March 10, 200718 yr It seem impossible but with the lost of Bowaski and Tankersley temporary gone (not to mention some offseason trades that needs to be question), we actually have a worse bullpen then last year (if that even possible). :confused  The real question is with grammar and spelling like that will you be able to wedge in a Marlins' game or two this summer between your remedial FCAT tutoring? Some people forget our pen was populated with guys like Wellmeyer, Resop, Herges and German when we opened the season in 2006. In fact, with a little luck (and some good health) over the next couple of weeks we'll open the season with a much better relief corps than we did last season. Gregg, Lindstrom, Pinto and Owens appear as of this writing to be a marked improvement over where we were a year ago. Are they Cordero, Rivera, Gordon and Hoffman? Hell no. But they are a step in the right direction. And as much as we worrry about Josh Johnson's status for 2007, last year's version was Scott Olsen who was held out, not starting a game until mid-way through April. Our starting rotation the first two weeks of the month was Willis, Mitre, Vargas and Moehler.  Somehow I think even with Johnson's absence we'll be putting a better starting rotation on the field come April.

March 11, 200718 yr I think that if the team can't come up with a solid closer the bullpen will be worse, but a bullpen of Gregg, Lindstrom, Owens, Tankersley, Petit and Pinto will be an upgrade over Resop, Messenger, Herges and Vargas.

March 11, 200718 yr Part of the reason why the bullpen did so bad last year and likely part of the reason why the bullpen will do badly this year is that we're testing players out. It took Pinto some time to turn it around. It will take similar new relievers to find their place. But you can't questiopn the talent we have. It's whether the squares can fit into circles.
March 11, 200718 yr optimism aside, our bullpen is GARBAGE. I'll wait till July to make that kind of judgment. Everyone else should, too.
March 11, 200718 yr I'm not necessarily being optimistic when I suggest that barring anymore injuries and Tankersley not on the DL we'll open the season with a better bullpen than last. Where we are in July remains to be seen. Just as an aside, it looks like Brian Wilson is about to kick Armando Benitez to the curb. It's a shame so many injuries have left us with little to offer in any trade.
