I have almost puked at the many post describing Alfredo as good defensively. Well tonight he cost us the game after they came back to tie it. Wasted effort because of terrible defense. Haven't we had enough of subpar defensive play in CF or do we need more of last season this year. Fredi needs to get his head out of his rear. May 24, 200719 yr Correct me if im wrong but didn't our overtaxed bullpen give up 3 runs in the 9th? Also i recall stranding bases loaded twice in the game. There's always many chances to win or lose a game. It was not Amezaga alone that cost us the game. In fact he contributed to the big comeback in the ninth.

May 24, 200719 yr It wasn't all Amezaga's fault tonight as he only made one of the Marlins three errors. He picked the worst time to make his. Still, it's hard to win a baseball game when you walk 11 hitters. The Marlins need to make a trade for a legit centerfielder......because Amezaga and the alternatives currently on the roster or in the minors are all garbage. It would help if the CF they get could bat leadoff too, because I love Ramirez batting third.

May 24, 200719 yr I'm not hating on Amezaga or pinning blame on him. There was plenty of blame to go around. I just think the guy is simply not a centerfielder. He's been thrown into a position he shouldn't be playing.

Some people glide to the ball some are always right there. Pasta just chases after the ball. He is not an outfielder. Heck, it took Gathright and another piece to get a decent pitching prospect from the Royals in the first place. Adding another 5th outfielder wont alleviate the situation.

Amezaga should be faster than he is, but he just really isn't. Actually Reggie isn't a bad baserunner at all. Last year he even forced errors with his speed and made an IF hit turn into an IF HR. He probably made a mind fart Wed night, but all players do. Didn't see anyone complaining about Miggy's base running error the other day getting picked off between 2nd and 3rd to make for the DP. Base running blunders are starting to resurface, not as bad as at the start of the year when just about everyone was running through the signs from Bo, but they are happening again in alot of running aspects. Including Hanley not running out that play Tuesday night because he hought it was a foul. Don't know if he would have been safe, but... Reggie is faster than Alfredo, but I gotta admit I do like to watch Alfredo on the bases during pitches, jumping around, trying to distract the pitcher.

Amezaga should be faster than he is, but he just really isn't. Being fast doesn't necessarily make you a good baserunner. Reggie on the basepaths is a stupid mistake waiting to happen and it happened last night. He lost us the game by not taking 3rd on the throw home. Any other baserunner takes 3rd on that play and scores on the wild pitch.
May 24, 200719 yr I didn't go, but I did watch the replay on MLB.tv, and if you think that bleeder in the 10th is Uggla's ball, you're crazy. That's just a case of Amezaga's sub-par range (and that's kind) biting us. It doesn't show up in the box score, so I'm sure statistically he's still a decent centerfielder, but that's just why it's impossible to quantify defense. Last year he got away with it because he wasn't killing us in the batter's box, too, but he just plain sucks right now and has no business as a regular in the lineup. Then again, the same can be said for all the centerfield candidates. If I had my preference right now, I'd let Reed bat 8th and know that at least his glove won't hurt us.

I am the farthest from a Reed fan, basically because he hits like a 9 yr old-but AA ain't much better, especially in key situations. I now agree, Eric is the better choice, the defense alone makes up for it, and AA bats this year is nothing to crow about. He is batting a whopping .229.
