August 4, 200620 yr This annoyed me when they did it to the Phils, and now they're doing it to the Marlins, just thought you'd like to know. Sportscenter left out the phillies when they were 4.5 back in the WC a few days ago despite other teams being listed in the same place. They're now doing it to the Marlins, the Stro's are the only team they list as 4 back in the WC on their table. Unless you are the Yankees, Red Sox, Cardinals or Mets, SC doesn't care if they get to your highlights or not. It seems like no matter if a team won 40 games in a row, SC would still be talking about those three teams. 4 games back is absoloutly unbelievable. Who on earth would've thought this is what this year would turn out like? Keep up the great play and keep winning, Fish! We can do this. There are 4 teams in your post. Syder (MarlinsTroll), you previously used the word "worser" in this thread. That's all.
August 4, 200620 yr Alright, I did a very rough guesstimate on our chances, and I think it's highly possible to go 34-20 the rest of the way, which would give us 85 wins, which would probably be enough to make it. Of course, this requires winning some series on the road and sweeping teams like the Dodgers and Phillies at home, but it could happen.
August 4, 200620 yr Baseball Prospectus' system, which accounts for future strength of schedule, is putting us with a 4.7% chance.
August 4, 200620 yr Baseball Prospectus' system, which accounts for future strength of schedule, is putting us with a 4.7% chance. Bah. I don't believe in that stuff. Right now, we're playing the best baseball out of everyone. We'll be hard to count out.
August 4, 200620 yr I'm just happy we don't have to face Maddux. He pitched last night so don't worry, like it matters anyway, didn't we shell him last time? lol, I remember when he aggresively chucked the baseball at the ground in disgust and when he took his bat to the cooler The Reds are falling apart. According to Junior, the deadline trade that Reds trade is not looking good and has made them a worser team. Houston is now our new threat, they got Clemans late so it'll be hard to catch up them and their 3 top pitchers again. And of course we still have to worry about the other 7 teams including the Reds. :plain There really is no "serious" threat in the WC. If anything we have the toughest team to face. The Dodgers have won 6 in a row. The Reds are falling apart because now they are lacking in what they used to thrive, offence and when you get rid of felipe and kearns, it shows much more. Their pen is good but when you pitch in Great American Ball Park "to hit Home Runs in," it really doesn't matter. The bullpen basically becomes useless if you don't score runs. To protect a lead you need to get a lead.

Right now, we're playing the best baseball out of everyone. We'll be hard to count out. Don't get caught up in winning an indvidial game, just win the series. Can't do anything about any other team's record except when we play them, so we just need to keep winning and let the WC take care of itself.
August 4, 200620 yr Lots of Baseball to play, they are young and have the best record as we all know yadda yadda just need to keep taking series wins and sweep a few, I too would probably lose it if they won the WC, but for a moment think about a few other Club owners out there whose great nashing of teeth could be heard round the world SHOCK EM AGAIN MARLINS!!!!
August 4, 200620 yr The Marlins are 4G back, BBTN didn't have them on the Wild Card chart but managed to include Houston. Umm we were on the chart along with Milwaukee and Houston tied for 7th place.
August 4, 200620 yr i ment what are the other teams percent of making it DBacks - 35.72% Dodgers - 29.39% Rockies - 15.48% Giants - 10.13% Phillies - 9.67% Braves - 8.3% Brewers - 7.71% Astros - 6.46% Marlins - 4.71% Nats - 0.3%

The Marlins are legitimately the hottest team in baseball right now. And they don't appear to be slowing down anytime soon.

Indeed, anyways whose rankings are that becuase we have more chance of taking the WC than most of the teams listed there.

Rankings (and many people on this board) said you guys were going to suck this year. Rankings mean jack.
August 4, 200620 yr Sheesh... you try to introduce some objective opinion and you're labelled a communist.
August 4, 200620 yr thanks commy... what about the reds, they are not on that list :thumbup Reds - 46.91% BTW, these have all been totals of reaching the playoffs, by winning the division or wild card. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/statistics/ps_oddspec.php

What are the odds on just by wild card? Now I don't think they are bulls***, I thought it was purely wild card but since it has the division, and all those teams above us are well alive in the divisional race, it makes sense.
August 4, 200620 yr Now that page isn't working. With another less advanced method they're using (rounded): http://www.baseballprospectus.com/statistics/ps_oddspec.php Reds 15, Padres 12, DBacks 11, Dodgers 10, Phillies 8, Rockies & Braves 7, Marlins 6, Giants 5, Brewers 3, Astros 2, Nats & Cubs & Pirates
