Anyone that goes to FIU

Featured Replies

If you haven't been there already, beware - more student spots are being taken away as metered, admin, and faculty parking. Anyone who used to park on the first floor of the blue garage will have to look elsewhere.

The student population continues to go up but we have less and less parking by where the classes actually are and no transit system to get people from the Panther Garage (which is the Miami street equivalent of 10+ blocks away from the central class area around the Library) to GC and the surrounding areas. I don't understand why MyDickey needs all these admin spots.

It took me an hour to find a parking spot this morning. And once I actually found someone to follow to get a space, some girl tried to get my spot, but I didn't let her do it. It's a mess.

admin and faculty cost a hell of a lot more than student decals....

At FIU?

You know there is always parking...not close to where classes are, but still, if you are waiting an hour to park right by GC consider parking by the football stadium and walking 10 minutes.

Well yes, this is true. And that is also the parking authority's excuse for having the spots close to classes be for meters rather than for students. But this argument doesn't hold water when students are being told to park in the arena for a class in GC.

Thanks. I am a bit of a noob when it comes to everyday life for a FIU student. :p

It beats driving half an hour and waiting an hour for parking.

Yeah, I'd say behind the football stadium is the best. It's where I park when the housing lots are full. Not too far.

Yeah it started in the fall semester.

My first year I used to park all the time on the first floor of blue, in fact I parked in the same spot everyday it was literally the first spot that wasnt faculty, now all that is faculty. It's getting ridiculous they need to slow down the enrollment. Although I had no problem parking today but I did get to school around 8:45 AM.

I feel your pain. FSU finally opened the new Call Street Garage so my Woodward Avenue Garage is less stressed. Mind you I will only use a garage to park for the morning before the first classes. For the rest of the day classes I park at the Stadium and take the bus to the right place. For my lab on Monday nights I can park right outside the Love Building because the lab is after 4:30 pm and the faculty red spots open to us student white permit holders.

*does happy dance*

I had an 11:00 am class in the Ryder Business building. I figured I needed to get to FIU at atleast 10:00 am to find parking. Lo and behold I pull up at 10:00 am and I find a great spot and parked. I parked in the parking lot next to the Education building and the new Graduate Business building. I parked in a parallel parking spot along the side of the lot. Which is surprising cause that lot is always full and very hard to park in. The only parking garage that ever has plenty of parking is the garage next to the Arena/Law School/Gym.

Today was the first time in 4 semesters that I did not complain about parking the first day of class.

I'm not allowed to park on campus here :( ...live about 1/2 mile away though so its not a big deal.

But ya that sucks that they are taking more away...are they planning on creating more spaces somewhere (new lot/parking garage) or they just keep taking more and more away?

Only if they can buy Tamiami Park. I know they are taking away the big housing parking lot next to the stadium to build more dorms.

The staff have to purchase parking decals as well. My hubby works on campus and he pays 1/2 the amount of administrators for the privilege of parking where he works.

So now that I have the whole parking situation all figured out and I know what to do next time... How was everyone's day?

Mine was pretty good. I have a kick ass professor. I am taking ENG2012 with Bentley-Baker. It seems like it will be a fun class. I also attended my very first meeting of Panther Rage today. I am so excited! Being a FIU student was one of my main goals for a long time. And now that I finally got there was kind of surreal to me when I was walking around GC as a FIU student.

I have Natural Disasters, which is going to be an awesome class. Except it's a 3000 level class, so it's gonna be tough. Then my intro to creative writing class seems like it'll be pretty cool. Tomorrow I have Finite Math, Ecology of South Florida, and the lab. Then I'll be working for 8 hours after that.

Natural Disasters sounds like a fun course. Let me know how that turns out. I might want to take it. I have Finite and ENC 1102 tomorrow.

Does anyone know the location of the Rafael Diaz-Balart Law building? I have a class there tomorrow.

I'm almost positive that the Rafael Diaz-Balart law building is the brand new one right next to the gym. That's the building I'm going to for my class in RDB. It's not on my map, but I'm almost sure thats it.

I have finite there at 8 am. You?

Ecology of South Florida, and the lab.

Who is teaching that these days? And is the lab still on every other Saturday?
