August 11, 200619 yr The Marvel Studios Overview Presentation--other than giving a great look at how their films are made and what they have in the works--reveals that Zak Penn (The Incredible Hulk, X-Men: The Last Stand, X2: X-Men United) is writing the screenplay for the big screen adaptation of The Avengers. Marvel describes the property as follows: "The Avengers are Earth's mightiest heroes, formed to fight the foes no single hero could withstand. The Avengers are the most prestigious and powerful super-hero team in the world." Source
August 11, 200619 yr I'd be interested to see who the team is, as some of the licenses might conflict with studiot properties. The classic Avengers team consists of: Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, the Wasp, Hawkeye, Giant Man or Ant Man, Vision or Quiksilver and Scarlet Witch and MAYBE the Hulk. My guess is they'd eliminate Hulk, Iron Man, maybe Thor and Cap from the equation (I'd hope not, since Cap is generally the leader).

DC creative has stated they only want one to two DC movies coming out in a year so that they can be picky about directors and actors and scripts and focus on putting out a more quality product. I believe in one of their press releases they said they didn't want to release any "Daredevil's" in the movie theatres to leave their fans disappointed. As for Green Lantern... That's a tough one. Number one, it's a REALLY tough project to do, monetarily. It's be 90% CGI and that ain't cheap. Number two, people don't generally GET Green Lantern. I'm talking most writers and Hollywood types. A Green Lantern was in the works at one time and it was rumored to be a comedy and they were going after Jack Black. That's not the direction it needs to go. And some comic writers are completely clueless when it comes to Green Lantern, one of the original Lantern's (Hal Jordan) was killed off and the title became a joke until Judd Winnick and later Geoff Johns (who would resurrect Hal Jordan) brought the character back from the brink of mediocrity. If they did Green Lantern it'd take a LOT of work and a lot of money. I could see it happening, but DC's already got the next three or four years planned out already. That being said, Marvel is willing to sell the rights to any and all characters, regardless of whether or not the project is going to be good. They just sell the name and are pretty much done with it. It worked with the X-Men, Spider-Man and KIND of on the Fantastic Four, but for everyone of those you have a Blad 2 and 3, a Daredevil, Elektra and Hulk movies. That Daredevil movie still pisses me off. One of the most storied and best characters and they give the rights to have a B-movie made about the character who is noted as having the best storylines.

Sexy housewife could be desperate for a role in Marvel movie. by Brian Linder September 15, 2008 - It's not official, but there are signs that point to Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria being up for a role in the upcoming Avengers movie. It all started when this celeb gossip site posted recently-snapped pictures of Longoria leaving the Marvel offices clutching (she's practically holding them up for the camera) a stack of what are clearly Avengers comics. So, who would she play? Comics2Film and the LA Times Blog are both speculating that Longoria is up for the role of the winsome Wasp -- not too hard to connect those dots as the character has been a standout member of the superhero team since the beginning. Janet van Dyne/Wasp is a mutant who can deliver a deadly sting through her hands, and has the capability to shrink her body to insect-size. She flies with a set of retractable wings. In the comics, Janet has been married to volatile scientist Hank Pym (Ant-Man/Giant-Man), and has been close with Captain America. The Wasp, it's also interesting to note, is one of Marvel's most diva-ish female characters, with her sense of entitlement and penchant for shopping. Point being that it's not that big of a stretch from characters Longoria has played in the past -- except for the superpowers. While we're not spending our free time tracking celebrity hairstyles, we have noted that the lovely Longoria has been sporting a significantly shorter hairdo of late -- a cut perfectly fitting for that Wasp wardrobe fitting or screen test. Finally, let's not forget that Edgar Wright is making the Ant-Man movie, so she could presumably appear in that as well as Avengers.
