Injury updates: Reliever Carlos Martinez continues to make strides in his recovery from Tommy John elbow surgery.

Martinez will be on a rehab assignment lasting a week to 10 days. He is slated to throw one inning of extended spring game on Saturday.

There is optimism that Martinez could be ready by mid-June. The right-handed reliever's velocity has been in the 93-94 mph range.

Reliever Logan Kensing is throwing 50-60 pitches in bullpen sessions. The right-hander, who also had Tommy John surgery, projects to return after the All-Star break.

Josh Johnson projects to be ready to be activated in three to four weeks. Sidelined with an irritated biceps nerve, Johnson threw a 50-pitch simulated game on Thursday. He soon will be ready to pitch in extended spring games.

Getting Johnson back will boost the rotation, and that may happen before the All-Star break.

Henry Owens, out with a sore right shoulder, threw a bullpen session on Friday at Dolphin Stadium. He is scheduled to pitch in a rehab assignment game with Class A Jupiter sometime this weekend.

Owens' estimated return to the Marlins is five to seven days.

First baseman Mike Jacobs, who has a fractured bone in his right thumb, will not take part in baseball activities for seven to 10 days.

Alejandro De Aza, the rookie center fielder, is on a schedule of no baseball activities for two to three weeks. De Aza has a stress fracture in his right ankle.

Right-hander Ricky Nolasco is on a two-to-three-week no-throw schedule. The earliest he would likely return is the All-Star break.

Outfielder Cody Ross is doing some light jogging as he recovers from a strained left hamstring.

Right-hander Anibal Sanchez is not throwing. He has been bothered by a shoulder problem.

It will be nice to get Logan and K-Mart back after the All-Star break. It would be great to add two "fresh" arms in the pen. BUT... I don't want them to be rushed.

my god, for all the bitching and moaning i do about the way we play, it's really amazing how well we've done without all of these guys.

not a lot of good news there, but no major setbacks is good I guess.

Maybe I missed it, but what has shut down Nolasco until the All-Star break?

I thought it was just soreness...

If we play .500 ball till these guys get back, our club could be something to be reckoned with after the all-star break.

It's amazing how many injuries the Marlins have had, but, it's part of the game. The guys that are wearing the uniforms now need to get it together.

I think that its amazing that we are right around .500 and 3 starting pitchers are injured! Not to mention Jacobs and De Aza. As long as we can stay around .500 by the all star break we should be in decent position to make a wild card run. Hopefully atlanta cools down.

Has there been any update since Sanchez was diagnosed other then "His shoulder hurts"?

Timetable? Can we expect him back this year?

i think he will be back. maybe another month or so?

i hope Cody Ross comes back soon though.

Injury update:

Reliever Henry Owens is scheduled to throw in a rehab assignment at Class A Jupiter on Tuesday night.

If all goes well in the rookie's second rehab appearance, he is expected to be activated in five-to-seven days.

The prognosis for Josh Johnson's return to the rotation remains optimistic.

On the disabled list all season with an irritated biceps nerve, Johnson will throw three innings (or 45 pitches) in an extended spring game at 10 a.m. ET on Tuesday at the Roger Dean Stadium complex in Jupiter, Fla.

The team projects Johnson will be ready to be activated in three weeks.

Also pitching in that extended spring game will be Carlos Martinez, who is recovering from Tommy John elbow reconstruction surgery. The reliever is getting closer to throwing in rehab assignment games.

Logan Kensing, also recovering from Tommy John surgery, will throw live batting practice against hitters on Tuesday.

First baseman Mike Jacobs remains on a five-to-seven day "no baseball activities" time frame. Jacobs is recovering from a fractured bone in his right thumb.

Rookie center fielder Alejandro De Aza, stress fracture in his right ankle, is on a two-to-three week schedule of not taking part in baseball activities.

Ricky Nolasco, sore right elbow, will not throw for at least two more weeks. Anibal Sanchez, right shoulder, has not started throwing. Outfielder Cody Ross, left hamstring strain, is doing some light jogging and general baseball activities.

i swear if we try to rush carlos and logan back i'm going to kill someone.
