If Fredi gets Fired..........

Featured Replies

I would not mind seeing Ozzy come here; however, I do not see Feddi getting fired after one season.

Here Here

Agreed as well.

better manager then our last one. I dont see him getting fired this year. Now if Ozzie is fired I could see him come here as a bench coach or special assistant to the team

I dont think Ozzie would want anything other than a manager job. We need a Spanish Speaking manager and Ozzie would be the guy. The Sox are playing terrible and hes gonna be fired. This team needs another tough manager. Dirardi was a tough manaer too, and guys like Scott Olsen need a manager like Ozzie. This team needs to be straightened out.

yeah too bad Fredi Gonzalezwho was born in Cuba and raised in a Cuban-American household doesn't speak Spanish.

:mis2

:lol

I didn't even catch that. Do some of you think about the things you are going to post before actually posting?

I think the correct term would be pwned

:D

Giradi is the reason for a lot of our problems this year and yes Ozzie would be a tough manager and work well with Scotty. He also loves this team and is friends with Willis and Miggy. I think he would be great in a front office spot here.

Why would Fredi be fired? He does everything the front office demands him to do. Just like a good boy.

he's the quintessential puppet, who toes the company line like they want. and as much as i know fredi is an idiot, i don't think ozzie's style would work with such a young team.

Ozzie's style doesn't work with any team. He lucked out in 2005 by having ridiculous pitching, but his "style" probably ended up costing the Sox 50 runs over the course of the season. Ozzie is, hands down, the worst manager in the major leagues, and he's a huge a**hole, to boot.

I don't want Ozzie anywhere near this team as a manager.

No matter who our manager is we are always going to have these "Fire ____ threads". Fredi is doing perfectly fine with what he has.

yea, got a bunch of White Sox friends and they hate him

oh yeah, me too. I have a ton of friends who live in Chicago and are White Sox fans and they despise him. They say he doesn't have any idea how to put a lineup together, bunts way too often, and costs his team runs almost every game.

Sounds like a National League manager to me. Don't we need a spanish speaking manager here? :mischief

They finished 8th in OPS and 9th in runs scored and that makes sense because of the very strong correlation between team OPS and runs scored.

Had they scored 50 additional runs they would be 4th in runs scored.

I'll bet you the last 10 years no team has finished 4 spots higher in runs scored than where they finished in OPS.

I don't know where you got the 50 runs number but I think it's way off.

Fredi won't get fired because

A) He shouldnt get fired (yet)

B) FO would look silly doing so after they canned a good manager who didnt want to be a puppet last year.

The 50 runs number was one of my own conjecture.

Ozzie sac bunted and had his players steal far too often. They led the league in SH, and CS. I would assume these two factors impacted their runs scored quite a bit, and if they had done them even half as often, they probably would've scored (conservatively) an extra 20 runs.

I think it's time to bring out our good friend Mr. Runs Created Formula and plug in some numbers. :mischief

I'm just going to quote a little something I said before...

So far I've heard nothing but good things about our new skipper, but then again, that's always the case when someone is hired for his first managerial job. It's only after a guy actually starts working that people start talking about his faults. And one thing that worries me is that nobody (to my knowledge, anyway) has talked about his disciplinary habits.

We all know that Joe was a big disciplinarian. To my belief, that was a big reason why he was so successful with a young club. Actually, I think discipline works with clubs of all ages, but its importance is enhanced when you have to manage kids.

I'm having my doubts about Gonzalez. He seems to be too much of a nice guy. It doesn't help that he's from the John Boles school. Think back to the Scott Olsen incident (when Girardi grabbed him and Scotty was lights out afterwards). Does Gonzalez have the balls to take an absent minded player and get him on track? I'm not saying that Gonzalez has to be as rough as Joey Pitbull was, but does he have the balls to be the man in charge?

They say Gonzalez is a pretty smart guy. Maybe he'll manage games better than Girardi (that was my only complaint with him, and a big one it was, though he did get better as the season went along). But Girardi's success was more closely tied with the attitude he instilled on the team. Hopefully Gonzalez has some of that as well.

Nice guy Fredi will get canned next May or June.

I'd be willing to make a wager of some sort with you on that

Well, SOMEBODY'S gotta be fired. It'll probably be the pitching coach, who's been just as bad as Arnsberg.

Nobody should be fired primarily because this season has been decimated by injuries.

:lol :lol

Since you guys completely dissected and trashed my favorite stat, OPS.

Use one of Baseball Prospectus' stat equations. They look pretty useful.

EDIT: I have no idea what I was doing, but I completely posted this in the wrong thread.

Fredi better than Girardi???? How could you possibly say that??? I'm not bashing Fredi right now ( eventhough I really don't like him) but on what grounds could you say Fredi is better?

Ok bobbob, I did some quick math. Here is what I found:

I did the following:

-Used the 'Technical' Runs Created formula. Seen here

-Took out the Pale Hoses' actual sac bunt, stolen base, and caught stealing totals and replaced them with the AL average in 2005.

-Then did the formula, using the team's actual SH, SB, and CS totals for 2005.

A 2005 ChiSox team managed by an 'average' AL manager:

(1450+435-34+79-123) x (2349 + (.26 x (435-27+79)) + (.52x(32+49+83)) / 5529+435+79+32+49 = 730 Runs

A 2005 ChiSox team managed by Ozzie Guillen:

(1450+435-67+79-123) x (2349 + (.26 x (435-27+79)) + (.52x(53+49+137)) / 5529+435+79+53+49 = 715 Runs

According to my method, Guillen's style of managing cost the ChiSox 15 runs in 2005. That's about 1.5 wins.

I agree, Fredi is definitely getting controlled by Beinfest. I mean, it ain't his fault, it just he ain't all the way black.

Great job Festa.

Out of curiosity, what was going wrong with the original attempt that had Ozzie's "smart ball" (his term, not mine) actually helping out?

The only problem I can think is why did the team actually end up scoring more than they did? One could argue they scored more due to his small ball techniques, though I can't see that being possible. I would assume (though I don't have any data to back it up) that they performed above expectations with RISP, and that i didn't have anything to do with the small ball, as there is almost never a positive correlation between "small ball" techniques and runs scored.

Though I forget that their park increases runs scored pretty substantially doesn't it? That might explain it.

A few things:

1) The biggest issue was my note taking. My notes became extremely messy and I got lost in my own numbers. So I just started from scratch and all mistakes started to pop up. That's the biggest lesson I learned in all this. KEEP NEAT NOTES!!!

2) As screwed up as some of my numbers were, I still got a number between 729-731. The White Sox scored 741 runs in 2005. I kept thinking to myself, "Well he created between 9-11 runs." It finally dawned on me runs created doesn't take into account for runners who reach base via error. :lol

It was an experience to say the least.

My views on Fredi are irrelevant, as it is the front offices decision.

But Ozzie Guillen is not the answer. Staunch preference towards veterans and forms vendettas against his own players.

Ozzie is, hands down, the worst manager in the major leagues

I disagree with this. I dont think Ozzie is a good manager, but I personally think Joe Torre is the worst in game manager in baseball.

That's a lot less than the 50 runs you said...

why would he get fired..

people think he is too passive by the comments he makes to the media.

you guys have no clue what he says to the the team or players behind closed doors
