September 17, 200719 yr As we all know in Florida college football is king . I thought it would be interesting to ranks Florida's football programs since it seems several colleges and universities are emerging onto the national scene while some of the old guard is declining 1. University of Florida ...I think it goes with out saying even though they are young and their defense still concerns me they are still the best 2. University of South Florida .....while the win against Auburn is diminished still they are a top 20-25 team 3. University of Central Florida ...amazing effort , new stadium , they like usf are on the rise i think they are a fringe top 25 team 4A Florida State University ....they are a program in decline I hate too say it because as much as I root for Gators i have always respected Bobby Bowden it seems like it might be time for the program to move in a different direction and bring in a fresh voice 4B Miami ....much like FSU a program thats seems rooted in the past currently they are an average team it is too early to say whether Shannon will work out or not and as much as people hype up their recruiting i still think they are several years away . 5. FAU....marginally better than FIU, i dont see how they are going to break into the top elechon in the state based out of Boca 6.FIU...all the elements are there but it will take a while Future prediction UCF and USF will continue to gain strength in the state while FSU will continue to flounder(by fsu standards) with Bowden at the helm
September 17, 200719 yr 1. University of Florida (DUR!) 2. FSU (better than UM for now) 3. UM 4. USF 5. UCF 6. FAU 7. FIU You're really kidding yourself if you place USF or UCF ahead of FSU and UM.
September 17, 200719 yr The state of Florida is the capital of college football IMO. Even though FSU and Miami are average right now, they will be back. Also adding two more schools to the state's dominance. Florida is a state to be reckoned with.

While I agree about UCF getting way to much credit because of one game, USF is a very good team. I'd rate them above UM, and possibly FSU.

FIU You're really kidding yourself if you place USF or UCF ahead of FSU and UM. I dont have any confidence in FSU's offense seriously to struggle against UAB....not good.... on a neutral field USF takes them . as to Miami not impressive at all .

September 17, 200719 yr I guess I'm a homer but I think UM is better than FSU...we play at Doak this year so we may lose anyway...but right now I'd take Miami. USF can beat them both; UCF cannot. So, I'd go: 1. UF 2. USF 3. UM 4. FSU 5. UCF The incoming recruiting classes for both UM and FSU are supposedly stellar, so I don't think either program is going away, but with all this competition on the state level, it's going to be even harder to compete on a national level.

September 17, 200719 yr Florida USF UM FSU UCF FAU Man, Kyle Israel sucked....if UCF had any other QB they beat Texas..UCF-FSU in a neutral site or at UCF would be one hell of a game.
September 17, 200719 yr There is a reason we play the games, but wouldn't it be cool if we could develop a Florida College Conference? We could have all 3 major sports well represented.
September 17, 200719 yr by the way, not saying their better but the state of Texas would definitely give you guys a run for your money
September 17, 200719 yr by the way, not saying their better but the state of Texas would definitely give you guys a run for your money But they are larger, so we are more impressive because we have such a good bunch.
September 17, 200719 yr Texas/UCF = best football game i've ever been to. Probably the wettest too, no?
September 17, 200719 yr FSU is still a top team in the NCAA. Their talent pool will always be great, and even though they are going through some down years it's not for lack of great players. You look at some of the guys on offense who were stud prospects that really failed to live up to the hype in recent years--Booker, Fagg, Weatherford, Carr and of course, Lee. But anyway, FSU is a 9 win team this year, book it. Opinions and guarantees (such as 'book it') subject to change upon return from Alabama game in Jacksonville

Look at the history of on field performance by both teams. FAU has won significantly more games, are 4-1 all time against FIU, made the I-AA playoffs in our 3rd season and finished ranked 4th in the nation that season(2003), became the fastest team in history to defeat a I-A opponent(MTSU), beat Hawaii at Hawaii, finished 3rd in the Sun Belt last year in our 1st official year in the conference, just became the first Sun Belt school to beat a Big 10 team(Minnesota)....I could go on. We will be fine based out of Boca, as soon as we get our on campus stadium(which should be approved by our Board this Tuesday). I think it will be easier to make the leap in Boca than it will be for FIU in Miami. We aren't right in UM's shadow. Plus we can recruit those kids from Miami that want to stay in state, but want to go away from home.
September 17, 200719 yr by the way, not saying their better but the state of Texas would definitely give you guys a run for your money Ha, their best team barely beat UCF.

Thats like people saying UF would suck forever a few years ago during their 8 win seasons. OH WE FORGET THOSE YEARS EVER HAPPENED!!!! USF is up there right now but Auburn, as it turns out, is a BAD team and cant beat other bad teams at home. Thats right, sorry, one of your SEC teams (one? Ole Miss, Miss St, Vandy, Auburn, Tenn, UGA) is not good this year. UCF is a fringe top 25 team? Im rooting for UCF, but you obviously havent seen much besides a near home win against that Texas team that snuck by Arky St at home. They are a good team, but not the 3rd best in the state.

I don't think FSU and UM are in the decline its just that the recruiting in Florida has become so competitive the past couple of years and they aren't pulling it in like they used to in the 90's. As we know UF is winning the recruiting battle, say what you want about Ron Zook he was a hell of a recruiter and Urban Meyer has done a even better job replacing him. USF is only getting better and with these huge victories ( Louisville, WVU Auburn) the past couple of years they attract big time recruits and are on the rise I think they have one more big win in them this year which will put them in the top 25. UCF is up and coming and what they did on Saturday helps their image so much and attracts more recruits. A new stadium brings in more money for recruiting and can only help them get better. I wouldn't be surprised to see them switch into the Big East if a team leaves. UCF is on the rise with so many new additions to help them bring people in (the expansion of the stadium, the new basketball arena, a med. school). Heres the way I think they rank right now. 1.UF 2.USF 3.UM 4.FSU 5.UCF 6.FAU 7. FIU
September 17, 200719 yr Texas/UCF = best football game i've ever been to. Probably the wettest too, no? It was pretty nuts. When it started downpouring for the second time...we had just scored to make it 23-17 and got the ball back. the student section was going nuts in the midst of the biggest rain drops you'd ever seen in your life. it got the team fired up and that's when we gained the momentum to take the lead 24-23

After drinking all day and then baking in the sun for a couple hours God decided to give us a cool down. One of the problems with the new stadium is that they don't have water fountains so the lines for bottled water get long and a lot of people were passing out.
September 17, 200719 yr The difference between the talent of UM and Fla st compared to USF and UCF, its almost ridiculous...
September 17, 200719 yr This is a ridicilous thread. USF and UCF are nowhere near an FSU or Miami. Have you seen the recruiting class UM is bringing in right now, btw? It is unbelievable. Give Randy Shannon a QB and another class like this one and UM will be right back to the USC/UM of only a few years ago level. They will be fine. USF and UCF will never be at that level. College football is all about recruiting, and USF, UCF very rarely (I mean like 1 out of every 1000) win the battle for a big time recruit that one of the big three are after. That is the difference.
