May 21, 200719 yr De Aza isnt the answer in CF either. ? Ya wanna give him more than two weeks before you come to that conclusion (and, it's been a while, but I remember him doing well)?
May 22, 200719 yr Not really a shot at De Aza. But its very unlikely he breaks .250 the rest of the way.
May 22, 200719 yr Not really a shot at De Aza. But its very unlikely he breaks .250 the rest of the way. So who on the roster would you prefer (assuming all are healthy and producing their best)? Amezaga really doesn't even belong in CF. I could see an argument for Reggie just since he also brings some power, but he (just like De Aza) needs to show more over a longer stretch. But De Aza at least doesn't have the baggage Reggie does from last season.
May 22, 200719 yr De Aza isnt the answer in CF either. We haven't had better play from a CF than De Aza since Pierre in the brief time he has been a Marlin. De Aza is a true CF Not really a shot at De Aza. But its very unlikely he breaks .250 the rest of the way. Negativity is so rare in this forum
May 22, 200719 yr Im just stating my opinion that I dont think De Aza is the long term answer in CF. If he proves me wrong more power to him though.
May 22, 200719 yr Even if De Aza hits .250 that would be better than anything else we have had in CF and with good defense as well
May 22, 200719 yr Initially, it was reported De Aza had a sprained right ankle, then a sprained ankle and bone bruise now... http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/baseball/marlins/sfl-spmarlins22may22,0,6322914.story?coll=sfla-sports-marlins "De Aza appears to be dealing with a fractured ankle"

It is amazing how long it takes to find out the real injuries our players have down here. Here is the full writeup: De Aza to remain out Don't look for Opening Day center fielder Alejandro De Aza in the lineup anytime soon. On the disabled list since April 18, De Aza appears to be dealing with a fractured ankle, not just a sprain. He first suffered the injury during the season-opening series at Washington and played through it for more than a week. Reggie Abercrombie and Alfredo Amezaga will continue splitting time in center.
May 22, 200719 yr Unbelievable. Did the team just find this out as well? If so, I have to really start questioning the competency of the medical and training staff. If not, and they have known the entire time, why on earth would they attempt to hide it? That seems VERY strange. Any way you slice it, this just adds to the perception that we run a mickey mouse operation.
May 22, 200719 yr That's really wierd. I saw him at a game last home stand and he looked fine walking around. I didn't notice any limp. He even took BP with the team. That really got my hopes up.

Whoever is the Team Doctor really miss that one big time. Isn't the first precautionary action to take an x-ray? That is a huge misdiagnosis It has set De aza back at least 3 weeks
May 22, 200719 yr We need to make a move for a CF Nothing big but Fredo is a fine bench utility player and Reggie is a fine AAA player, neither are starting MLB CFers. I dont want an earth-shattering move, but hopefully we can find something and hopefully we are keeping our options open.

May 22, 200719 yr I'd like us to make a call to the Devil Dogs soon unless Reggie can keep filling in nicely.

Yeah, they knew about this the whole time. This will happen almost anytime a player is out for a substantial amount of time... that's how most FO's deal with these sorts of problems as well. We do need to make a play for a CF, and maybe a young arm floating around somewhere, since we would probably have to give up at least one of ours.
May 22, 200719 yr I would like to see something along the lines of... Dontrelle Willis Jesus Delgado Brett Sinkbeil Harvey Garcia --for-- Carl Crawford Andy Sonnanstine Jacob McGee We would be upgrading significantly in CF, as well as replacing 2 prospect arms with two others who might be better (Sonnanstine, definitely is, and I'm not sure about McGee), and the Devil Rays would now have a core of Willis, Kazmir, and Shields, and they could bolster the bullpen with Garcia and grow a great prospect in Delgado. I would love to see this. Fantastic for both sides.
May 22, 200719 yr Or, the D-Rays could just put Sonnanstine, Hammil, and Niemann in the rotation right now and improve themselves dramatically without having to give up Carl Crawford.
May 22, 200719 yr I'd like us to make a call to the Devil Dogs soon unless Reggie can keep filling in nicely. for who With the kind of outfield talent they are stockpilling in Tampa don't we have a nice selection as long as the price is right? Rocco, Crawford, or Young? All with great contracts. Or am I just fooling myself? Perhaps you could shed some light...
May 22, 200719 yr It would be nice to have a good CF but right now our strength is our run scoring and our weakness is our pitching. Trading DTrain for a CF would weaken our weakness. I wouldn't do it.

I wouldn't do it. Do you honestly believe that? I'm not knocking Train but he has been less then desirable as a #1 this year. I don't think we would lose that much by parting with Train to add more defense and offense. His work ethic and clubhouse presence is not replaceable IMHO. Don't get me wrong I love D-Train but it might be about time to think about moving him. The problem is his value is probably at an all time low. Good thing is there will be a huge demand for pitching at the deadline and Dontrelle's track record speaks for itself.

Delmon Young is going nowhere and I don't see Crawford going anywhere either imo. We missed the boat on BJ Upton.

Well I think we're last or close to last in runs allowed and I know Mitre is pitching very well but I still think DTrain is our best starter. I expect by the end of the season his ERA will be around his career ERA. Aside from DTrain we have a lot of question marks in the rotation and we're scoring plenty of runs without a CF.

Thank you :thumbup We can all cry about spilled milk but we are where we are and trading Willis is plain silly. End of the season, perhaps but right now, not even into June and only five games out of the wildcard, not a chance.
