Wow loaded with former members of our team.....Penny starting pitcher...intresting twist....along with former Fish Renteria, LoDuca and Pudge

does it irritate anyone else that Lo Duca is starting the all star game? Olivo is having a better year than him and isnt even in the All star game...this fan voting has got to go

It happens every year at at least 4 spots. Just let it slide off your back, the fan voting isnt going anywhere.

You just need the right perspective, this is a popularity contest not an actual "best players of the first half" game.

Brad Penny?!!??!?!?! Is La Russa trying to lose for us????

Brad Penny?!!??!?!?! Is La Russa trying to lose for us????

I think he already knows the reality....

It's the AL's game to lose.

I guess the Marlins will have to win the WS in an AL City game 7.

yeah...i know...to both parts of your post...its just a shame, ya know...i wish they could have a minimum of players from each team so that other teams in their respective leagues are more evenly dispensed

Brad Penny?!!??!?!?! Is La Russa trying to lose for us????

Well he is 10-2 with a 2.91 ERA this year...

Plus what's wrong with Penny?

BTW you meant Phil Garner :mischief

hahaha....always seems like it's La Russa...I wonder what Joe's going to do next year :shifty

Why not Brad Penny?

because he's not as deserving as Webb, Capuano, Schmidt, Arroyo, or Zambrano

The rationale for Penny is that he hasn't started since July 5th.

Ozzie saying Kenny Rogers is the best pitcher in the AL for his rationale is an utter joke.

Sadly, it's all about wins...that's all that a lot of people look at.

the AL lineup is pretty damn good. the NL lineup is okay but one change: switch bay and wright in the order.

the AL Lineup does look more formidable....

The only two you can really argue about are Webb and Schmidt and considering Webb started Saturday and Schmidt started Sunday they shouldnt pitch in the All Star game.

Francisco Liriano has been named as a replacement for Jose Contreras on the AL All-Star team.

Contreras threw 114 pitches on Sunday, so manager Ozzie Guillen wasn't going to want to use him tomorrow. Liriano, the major league leader in ERA, will probably get an inning in during the game. Jul. 10 - 2:46 pm et

Thats good news.

Couple notes.

Reyes pulled out because of a hand injury, Eckstein replaces him.

Contreas pulled out because he pitched yesterday, Lirano replaces him.

Liriano, Eckstein added to All-Star game

PITTSBURGH - Lucky for Francisco Liriano that someone in his family picked up the phone. The Minnesota rookie ace was added to the AL All-Star team Monday after Jose Contreras pitched himself out of a spot while St. Louis shortstop David Eckstein replaced injured Jose Reyes on the NL side.

Left off the original roster and barely beaten out in Internet fan voting for the final place, Liriano headed home to the Dominican Republic for the All-Star break.

That's when he got the call ? sort of. Unable to find him, the AL turned to Boston star David Ortiz, and the Dominican slugger phoned Liriano's brother. Eventually, the Twins located their young pitcher.

Liriano is 10-1 with a 1.83 ERA, and 102 strikeouts in only 88 1-3 innings.

Contreras threw six innings for the

Chicago White Sox on Sunday, so the AL decided it needed another pitcher for Tuesday night's game.

Boston's Curt Schilling was next in line ? the pecking order was determined when all AL players made their picks ? but he pitched six innings against Contreras and also took a line drive off the right elbow.

"I'm not bothered or disappointed I'm not going to pitch," Contreras said through a translator. "I pitch for my team, to help my team win, and we're fighting for the division now.

"Yesterday was a good game ? a long game ? and I made 117 pitches and I'm very happy to be here at the All-Star game. I wish I could pitch, but it's more important I be ready for Friday to help my team win," he said.

Reyes cut his lefty pinky sliding headfirst into first base Friday night for the

New York Mets. He won the fan voting at shortstop ? Atlanta's Edgar Renteria will start in his place. Eckstein, who started for the NL last year, is hitting .311.

Reyes said he was disappointed over not being able to play in his first All-Star game.

"Injuries are part of the game," he said. "But I'm still here, I'm going to enjoy it. I'm not going to be there on the field, but I can't do anything about it."

that's a joke Eckstein made the team

Still hating because of 02?

Besides, I don't see anything wrong with him being named as a replacement especially since he had a very good first half.
