Olivo or Hoover

Featured Replies

Okay, we all know Olivo has a hard time catching Dontrelle. It seems like whenever Treanor catches Dontrelle he pitches better. So, do you think Joe will use Hoover behind the plate tonight?

Sorry if this is a totally obvious answer :thumbup .

Discuss.

Maybe Willy can catch tonight.

Its not about if olivo is comfortable catching the train its whether train is comfortable pitching to olivo. If train has a mental block when pitching to olivo, give hoover the nod. Either way I'd like to watch hoover play.

Olivo...

I don't get people blaming Olivo for Dontrelle's struggles. It isn't Olivo's fault Dontrelle falls behind hitters and/or leaves pitches right down the middle of the plate. He calls an excellent game for the other 3 pitchers...

Olivo has a hard time catching everyone. He really is kind of awful behind the plate.

That said, I doubt anything changes.

yeah, and as we all know, you are an extremely objective poster when it comes to olivo.

he's done a fine job behind the dish.

Hes improving in terms of blocking the ball. Not only that but how can you say he calls bad games when our pitchers are performing very well. Its very hard to gauge how a catcher calls games behind the plate, but I dont blame him for d trains bad outings. Olivo not only is a pretty decent hitter, hes good enoguh behidn the plate.

Its gotta be Olivo hes had a hot bat for a few days now and Dontrelle needs all the run support he can get.

4 Errors behind the plate in 76 games. .992 fielding percentage.

You have to be kidding me this guy is improving steadily defensively and offensively, and his .292 AVG reflects that.

Olivo was catching the past coupl starts before for Dontrelle with Treanor only now catching Olsen. Olivo starts tonight, but when Olsen starts that would be interesting.

Hard time catching everyone? How can you be so objective and biased about the guy? The guys' improved drastically. And I remember JJ saying that Olivo calling his games has been a big help to him and his succes.

Lighten up a bit.

Olivo it is.

Thats too bad, I was hoping to see pierremvp1 eat a frog :)

Is Hoover even a good player? What are his numbers like and his arm?

Hoover has been a stalwart behind the plate for the Isotopes all season, hitting .281 (75x267) with 32 runs, 20 doubles, a triple, five runs and 34 RBI. He?s also been excellent behind the plate, ranking among PCL leaders by throwing out 22 of 63 would-be base stealers for a percentage of 34.9%. The catcher also played for Albuquerque in 2003, racking up a .270 batting average with 35 runs scored, 22 doubles, two triples, five homers, and 40 RBI.
