Another Bullpen flameout

Featured Replies

Blah blah....the umpires didn't give up a three run homer to Delgado. If the Fish were to just worry about the things they can control they would have won the game regardless of the umpire. Our bullpen is probably the worst in the majors.

The Umpires made it a 3R HR rather than a 2R HR.

What is Girardi supposed to do with the bullpen? Every single guy in there is unreliable. Tankersly is supposed to be our best guy out there and couldn't get the job done. Period....he is our best reliever. If he can't get the job done, you're screwed regardless because the other guys are just plain HORRIBLE.

he was put in a position to fail

Put in a position to fail? The entire reason Tankersly was out there is because the other guys are no better than Tankersly at half strength. If I were Girardi, I wouldn't trust anyone else in the bullpen either, after witnessing debacle after debacle. He HAS NO options. The bullpen is a GAPING hole in this team and the main thing going against it. The bullpen is the fault of the front office, not Girardi. Garbage in, garbage out.

Anyone think that the front office should have made a better effort to strengthen the bullpen before one or both of the trade deadlines?

thanks joe :(

It's Joe Girardi's fault the FO didn't acquire some much needed bullpen help, it's his fault we stopped scoring runs after we had the lead, it's his fault the team struck out 11 times... it's all his fault.

I would say we saw another Joe Girardi flameout

Really?

Thats funny because I never saw Girardi take the mound last night.

What does Girardi's fastball top out at?

The bullpen blew this game. Joe made some wrong decisions but the pen should have came through and pitched good. End of Story.

thanks joe :(

Agreed, you can't make chicken salad with chicken sh*t.

ive never criticized one of our managers before... but that was the worst managerial job ive ever seen. I could see every one of his mistakes before they happened, and im a 17 year old kid.

Tank for 2?

Your coments are unbelievably stupid. But I guess I said unwise things when I was 17, so I'll give it a pass.

I would recommend, however, that you talk less, read more, and watch more carefully before you make any more comments.

thanks joe :(

And it is called "holes" that happen with a low payroll. CF and bullpen not to mention losses of Carlos Martinez and Kensing. Without making any moves to bolster the weaknesses, this is what we have, regardless of the great success. The success is great, but now that we are in position, you just don't say, "hey, be happy", you grab the opportunity. Management decided not to grab anything but the revenue sharing money and you know what else-but keep the board clean.

Time Wrecker, keep voicing your opinion-learn now not to be intimidated to keep quiet. Right or wrong, your point is a valid opinion and if you disagree with anyone, including those on this board, voice your opinion without resorting to the name calling and insults that unfortunately a few on this board resort to. Let them stay in the gutter with their own.

thanks joe :(

Correct. There is no excuse for Loria, who knew by the trade deadline that he might have something special here, to hold on to his pennies and refuse to get us even a little bulpen help.

That we are still in this thing is a tribute to the job Girardi and his staff have done. As I have mentioned, the "in game management" decisions are the smallest part of the job, and given equal information, there is little practical difference between managers in those decisions. Some bunt and hit and run more than others. A few still are in love with the stolen base more than they should be. But in the end, they all do it pretty much the same, and it doesn't make much difference except for giving us something to complain about.

I questioned a few things Girardi did last night, but I realize, unike some on this board, that I don't have all the information he does, so he may have been right. For instance, we dont know what the FO is ordering him to do as far as playing certain guys, and avoiding others, becuase of their planning regarding offseason moves. We don't know what the pitching coach told him about Tank's readiness or the conditon of others in the bullpen. We don't know why he keeps Amezaga in, as well as Olivo, despite their lack of offense. Is he not confident in Treanor's defense. Does Johnson prefer Olivo? Did whomever might be considered for CF tweak his ankle during warmups?

Given his knowledge and credentials, however, I would bet that if we did have all the facts Girardi does, we would have made similar decisions.
