September 4, 200718 yr Courtesy Albuquerque Isotopes Four players that were key to the Albuquerque Isotopes? dramatic pennant run will continue their seasons in the Major Leagues, as Reggie Abercrombie, Robert Andino, Brett Carroll, and Ross Wolf have been called up to the Florida Marlins and will join the big league team tomorrow. Abercrombie enjoyed a stellar season in his first stay at Triple-A, setting an Isotopes franchise record with 41 stolen bases while adding a .323 batting average, 23 doubles, nine triples, 16 home runs, and 52 RBI entering today?s play. This will be the outfielder?s second trip to the Majors this season, having appeared in 20 games for the Fish from May 6 to June 23. Shortstop Andino was also excellent this season, garnering both PCL Mid-season and All-PCL Post-season team recognition after batting .279 with a team-high 13 triples. Andino also set career-highs by belting 13 homers and driving in 50 runs on the year. Carroll?s call-up completes a whirlwind season for the outfielder, who began 2007 in Double-A Carolina before joining the Isotopes on May 9. In 88 games, Carroll batted .314 with 19 homers and 70 RBI, including a career-high three-home run contest against Omaha on July 18. On June 17, Carroll made his Major League debut and appeared in 11 games for Florida before returning to the ?Topes on July 1. Like Carroll, relief pitcher Wolf also made his big league debut this season, appearing in six games for the Marlins from August 10 to August 26. For Albuquerque, Wolf was solid in his second year at the Triple-A level, going 4-3 with a 3.42 ERA in 45 games with two saves. --------------------------- why Andino!?!?

Maybe give him some time at 2B to see how he does, considering any impact he will ever have for this team is as a utility man. Hopefully Ross/Reggie/Carroll will split CF duties. This is Reggie's last shot in my eyes, surley not in the team's though. And Wolf, whatever.tre Would like to see one more starter, as I think Hurk/Mitre should be shut down. I'd have Barone/ Seddon start for them.

September 4, 200718 yr If you've made it more obvious than not that you're going to non-tender your incumbent opening day starting catcher, and you have an intriguing option at AAA, doesn't it make just the slightest bit of sense to use the September callups for the purpose for which they were designed?

I don't think there's any grand conspiracy or incompetence on the part of the FO, in fact you would think the opposite. After all, Your current catcher is making $2 million and headed either out of town or to arbitration, and Baker would make a fifth or less of that were he to show he was able to step in, so for all you people who are always complaining the Marlins are skin flints they would of course be looking at the guy if there was/is a reason to do so. More likely, and there is a number of reasons why (???) he isn't with the team ths morning, including exhaustion, family matters (I don't know if he's married but he may have asked go home for a few days), injury (catchers do get banged over the course of a season even in the minors) or a dozen others unthought of, including the Marlins are satisfied with scouting reports and the thoughts of Dean Treanor and already know what they have in him. Or they want him to take some time off and evaluate him further in the AFL. From a fan perspective, sure there's interest in seeing who this guy is and how sharp are his tools, etc. Maybe Ramp can find out, I thought I would check with someone later in the week but while I'm a little disappointed (I admit to never have seen him play) these things have a way of working themselves out.

After speaking with his father this morning, I have learned there is nothing wrong with John. He is not injured, there are no family issues, no exhaustion... nothing. In fact he is driving back to Sacramento from Albuquerque as we speak. Also, the team as a whole (Topes) was very upset that Scott Seabol(who broke almost every hitting record down there) was not called up either.

I wasn't surprised Hoover was called up but if what you're saying is Baker is definitely not being called up (or the Marlins haven't indicated anything ala the AFL is in his future) you really have to wonder. Moving the eligibility date back a season as they did in the last collective bargaining agreement sets this year up have lots of choices at any number of positions. If he is Rule 5 eligible perhaps the Marlins already know what they have in him and don't need to be showcasing him when the outcome (2007 season) isn't going to change. Just guessing. Is Dean Treanor coming up to the Fish as well?
