November 23, 200619 yr maybe a hybrid of the two sites works. Put the stadium on the new site and use some of the land MLB has under contract for parking structures the marlins could own. This would solve Marlins2003's concern about parking. This still does not solve the issue with the roof. The new site is smaller than the old site and does not have room for a roof. On the flip side, with no retractible roof the money is in place. The money for the roof and needed a/c's is what creates the funding issues. I still think that a stadium where the fans are covered in their seats and from mass transit could work. It is not ideal.

November 23, 200619 yr Relying on fans using public transportation is the wrong attitude for South Florida. Not going to work. seriously. public transportation is very limited and no one uses it in south florida. everyone has and uses a car.
November 23, 200619 yr People will still be using their cars - just parking them at metro stations instead. In the long run, it may not save folks that much in parking - but it would save the stadium's immediate surroundings a lot of the traffic issues to be expected. The failure of the Metrorail is that it goes almost nowhere. But still, if you put a stadium downtown, you can expect people from Miami Lakes to park at the Hialeah Metro Rail station with people from Cutler Ridge taking the train from Dadeland station in Kendall. And it would be a lot better than having everyone park at a stadium downtown. Hell, I don't know anyone who likes to take their car and park downtown if they don't think they have to.
November 23, 200619 yr I want a stadium, and that is more important that its precise location, but that location is going to be hell to get to on weeknights and much of the parking is in use until 7 or so. So in other words there is no parking during the week? Relying on fans using public transportation is the wrong attitude for South Florida. Not going to work. Some of these statements are outrageous. You could fill multiple ballparks with the amount of parking available in that area after 5pm. This is the 'work' district of downtown we're talking about here. After regular business hours, it's easily the most underutilized display of infrastructure in all of South Florida. The only reason anyone would possibly choose to park at a metrorail station and take the train would be simple personal preference; it would have little to do with the supply of parking available. And I could re-dissect the "but that location is going to be hell to get to on weeknights" argument, but the point is so flimsy considering the alternative proposed sites that I'm not even going to bother.
November 23, 200619 yr I'd imagine that if they go for this there will be a late tri-rail run north...at least I hope so.
November 23, 200619 yr DOWNTOWN WOULD BE CRAZZZY..you`d have to leave broward or in my case brevard 4 hours early to get through the 5:00 traffic during the week..think about it..7:05 tues night game..get off work,if anyone can, at say 3:30-4:00 and probably just make it to the game???? f that..put it right off the turnpike somewhere..where i don`t know, but downtown, they`ll lose fans.....
November 24, 200619 yr I'd imagine that if they go for this there will be a late tri-rail run north...at least I hope so. For Sure!
November 24, 200619 yr Tri-Rail is considering a Downtown service, but that would be a time's away..possibly 2010 before it begins service regularly. Would take planning to tailor it to add additional park and ride possibilities including near DS at the Golden Glades Lot/Station.

Traffic at 5pm northbound on I-95 between the Golden Glade and downtown Miami is a nightmare. I don't think you would see too much traffic traveling south at that time.

Excuse me, but no matter where a stadium is built, for you traffic is always going to be a problem! Have you tried to drive through northern and central Palm Beach County during weekday rush hour? And after you finally survive that at around Hypoluxo Road, you'll just eventually hit the nightmare of traffic through Broward from Hillsboro to I-595. And if you go on the Turnpike, central PBC is no picnic, and then Broward just gets clogged up. Trust me, by the time you hit southbound I-95 just after the Golden Glades, traffic is a breeze in that part of town. It's Broward that will kill you! Tri-Rail is considering a Downtown service, but that would be a time's away..possibly 2010 before it begins service regularly. Would take planning to tailor it to add additional park and ride possibilities including near DS at the Golden Glades Lot/Station. Highly unlikely that 2010 is even a realistic probability! The price tag that FEC is looking for to use their lines is in excess of $4 BILLION!!!! I got that figure right from the mouth of the SFRTA chair about three years ago!
November 25, 200619 yr I want a stadium, and that is more important that its precise location, but that location is going to be hell to get to on weeknights and much of the parking is in use until 7 or so. Most of the downtown crowd leaves between 4:30 - 5:30pm.

Would take planning to tailor it to add additional park and ride possibilities including near DS at the Golden Glades Lot/Station. The stadium wouldn't be ready in 2010 if they broke ground tomorrow. Kinda besides the point I suppose. Whatever it takes to give the Marlins a stadium. Roof preferred.
November 26, 200619 yr anywhere from key largo up to west palm beach works for me at this point. Just get it done. That is what matters to me.

November 28, 200619 yr Anywhere south of where it currently is now, would end our trips to games. It is a 3 hour trip to the game now for us, from Melbourne. Parking is a very important issue and a downtown stadium, that location would create a bad parking problem. We used to have going to hockey games, at the Miami Arena, that was a nightmare.
November 28, 200619 yr You get from Melbourne to Miami-Dade County in 3 hours! FHP be darned or not eh?
November 28, 200619 yr You get from Melbourne to Miami-Dade County in 3 hours! FHP be darned or not eh? That isn't all that bad. I95 north of PBC is a breeze. Speed limit is at 70 and not many go that. 80 is a more comfortable speed just to keep up with the flow. Go south to Jupiter then cross over to the turnpike and I could see doing it in about 3 hours time. For week end games. Helicopter would be the only way for games during the week. LOL
November 28, 200619 yr You get from Melbourne to Miami-Dade County in 3 hours! FHP be darned or not eh? From here it is a straight shot down I-95 to Jupiter and then cross over to the Turnpike and down into the stadium. The extra distance to downtown, fighting downtown traffic and looking for a parking space, then hoping your car will still be there when you return, would not be worth the aggravation after a 3 hour drive. From here it would be easier to spend the 3 hours and go to Tampa, park at the stadium and sit in 72 degrees and watch the game. But of course I would rather see the Marlins, than the Devil Rays.
November 28, 200619 yr i only thing i worry about downtown site is parking because when i want to heat game traffic was bad to get out of downtown

I salute you for that one dude :thumbup
November 28, 200619 yr I've driven around this site the last three times I'm been to the county and for the life of me, unless they're planning using at least one more of the adjacent lots and close off another north/south street, I don;t see how they could fit the footprint for a stadium in there, with or without a roof. I'm not saying it's not possible, but very hard to visualize.
