If Hanley had played anything similar to this for the most part of the first half he would have deserved a spot on the AST. As it actually happened, he was where he was supposed to be for the game. Hey buddy, Before that stretch, he was still hitting .320 and was among the league leaders in Hits, Stolen Bases, and Runs scored and lead all NL shortstops in OPS. Sure, his defense is sub-par, but lets be honest, the All Star game is NOT about defense.

In addition to the shoulder issue, Bronco, if you recall the 2006 All-Star game Phil Garner didn't give Miggy a chance to hit but did put him in at 3rd base. So much for "going with the manager."
