Miggy Trade Question

Featured Replies

I had a friend email me ask me if I heard anything on this front. He says he has heard something, but I am just checking to see if anyone else has seen this on the radar anywhere.

Miggy / Mitre / Jai Miller

for

Evan Longoria, Jacob McGee, Wade Davis, Fernando Perez

My understanding is that Longoria is untouchable as they are talking about moving Iwamura over to 2B to make room for him. But, untouchable is a funny word these days (see: Boston and Hanley). None the less, I don't know if TB would do this... but if this has some kind of merit whatsoever, I would do it in a heartbeat.

Longoria, Davis, and possibly Perez would all be starting come opening day.

untouchable means nothing when Miggy is involved

and I wouldn't do this in a "heartbeat"... if we're going to move Cabs, we need to make it public to everyone and let every team make an offer

we could do better than that possibly

1) We could do better

2) Miggy won't be traded "just because."

3) Tampa won't be looking to move the farm for a position player, especially a very expensive one

I can see this is going to be a really l o n g off-season.

But a couple things do come to mind. Ramp is correct, if Miggie is to get traded it's the auction route, open to all bidders. I'm not sure it's even a good opportunity for the Rays (and I'm not talking about the talent balance of what's being suggested here). What would the Rays want with Miggy and his salary except maybe to turnaround and trade him for what they really need, and if that's the case it seems an overly-complex exercise when there are alternative ways to get where they want to go.

I guess I just have trouble picturing him (in the figurative sense) in a Rays uniforms in '08 and beyond.

Lastly, a real consideration here is what kind of shape Miggy shows up in for his arbitration hearing. both as a member of the Marlins going forward and externally as a trade prospect.

We're going to hear a million of these this fall and winter, this fails the smell test for me on a number of levels.

Wait...There is a dude named Evan Longoria??? That's gotta suck.

I'll go so far as to say no, it doesn't have to suck.

Yea, he's quite the stud in his own right

Yeah, it's just something I heard through the grapevine, and not a reliable grapevine. I was just seeing if this has at all been heard somewhere else.

With that being said, situational outcomes aside... I believe it's a fair talent trade-up. As of right now, no one can say that in the end Longoria won't be as good as Cabrera one day. No one can say he will be that good either, but he most definitely carries that elite caliber of talent. The rest of that package is nice I suppose, and is certainly helpful. I like Perez and McGee a lot.

It's nothing of course, as there will be many other nothings through the winter.

Stud or not, would you like to have a name like Evan Longoria?

The Rays would be one of the teams I'd love to see us do a deal with, but we would have to insist on getting back one of their outfielders in a Miggy trade.

Yeah I get it. Except his name is Evan Longoria not EVAn LONGORIA

Just think of how many fun pictures you can make with him though. I bet you already have 4 somewhere on your computer that you forgot about.

I have one with him in a bikini, but I hear it's not photoshoped.

Marlins arent gonna let Miguel go at least no for another season. Miguel wont go to most teams with the $$ cuz most star players are 3B men and Miguel is a starter. I doubt he will go to another team to be 2nd to someone at least with the Marlins hes the main attraction to the show.

Evan Longoria has a lot of potential I personally love him as a prospect but you gotta be kidding!

I'll take Longoria, Navarro, Mcgee, Upton, Davis, Kazmir.

But Tb would be crazy to do that for one player, thats why its so tough to trade a guy like him.

That can't be serious.

That would be like us giving up Miggy, Hermida, Dontrelle, Gaby Hernandez, and RVH for Chipper Jones

I mean, we can't seriously think we are contenders next year without major overhaul. I don't think Miguel and Dontrelle are going to last until May, so what other team can package the A talent prospects that fit our needs like TB can? Can the package be a little better than that? Of course it could... but not that much better.

I didn't create the trade scenario... just heard it.

If we do actually trade Cabs, the Devil Rays and Dodgers would be the two teams I would think could meet our needs. I would want Longoria+ one of Upton or Delmon Young+ one of McGee or Wade Davis. The Dodgers could offer up Laroche/Kemp/Kershaw.
