July 22, 200719 yr is it safe to say that everybody would agree treanor is better than olivo in every aspect of the catcher position and at handling the pitchers? i'm usually an olivo supporter because he's basically not that talented, but plays tough and occasionally comes through big. but after what treanor has shown recently with the bat, doesn't he deserve to start more? a lot more? i don't actually expect treanor to take playing time away from olivo, the same way i know uggla will hit 2nd the rest of the year. but at this point, i think it seems plainly obvious that treanor at least deserves more chances to start, especially considering he's superior defensively. thoughts?
July 22, 200719 yr I read a column before the season about how Treanor had worked on his hitting & had developed a new approach or something. Seems to be paying dividends. Maybe give Treanor the starts when BK and Willis pitch, I'd like to see that. Maybe he can settle Dontrelle down.

That way it would be about Treanor 40% and Olivo 60% giving them both a decent amount of ABs.
July 22, 200719 yr He deserves to see more PT. He has much better AB's and he makes the pitcher WORK. He doesnt hack at 3 pitches and hope for the best. Better AB's and Better D= playing time
July 22, 200719 yr People seem to forget the reason the Royals drafted him, he was supposed to be a great hitter.

July 22, 200719 yr Author Been pulling for that change since before it was cool. you mean since before treanor started hitting better than olivo
July 22, 200719 yr It's nice to know your catcher isn't going to let any balls pass him that shouldn't.
July 22, 200719 yr "he should start starting" You're just now figuring this out? Been pulling for that change since before it was cool. Believe I was one of the first to suggest it.
July 22, 200719 yr Author i'm not just now figuring this out, but at this point i think its unreasonable for him to not get more chances

Maybe he can settle Dontrelle down. agree 1000% Treanor did well with Dontrelle last year, and lets face it, he's actually hitting more than decent these days. I don't expect him to mash very many into the stands, but he's done well this year. And Heaven knows we need to try something else with Willis.
July 22, 200719 yr Heres my vote: Olivo>Treanor Not a knock on Matt or anything but I'll stick with Miguel
July 22, 200719 yr I think we should ride Treanor while he's hot. If he struggles for a few games but Olivo back in and see how he does. Will Matt play tomorrow? I guess that'll depend on whether Fredi'll use him as a starter or not.
July 22, 200719 yr Heres my vote: Olivo>Treanor Not a knock on Matt or anything but I'll stick with Miguel Olivo cant handel Willis or kim. So treanor should catch be their personal catcher. Thats what we are asking for.
July 22, 200719 yr Treanor is great. I believe he has been in the organization the longest as a current marlin(dont quote me on it). Hes always nice with asking for a picture or autograph. I have never had a hard time with him. But hes just not a starting catcher for a franchise, hes just an awesome back up
July 22, 200719 yr Olivo has been absolutely horrible this season. a .660 OPS from someone that his bat is supposed to be his strength is just flat out rediculous. Please give Treanor more starts.
July 22, 200719 yr I agree with Hotcorner that Treanor should get more starts I disagree with the thread starter that Treanor is better in every aspect of catching. Olivo has a much stronger arm and has much more power in his bat. Neither of them make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. PS....I love these threads that come out right after Treanor has like a career night. lol
July 22, 200719 yr There's a reason Olivo has been let go by three organizations, he's not an everyday MLB caliber player. When Olivo is hot he's a great offensive player the problem is his hot streaks last 2-3 games tops. I like Treanor and think he could help with Willis more so than Olivo.
