Now in my book I don't see how we can fit Kevin Millar in with our plans. But my dad claims he heard on a hispanic morning (107.5) radio show that the former Marlins clubhouse clown and player is looking to return to south florida where it is no secret to anyone that he enjoyed his stay when he split between I believe LF and 1st base. Now this astounds me, did any of you hear anything about this? Any truth to this rumor, are the Marlins really considering a return at the right price?

I haven't heard that anywhere, but he could fill the Wes Helms role if Wes heads elsewhere.

Funny... I was under the impression that his split from Florida was acrimonious.

Kevin Millar, no thank you. And there's so many reasons why. But I'll take the high road and suggest anyone interested look at his stats vs lefties (as the only quasi-legitimate contribution he could make is as a platoon player at first) and for the same money it would cost to re-sign Helms, it's not even close which guy you'd rather have.

Millar had no idea he'd have as long a major league career as he has and opted for the big payday in Japan. As a scab he has to pay union dues but he's not entitled to any MLBPA benefits nor retirement pension so Japan was a way to build what he thought would be a nest egg for his family.

Thanks...I knew there were a few guys who at least had short MLB careers after being a replacement player but was never aware that Millar was one of them. This explains his absence in video games.

Actually Millar was in the Marlins organization in 1994, in A ball. Replacement players weren't used until spring 1995 so I don't think Millar was in an independant league at that time and I didn't know Jordan ever was (I thought he played in the White Sox organization). I vaguely remember some replacement players, marginal prospects like Millar at the time, saying that they were coerced into crossing the picket line by being subtly threatened with release if they didn't play.

 

Even though he can't join the union, Millar does get benefits such as pension and representation in disputes with management. He can't share in any merchandising money. Cory Lidle was also a replacement player and his pension is going to his widow.

I would love to have Millar if Helms doesn't return, simply to help lead this ballclub in the dugout. This is a world series champion with tons of experience, and a perfect personality to match this young club.

Helms did so much for us past season, key contributon and is a priority to resign.

I'll pass. I want helms back, hopefully he won't cost us too much.

I want Helms back, but I am not as down on Millar as everyone here seems to be.

Millar was a good clubhouse guy when the Red Sox won the World Series, but when they weren't winning, he wasn't a good clubhouse guy.

We sold him to Japan before inquiring about his trade value here and then Boston blocked his move. I doubt he has fond memories of Loria's treatment of him, and I can't see why he'd want to come back here when other teams have been mentioned as suitors (Yankees, Angels) and they have bigger budgets and a clearer shot at winning.

After I posted I noticed that yes he can replace Wes Helms, but it'd be nice to keep Helms and still Sign Kevin Millar, especially if we involve Mike Jacobs in any trade, we can place Wes helms at first with Millar as a backup left fielder and 1st basemen. It'd be nice to see him with his nasty helmet with the fish again. Me and my dad called him nasty man, it was our little household name, I am a fan of his play, but with someone's mention of the Angels and Yankees being suitors maybe his price tag may rocket out of our budgets, either way, what happens happens, it won't break my heart or anything.

The Angels are interested in signing big name, big impact talent only. Millar isn't even on their radar screen.
