Posted January 16, 200718 yr TAMPA, Fla. ? (AP) ? Tampa Bay Devil Rays prospect Elijah Dukes was arrested and charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession after a traffic stop, police said Tuesday. Dukes, 22, who is from Tampa and lives in nearby Brandon, was pulled over in his 2006 Dodge Charger just after 6 p.m. Monday because of a loud music violation, Tampa police said in a release. The officer smelled marijuana, and a search of the car by a police dog yielded less than 2 grams of marijuana in the center console, police said. The passenger, Willie Evans, 23, also was arrested. Both men were released on the promise that they appear in court later. The 6-foot-2, 225-pound Dukes is listed on the Devil Rays' 40-man roster. A third-round draft pick in 2002, the switch-hitting outfielder has a history of problems on and off the field and was suspended at Durham last year. He also made headlines last season for publicly criticizing the organization and the conditions at Durham. The Devil Rays did not immediately comment, but a spokesman said the team will release a statement later. A working number for Dukes could not be located Tuesday.
January 16, 200718 yr his value just took another hit. He is projected to about an 800 OPS CF. I would take that in a heartbeat. Specially if we can get it cheaply now.
January 16, 200718 yr This guy can't stay out of trouble for his life, such a shame because he's so damn talented.
January 16, 200718 yr I think we should trade for him. He can help calm Scott Olsen down. :hat :hat :hat
January 16, 200718 yr Less than 2 grams of weed huh? The guy obviously has a problem Yeah I dont really see this as a big deal either
January 17, 200718 yr Hey he is nothing but an angel compared to our boy. Our boy is the biggest sociopath in baseball... maybe ever!

January 17, 200718 yr obviously he is a user, but at the same time if its some randomn high schooler who gets caught with less than 20$ worth of marijuana you dont read about in the paper. Slap on the wrist with any good lawyer
January 18, 200718 yr Its a slap in the rist period. Less than 2 grams. I probably have more than two grams scattered around the floor of my car. Ive known alot of high school players from Wellington High that got drafted, all smoked weed. Alot of athletes I know that have gone palces smoke weed.

No big deal IMO. If anybody seriously thinks marijuana is a gateway drug contact me and i'll send you over the last paper I wrote on the topic, it's pretty convincing.

I'm not sure how florida enforces its laws regarding it
January 18, 200718 yr If i ever do buy pot they sell it in half eights, 1.7 grams, probably the same amount or less than dukes, and the cops have just told me to toss. Ive been caught three times and never arrested.
January 19, 200718 yr IF ONLY HE FIGURES IT OUT Rival clubs keep trying to trade for Devil Rays outfielder Elijah Dukes even after his latest off-field incident, an arrest for marijuana possession. Dukes, 22, possesses an "incredibly impressive tools package" in the opinion of one executive, "blinding talent" in the opinion of another. A scout compares Dukes' bat speed to Gary Sheffield's - the highest of praise for a hitter. Alas, Dukes' profile also includes six arrests and several team-imposed suspensions. The Rays understand that he would yield less in a trade than his talent would dictate. But evidently, they would prefer to keep gambling on him than accept an unsatisfactory return. If Dukes ever gets his act together - a longshot at this point, to be sure - the Rays might hit the jackpot. Assuming, of course, that Dukes can avoid further problems while adapting to a major-league lifestyle. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/6384340 I wonder what teams?
