Hanley Ramirez

If we actually had fans, then hanley could win the starter's spot. I'm not even bothering to vote, because the marlins players won't even be close to the other guys. Our fanbase is drastically outnumbered compared to the mets (duh, I know).

But it wont hurt to vote.

I was curious and I just looked up the category stats for the NL, and here's my summary for Hanley:

BA: 1st

OBP: 1st

RUNS: 1st

SLG: 2nd

OPS: 2nd

Pretty impressive April.

We are talking defense here. Last I checked all those stats are offense. No one is questioning his ability with the bat. Or Miggy's.

2003 may be onto something with the lack of Perry Hill comment. Hate to say "I knew it", but I knew we would see some kind of down hill slide from our defense when he announced his retirement. Andy may be a student of his and he may incorporate alot of his defensive style/thinking but he still isn't Perry.

Just to keep this realistic... When Gonzo first came up he did great. But the players noticed him starting to get into that prima donna type attitude. It wasn't well reported at that time but I was privy to most of the players at that time and he definetly had an attitude problem. He worked out of it and did a great job for us. I think Hanley will do the same. I doubt Miggy ever loses that attitude.

What does defense have to do with an allstar game?

David Wright was one of the worst defensive 3B last year and barely stepped foot off the field in said game, had his dad interviewed, and basically got splooged on by any media outlet within striking distance, and he was awful at 3B in 2006.

Alex's attitude issues were extremely noticeable, I'm not sure what team you were watching. In fact, I can recall several instances on field in which he was disciplined...including the start of his rookie season when he failed to run out a ground ball and was reprimanded by [whoever the coach was!].

Wish I could have been as privy as you

I stand corrected then. I used to interview players all the time because I was a leader on another site for CBS SportsLine. When he first came up he was very open, although hard to understand. As time wore on he became more of a prima donna. But I do remember talking to a friend that was the club house manager/usher for the AA Seadogs at that time and he said when Gonzo was there he was very friendly and fan oriented and when he came here he got word from a couple of ex-Seadogs that he had changed drastically. So you very possibly could be right.

BTW Gonzo's rookie year was '99. The manager was John Boles. The guy with the deer in the headlights eyes. I had to look that up in my '98 and '99 media guides just to be sure. LOL

No offense intended, but that is part of the problem. An All Star is supposed to be the best all around player at his position. That's why it used to be advertised as the best players in the game.

But you just used Wright as an example. Soooo many more could be added to that list simply because "chicks dig the long ball", to paraphrase. Big Mac, Sammy Sosa, Mike Piazza, the list goes on and on just in the NL in recent years.

Hanley will make the all-star game as long as 3 NL shortstops make it. The NL east is easily the best division in baseball shortstop wise. I think Rollins, Hanley, and Reyes will all make the all-star roster, with Hanley having the greatest chance of getting snubbed(defensive issues and weakest fanbase).

Sports Illustrated is doing a cover story on that topic. But how could you forget giving honorable mention to Edgar?? Shame on you.

Im glad you know the future. Even if the NL gets 3 all star SS's, Hanley is not a guarentee. Its at SF which gives the edge to Omar, also him nearing the end of his career is going to have some thought put in the players and coaches minds. also since every team has to have an all star hanley might get snubbed by some teams like MIL, or CIN, who dont have clear cut all stars, but appearences from brandon phillips and richie weeks will push Hanley back some because either of them can move to SS for a exhibition game. Hanley isnt a lock, the only thing Hanley is a lock for is...not starting the game, since our fan base is weak and Jose Reyes is a top 5 player in MLB.
