this may be the reason why Loria won't be looking to spent much in the off-season. we shall see.

this is a double-edged sword

I have mixed opinions about Hank. Sometimes he comes with some real accurate info and sometimes I feel he just likes to stir the pot a bit. Regardless it's def a step in the right direction if true.

I agree. He definitely has good sources but at times has been totally off in past. We know how he feels about Loria.

I'm in the "I'll believe it when I see it" camp but MLB stepping in as they have is definitely a positive.

True, but then again, what is preferable -- Loria not spending for the next few years or Loria not spending forever.

I just hope MLB means business and get this done.

But Loria can run this franchise into the ground before is all set and done, and cash in revenue sharing for the next 2 - 3 years

Seems like we have a golden opportunity with a young team, and we should be able to compete and win.

this afternoon, that MLB is negotiating the stadium deal, without Loria & Samson, has told them also that once the stadium deal is done, they will be given an ultimatum to take on a partner that will own 51% or they can sell the whole team to MLB to sell to a "moneyman" owner.

Seems like MLB is not happy with the way Loria & the midget have been running the stadium negotioations.

This would make sense as to why Loria is refusing now to sell the team, as he knows he's gonna be forced out in a few years, and is trying to keep payroll low so he can make as much as he can now, before his chances at big profits fizzle as he is forced to sell the team when the new stadium is in place.

I don't think this is plausible. Not that I doubt that Loria is hated in the MLB executive suite, but I don't see how they can pull it off.

How can they give him an ultimatum? They have no power to take any action if he refuses to sell. What would they do? I think Hank's source has confused the desire to get rid of Loria and Samson (which some say MLB has wanted to do since the Montreal days) with the ability to do so (which they didn't have then and don't have now).

Knowing how they work, it is more likely that MLB and Loria are trying to pull a good cop/bad cop negotiation on the public officials to break an impasse. I'll be contacting mine to make sure they don't fall for it.

Hank was, and perhaps still is Joe Arriola's main media mouthpiece.

It's not surprising this would come out today, especially not from Hank. Actually I think it's a silly notion, the litigation would go on for so many years Selig wouldn't live long enough to see a new owner. Besides nothing DuPuy or Selig have said indicates their displeasure here other than their frustration with corrupt banana republic politicos and the general comment that I think is shared by everyone, that the status quo is unacceptable.

The next CBA will address some of the issues with the game but as long as the Yankees can use $$$ that should be going to the best interests of baseball for their own purposes, this problem is miniscule in comparison.

Hank Goldberg doesnt give 2 sh*ts about professional baseball in South Florida so take his statements for what they are worth.

Everything Hank said i have been here telling you guys for months. The one exception is that they will force him to sell. My source has maintained that they were going to be tough with him and force him to accept the downtown site but was skeptical on how they would do it. i do not know if they have the balls or ability to force him out.

Hank does have some friends in the MLB front office. If you recall at the World Series in 1993 he was sitting front row at the batters box the game bonilla hit the Home Run. I am fairly certain he obtained those from MLB. You know he did not pay for them.

I hope they run these assclowns out of town.

I know its all mere speculation, but I certainly hope MLB has finally given up on this ownership.

Yeah, I could be wrong but I just don't see them forcing him out either. Just get this ballpark thing done!

Technically speaking I think you are correct that they can't "force" Loria to sell. I suppose they could alter the financial ratio requirements in such a way that it forces Loria to take on new ownership, but who knows who else would get KO'ed in the process. And I suppose there are other ways they could make his tenure miserable as well.

But it's no secret that MLB is not thrilled with Loria as a majority owner... they never have been. Loria will get out sooner or later, but only if the price is right. And what better way to drive the price up than to insist that you will not sell.

That's the gist of it. Not necessarily force Loria to sell, but force his hand

Remember, the new stadium means a big reduction in the revenue sharing total the team receives. Plus a change in the economic landscape may force Loria to either unearth hidden coffers of cash or get while the getting is good.

I forgot to mention - don't forget to add in the hush money so that Loria doesn't end up publishing "Lords of the Realm" Volume 2 or doing anything else that could threaten the anti-trust status of MLB. With the Marlins/Expos/Red Sox/Nationals mess, who knows what that guy really knows about the inner workings of MLB.

Probably not much more than the 29 other owners.

Cant Selig use his "best interest in baseball" clause to get rid of an owner?

Shades of Commissioner Landis, Ford Frick, Bowie Kuhn. Loria can't keep playing the bag lady role, I know "its his business and he can run it into the ground if he wants". But MLB is a loose consolidated enterprise, and while each team is its own business, baseball wants to see success in S. Florida. That means a stadium, proper marketing and a consistent product-thereby finding out once and for all if this market will support baseball without all the circus side shows. MLB wants ownership with an interest in putting money back into the business for its long term success.

Loria, while running the business in his way,as is his right, is only thinking short term for his pocket. I hope what Hank says is true. We all benefit. Loria will make out fine, get his money and short term windfall, go home and attend art shows, and we , the fans, who happily spend ownerships money, will care only about the on field product. I expect to be living here all my life, I doubt Loria will, and I want to enjoy baseball for a long time and for future generations.

When the stadium deal is signed, doesnt the value of the franchise skyrocket to about 3-4 times what it currently is anyways?

It would make a logical time for loria to sell his part of the investment. He put in like 50 million ends up with 400 million, works for me.

Hank obviously is more of a football and basketball fan than baseball but out of the local media he's the only one with any original thoughts and insight into the stadium situation and just because he hates Loria and Samson doesn't mean he hates baseball.

well the choice is Lebetard whom most likely asks Sampson if he wants one ply or two ply or Hank whom hates the marlins ownership.

Oh yeah, because that's what Loria's been doing since 2002...Paying to bring in Pudge & Delgado, trading away an overpaid underperforming 2005 team for an overperforming underpaid 2006 team that actually made the notion of a "rebuilding season" not look bad at all...because the Marlins were on par with the frickin Yankees before that. Seriously, where was this team when Loria bought it? And where has it been since?
