Free agent sharpshooter Jason Kapono has quickly reached an agreement Sunday to leave the Miami Heat and sign a four-year deal believed to be worth $24 million with the Toronto Raptors.a

The NBA's free agent period commenced at 12:01 Sunday morning, with free agents unable to formally sign contracts before July 11.

"Jason is excited about this opportunity and intends to sign with the Raptors when the moratorium period ends," said Kapono's agent, Bob Myers.

Kapono, a second-round draft pick of the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2003, led the NBA in 3-point percentage, and posted career-highs in points (10.9) and rebounds (2.7) this season

Jason seemed like a nice guy, so good for him that he got his payday. I didn't expect the Heat to re-sign him, so I'm not too disappointed. He's a great shooter, but really tailed off at the end of last year. Not his fault, just was being used in a role he is not really made for..I think he's best suited coming off the bench and being an instant offense kind of guy. I hope the Heat can re-sign Posey, but Im not optimistic, so it looks like we'll have a couple of new small forwards coming in.

Poo.

Now we're forced to make our bed with Posey.

Yeah it's easy to hit 3's with Shaq spacing the floor, and yeah we've had 3 different three point specialists in 3 years of Shaq, but I'd have liked to see Kapono back, certainly more than Posey.

Posey is better than Kapono in everything except shooting, gimme a break.

I liked Kapono, but he is not worth that kind of money, we don't need another huge salary on this team.

Unless it's Gerald Wallace or Rashard Lewis of course :thumbup

*drools*

I would love Gerald Wallace on this team.

mmm hmmmm.... Ive spent the last 6 months dreaming of Wallace in Orlando.

I'm sad and shocked. Can't believe that bum would do us like that. Can't fault him for taking the money and running though. Good luck in Toronto. Also, the whole Shaq/Wade argument is stupid because those 2 only played in like 15 games together. Kapono did a lot with only 1 superstar in the lineup so with Chris Bosh in Toronto, he'll probably have similar success.

Look out, NBA. The Heat means business!

MIAMI, June 29 ? The Miami HEAT announced today they have made a qualifying offer to Earl Barron, making him a restricted free agent.

Barron, a 7?0?, 245-pound center/forward, has appeared in 36 games for the HEAT after signing as a free agent on Aug. 8, 2005. He has averaged 2.2 points, 1.4 rebounds and 6.9 minutes. This past season he recorded career highs in both points (15) and rebounds (6) in Miami?s Nov. 22 contest at San Antonio.
