April 24, 200719 yr Guys, we need to vote Hanley for the All-Star team, in droves. You know all the D S'ing of Jose Reyes will get him votes, we need to get together and help Hanley get the votes. Avg-HR-RBI-SB-2B-E Jose Reyes 351-2-16-12-4-1 Hanley R. 371-3-6-6-4-3
April 24, 200719 yr In a better lineup like the Mets, Hanley could produce as many rbi. However, I heardthe other day thatReyes already has 5 3B. Damn!
April 24, 200719 yr he wil get voted by the players. No way he gets in on the fan VOTE. Reyes has a lock on that position no MATTER what Hanley does.
April 24, 200719 yr I'll vote for him, but of course if he gets in, it will be from the player vote. Same with Cabrera. Reyes will win at shortstop in the fan vote and Wright or Rolen will win for 3rd.
April 24, 200719 yr So far I voted about 30 times for Hanley, Uggla, Cabrara, De Aza, Willingham, Olivo and Hermida.

And 99.999% of the fans out there aren't fair in their voting to begin with. Fan All Star voting is one of the biggest jokes, IMO

No offense intended. This game is "for the fans" and they want to see their fav players in it. Like it or not, as Marlins fans we are hugely out numbered. Even the players the managers choose aren't neccesarily the best that year. I rarely watch the game anyways. I like some of the festivities before the game because of the entertainment value but that's about it. It's not like you are going to see the equivalent of Pete Rose barreling into the catcher to score or something. I would just as soon mow the lawn or sort out my sock drawer. Now if it were played here that would be a different story. Close the shop down for a couple days and be at the party!!!
April 24, 200719 yr And just to incur the wrath of almost everyone here I won't be voting for Hanley regardless of the offensive superstar he's becoming, that is not until he can play at least an average shortstop position. I was trying to think of the last time I saw him sprawled on the ground going to his right or making the kind of plays we see every night from whoever the opposing shortstop is and all I see is Hanley's clean and pressed white uni at the end of the game unless that is, he attempted a steal. He'll make a great outfielder one of these days.

IMO All Stars should be the best all around player at his position. Neither one comes close. Guess that will tick more people off than 2003's post.
April 24, 200719 yr I guess you are in the .001% :thumbup Believe me I know that. It is just so painful watching him play the position.
April 24, 200719 yr Hanley is actually average defensively this year so far, and has actually been better than Seabass was at the same point and time with the glove. Considering Hanley is all of 23 years of age, is already better than our boy Alex Gonzalez was at a relative age, and he has all the tools to become a very good SS...give him some time.
April 24, 200719 yr I guess you are in the .001% :thumbup Believe me I know that. It is just so painful watching him play the position. my comment was related to this "And 99.999% of the fans out there aren't fair in their voting to begin with."

Neither one comes close. Guess that will tick more people off than 2003's post. Saturday night he was hot with the bat but there was a play early in the game inning 1-2-3 where there was a ball hit between he and Cabrera, a grounder. At least Miggy moved in the direction of it, Hanley did not move a muscle, he just stood there as if he missed the fact the ball was even in play, and even though he was the proper cut-off man he still just stood there while the runner rounds first, Willingham is looking for someone to throw it into and Hanley is still standing waiting for a bus until Cabrera goes out to take the ball in and yells something at Hanley. When I say he stood there I mean totally oblivious where he was and what he should be doing. Now maybe we'll find out in a week his mother is deathly ill or some family member got hit by a bus or something and I'll feel terrible, but I never saw Sea Bass that out of a play, ever. I wonder if the loss of Perry Hill has something to do with it, I really do, because I get no comfort from saying these things but I honestly think his SS has been worse this season than last, and I hope it's something off-the-field and he's not turning into a primadonna. I don't want to quote someone incorrectly but I think someone posted in the last week or so that Hanley had the worst zone rating of any starting SS in baseball or the NL last season, and he sure hasn't improved so far.
April 25, 200719 yr i agree with marlins2003. i was at the game, too, and definitely noticed. also, he does seem to be turning into a primadonna.
April 25, 200719 yr Compared to offense, defense is relatively insignificant in baseball (unless you're a catcher). In all reality the difference between the best and worst defensive SS in the league, is very VERY minimal, and almost never affects the outcome of a game. However, the difference between hitting .270 / 80 runs, and .320 / 120 runs is immense. He can have the worst SS Zone in the NL for all I care, as long as he continues to produce a high volume of runs.
April 25, 200719 yr I was curious and I just looked up the category stats for the NL, and here's my summary for Hanley: BA: 1st OBP: 1st RUNS: 1st SLG: 2nd OPS: 2nd Pretty impressive April.
April 25, 200719 yr Any player who hits well and defends poorly is labeled as a primadonna, whether it's true or not.
