Maybe it was another version of the same press meeting but my understanding was he was told to emotionally be prepared for the possibility he may need surgery.

Unless the visit to Andrews is a second opinion and diagnosis is already been made, I think perhaps ESPN may be getting ahead of itself. But then again all three papers had slightly different versions of what was said.

wow it is amazing how it looked as if he had 4 young quality pitchers after the 2006 season , now we have one head case who has not pitched well at all and 3 pitchers whose health and futures remain in doubt , it is almost like we will have to rebuild again

yeah, maybe, very sad.

Stinks. I wonder what we are going to do next year. We have Dontrelle, Olsen, Mitre and.... ??? But we might not even have Mitre, Olsen or Dontrelle next year.

i think you're being a little pessimistic... Don't get me wrong this is a big hit to the team and the season, but i still think they can still be that great rotation, i think its just about getting over that hump. By that i mean coming from the minors they rarely if every see a season of 200ip and probably 180 even. so i think their arms just have to get in shape for a 200 plus inning year and that might take more than one probably something like 3 to get them all together and pitching up to their capabilities.. and thats not to say that a few of them might not pan out. that i think is a inevitability that we have to accept, i just hope its Olsen and not JJ, Nolasco, Sanchez, etc.

just a quick question if JJ does in fact have TJ surgery what does our rotation look like for Opening Day 2008?

Willis

Olsen

Mitre

?

?

Reason im saying is i cant remember if Sanchez would be ready for Spring Training next year or if it would be a little longer. We could throw in Nolasco in the mix also but other ppl on this board seem to know more about the time table and what the Marlins might do.

i read that volstad was promoted to AA. is there a chance he will be called up in september, and if he pitches well (or similar to vanden hurk, i.e. he shows hes got good stuff and just needs to harness it) could he challenge for the 4 or 5 spot next year?

Gaby Hernandez will certainly get a long hard look.... same with Daniel Barone (to a lesser extent)

never know with Anibal and Nolasco... hell maybe they move Tank back to starting

yeah thats true, it will deffinately me nice to see Gaby get more of a look in anticipation of possibly joining the starting rotation. i really want to see Anibal back though, he will have the offseason and ST to build back up his strength.

I think it will look something like this:

Willis

Mitre

Olsen

Nolasco

Sanchez/Van Dan Hurk/ Gaby

If Sanchez is ready he will be in for sure. Also, we shouldn't forget about Jose Garcia. Although I must admit I don't know the extent of his injury and if he will be ready by next spring.

I think it's unrealistic to expect much from Anibal next year.

I doubt he'll be ready in time for the start of the season.

It's a 6-8 month recovery time. He should be in spring training shape by April, and game ready by May or June.

I think he'll be fine for '08, just not all of it.

Yea he was, according to the Marlins web site. I fully expect this kid to get a Sept call up and really challenge for a spot in the rotation come ST.

And just because he's another PBC home grown and fits a need cheaply (payroll-wise)... Wonder what it would take to get Salty away from Texas if that trade comes about with Atlanta? Or from Atlanta if it dosen't?

Joe Frisaro, of Marlins.MLB.com, reports Florida Marlins SP Josh Johnson (forearm/elbow) has some stiffness in his elbow, which may require Tommy John surgery. Johnson will visit Dr. James Andrews sometime next week and if it's decided he needs ligament replacement surgery he will likely miss the entire 2008 season.

:mad :mad I wish someone would ban you. Not that you did anything wrong, I just would like to take my frustration out on the stinkin' Met fan who announces this.

DAMNIT that sucks! JJ was my favorite pitcher of the staff. Ugh. This is gross mishandling of a stud. heads need to roll over this. :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead

I think this shows not that we need to change how we handle this pitchers in the majors, but how we groom them in the minor. We can't expect them to have such an increase in workload and for them to be fine.

I don't see how any of this is new news, it's still a "may require" and "could potentially" situation.

Nothing's been done yet.
