August 14, 200620 yr At this moment the Mets should be worried thereis no way they can match up with the Dodgers in a short series. The Dodgers have so much depth in their position players. Lowe, Penny, Madduxand Billingley could easily shut them down in a short series...Sorry Mets Fan
August 14, 200620 yr Maybe. The Dodgers are hot right now, but I want to see them sustain sucess over a month- month and a half like the Mets have done. The N.L. is so wide open it wouldn't shock me if any team in the race won the pennant.
August 14, 200620 yr The Mets are whipping teams and we are playing with bench players as starters. We are starting DiFelice(Scrub), Chavez(Valueable Bench Player), Tucker(Scrub), LeDee(scrub), Milledge(Looks Overmatched at times).
August 14, 200620 yr They are hot right now, there's no doubting that. But it's not a given that they would hands down beat the Mets, who are only pacing themselves until the playoffs.
August 14, 200620 yr For pitching, I would take the Dodgers. As far as hitting goes, that Mets lineup is pretty nasty.
August 14, 200620 yr Mets lineup is lethal, and that is something that should scare any team. When they are on, they are on...
August 14, 200620 yr I have a hard time seeing the Mets win a 7 game series against the Dodgers, but the Mets should be able to handle them in 5 as they can throw Pedro twice in a 5 gamer, yet in a 7 gamer Maddux, Penny and Lowe should keep the Dodgers quite comfortable.
August 14, 200620 yr You only really need three starters in a 5 game series ... Pedro, Glavine, and Maine are all pitching very well ... finally. Our line-up is much better, our bench is deeper, and our pen is the best in NL. I think it would be close.
August 14, 200620 yr Author Dodgers Mets Advantage c Russ Martin Paul Lo Duca -Mets slightly 1st Nomar Garciaparra Carlos Delgado - Even 2nd Julio Lugo Jose Valentin -Dodgers Ss Rafael Fucal Jose Reyes -Dodgers 3rd Wilson Betimit David Wright -Mets Lf Andre Ethier Ricky Ledee - Dodgers Cf Kenny Lofton Carlos Beltran - Mets Rf JD Drew Endy Chaves -Even Dodgers have Jeff Kent who plays 2nd and first Dodgers have better roster depth and better talent in the minors if the Mets are to beat them it will have to be on pitching and Lowe Penny and Maddux are very tough
August 14, 200620 yr Reyes is better than Furcal. Lugo and Valentin is a draw IMO. no way. I do agree that reyes is better than furcal. I don't think JD Drew/ Endy Chavez is a draw , i'd say advantage dodgers.

I don't think JD Drew/ Endy Chavez is a draw , i'd say advantage dodgers. Furcal is a better hitter by far on the field with the glove Reyes has a bit of an advantage but with the bat Reyes is so far behind that you have to say that Furcal is the better overall; At 2nd Kent is better than Valentin, so I would say that with Lugo and Kent The Dodgers have the advantage. I like Drew but this year Chavez has played very well so I will call it even

I like Drew but this year Chavez has played very well so I will call it even Furcal is not much better with the bat -- Reyes leads him in nearly every batting category this season. Jose also has nearly twice the stolen bases and is right there with him in field. Statistically, Lugo is not much better -- and Kent can't field the position anymore. I would give Drew the edge over Chavez though.
August 14, 200620 yr Are we seriously comparing Drew to Chavez.. thats kind of funny. Granted he's having a down year but come on. The guy is still a Bobby Abreu/Brian Giles type player. It's about time the Dodgers are tearing it up.. with Penny, Maddux, Lowe and Billingsly, I'll give them the edge over the Mets in a series, if they make the playoffs. Not a knock on the mets, I just think the Dodgers have a good team. Also looks like Tomko's move to the pen has paid off for the Dodgers.
August 14, 200620 yr C'mon it's pointless to do a position by position comparison of players as to edge who would have an edge. Rotation? Sure, but for positions it's not very useful. This isn't basketball.

This isn't basketball. Haha I was thinking the same thing. That was something I did in the 97 playoffs. When I was 9. It was fun though.

I agree baseball is not broken down that way usually but if a statement is made that the Mets are much better it is a way to review the arguments...I strongly would disagree with that premise...If any the Dodger have become the better team right now
August 15, 200620 yr well if I could make a lineup out of the two teams this would be it: SS Reyes CF Beltran 3B Wright 1B Nomar C Lo Duca RF Drew LF Ethier (sp?) 2B Lugo P Martinez Are we seriously comparing Drew to Chavez.. thats kind of funny. Granted he's having a down year but come on. The guy is still a Bobby Abreu/Brian Giles type player. thank you. :thumbup . Endy Chavez is no comparison to Drew.

Comparing someone's 1B to another team's 1B when one team could have that as their best player and the other that could be the worst player in the line-up isn't really beneficial. If you compared lineups it'd be a tad bit more pertinent and useful.
August 15, 200620 yr Well, after last night (and seeing Pedro hurt again) the Dodgers are now easily the scariest NL team no one wants to play in October. Lowe was sort of the wild-card for the Dodgers, and Pedro is basically the only hope for the Mets, and both rotations seem to be going in drastically different directions. 14 game lead be damned, these are not the same Mets of April, May and June.
