Sides optimistic about keeping Pudge?

Featured Replies

I choose Pudge over Vlad. Pudge is a contact hitter and can play catcher and OF if he wants.

Pudge can play outfield?!

OF isn't as hard a catcher, believe me. With his arm he would be better than Vlad.

With his speed he would be worse than Carl Everett.

Pudge is fast, you don't know what you speak of. He has plenty of stolen bases just this season.

fast...... FOR A CATCHER

Carlos Lee aint too swift and he had 18sb, Nomar had 19, and Pudge only had 11

fast...... FOR A CATCHER He's faster than Kevin Millar, I can tell you that.

Pudge would have to be crazy to leave Miami. He's spanish and we have the most spanish fans in the country with the cubans and latin americans and our community is perfect for spanish players. We've shown to the country that NOBODY supports their team like we do in these playoffs and we're the best team in baseball. Everybody on the team is young and Pudge will be able to keep winning if he stays in with the Marlins.

Please stay pudge!

Carlos Lee aint too swift and he had 18sb, Nomar had 19, and Pudge only had 11 Sorry I had to leave while arguing a point but Ramp is right. Lee runs like he's got s*** in his pants, and he stole 18 this year. Although Lee is a good outfielder, but that just happened this year after several years in the OF. Pudge maybe is fast enough to be a decent corner outfielder, but that's not the only part of the transition.

I would choose Vlad over Pudge. But that's just me....

I would choose Vlad over Pudge. But that's just me.... No that's not just you. I agree, but the Marlins aren't going to be able to afford Vlad, and will only be able to afford Pudge if he's willing to sign for lower than market value. That's simply a fact of life.

From a pure baseball perspective I choose Vlad without a doubt, but it seems Pudge is willing to take a VERY reasonable deal. We probably also resign Lowell and drop Redmond, Lee, and Castillo. But who knows? This management is taking a HUGE step to ensure that after the WS south Fla doesn't perceive the releasing of players as another ownership meltdown. It doesn't make sense financially but it seems the ownership is willing to take risks to secure a ballpark and fan loyalty which will more than offset any losses they make take in the next few years. I give it a :thumbup

Especially since Pudge and Ugi enjoy kissing each other!! In all seriousness, I think that the kiss showed how genuine this team is --- that was simply sheer emotion and something I have never seen before and something that will probably be rarely seen again.

Now that you mention that, I was curious and I went into a Chicago chat room today and guess what they were talking about...the kiss. Some a** was saying that Pudge was gay and that men don't kiss. I tried explaining to him that it's a Hispanic thing, but of course, since they are so hard headed and plain stupid, he didn't listen to me. But it's okay b/c what you said explains it all. :thumbup

Great post. I agree 100 percent. Only thing i'm saying is try and resign pudge, because vlad is nothing more than a pipedream due to his price tag, although vlad is also the better and younger player.

Why would you choose a older, and worse (respectively) hitter in Pudge than a younger star in Vlad!?

Especially when your next starting catcher is Castro (I'm still sticking with my comments that he will be a GREAT player).

and....

he is saving for a certain RF from the Expos whose name starts with Vlad and ends with Guerrero... :shifty

You and I have had these discussions...and I dont want to get ahead of ourselves here, but since we are at it, what the heck. If, and that is a big if, we go out and get Vlad, that means Enc is gone. Lee would have to be dismissed too, for financial reasons (ahem, Vlad) which means Conine at 1B and Migs in LF. We still have to re-sign Lowell and Burnett, etc. I think that with this team's success, Loria is going to foot the bill in an effort to get his deal - and he will get it. Funny things happen when you win - and we are witnessing a miracle here. In order for any of this to happen, you will have to see a return of this cast in order to sell the fans which in turn gets the support this franchise desperately needs. H Bomb was an idiot for trading away that 97 team - he had an agenda though. Loria wont make that mistake here.

But there is another free agent that appeals to me...and you all will call me crazy - Miguel Tejada. Why not? I doubt it, very seriously, but could you imagine a World Series team that gets Vlad, Tejada and a returning AJ? That would be sick - and we would still be cheaper than the Yanks!!! :whistle

I dont think we are going to add Vlad at the expense of Pudge - that doesnt make sense. If we add Vlad, Pudge will be on this roster too. In fact, I think most of this roster will be back next season.

I'm curious how a team with a 52 million dollar payroll is going to pay Vlad, even if Pudge does leave.

Vlad is not that young, and the guy K's too much.

He's 27, young enough for me.

BUT, he bats . 330.

Pudge doesn't.
