July 12, 200619 yr its not like the astros really gave up anything to get huff. if anything he is an improvement over lane.
July 12, 200619 yr Rays may come out ahead with Zobrist. I follow the international game..last year, he played for Davey Johnson at the IBAF World Cup in Holland. In the 9 games the US played, he was second in hitting on the US squad going 10 for 20 for a .333 average. Had a solo HR and 5 RBI. Johnson wanted him again for the Olympic pre-qualifier in Phoenix last November, but the Astros said no. Don't be surprised if whoever is managing the USA at the COPABE Olympic Qualifier in late August wants Zobrist on the squad again. He's good.
July 12, 200619 yr wow thats a good pick up from the 'stros....they mean business with Clemens and now Huff.
July 12, 200619 yr Huff is a bad player. His average OPS over the last 3 years isn't even over 800, and he doesnt have the peripherals to overcome that. He also sucks defensively. Very mediocre player. Don't think Huff puts the Astros over the top. I don't know why everyone thinks this is a bad trade for the Devil Rays. Aubrey Huff is heavily overrated, apparently. Huff is not a bad player. He has shown flashes of being a consistently good left handed bat, but fell off last season and seems to slowly making his way back up. His offensive statistics are very middle of the road (actually bad, in my opinion) and he is terrible defensively. That makes him a bad player. I don't factor in potential. Isn't he almost 30 years old? I'm not saying he's a great player and I do agree that he is overrated. But I feel that he would be a great piece of a winning team as a platooning left-handed bat. If you're looking for him to be an everyday dominant player - no. If you're looking for him to be an everyday great player - no. But if you want someone who can do a pretty good job here and there, well Huff can do that. His numbers were never "bad" by any means, outside of a couple of years. He averages 20 HRs and around 80 RBIs a year. His career averages are .287/.343/.477. I'd take it. I agree he is overpayed and overrated, but he can be a pretty good piece of a winning puzzle.
July 12, 200619 yr I'm just glad that something finally got done with Huff. It was never a question of whether or not he would be traded, just a question of when and for what. The D-Rays sure take their time in dealing their talent away for talent that will be dealt away in a few years. At least we are very delibarate in our firesales.
July 12, 200619 yr should be interesting to see how Huff reacts with at bats that mean something in July for the first time in his career
July 13, 200619 yr This is the fleece of the year so far. Tampa still holds the title of worst deal maker.
July 13, 200619 yr Well this isn't very good news for the rest of the NL Central. I will wait to see what Wayne has up his sleeve before I get worried though.

July 14, 200619 yr Yea it's only one game but I'm actually getting worried.. was watching when that happened.. because quite frankly it's still boring as hell watching my team nightly.. gotta make a move one of these days and I'm not talking about Weaver.. DAMN!

Appearantly, the D-Rays think Zobrist can end up being their full time starting SS...which is weird with Brignac working his way up. Starting to work things out, with Upton possibly moving to 3B if his expieriment there pans out, Cantu @ 2B, and Bankston @ 1B, and one of Brignac or Zobrist eventually @ SS.
