being voted National League co-Rookies of the Month for June.

Congrats to both. I wonder what the record is for consecutive Rookie of the Month awards. Or who won the most RotM awards in a season. Anyone know?

That's pretty sweet. What's the special award?

JJ Twice in a row! Uggla from 2nd to T-1st! very nice. If only JJ made the all star team. I have no doubt that he is 1st or 2nd on the alt. list should a pitcher get hurt, but I believe his performance yesterday kept him out.

Lost in all this and not to take anything away from my boy Uggla or JJ, but you look at Mike Jacobs who was injured what seemed like the better part of June had an extraordinary month as well. .361/.397/.639/1.036 .

You look at this team and you have to wonder how good can they be by 2008 if they stay together and continue to mature as ballplayers? !!!

Very nice. Congrats to both!
