Posted October 10, 200717 yr They said on sportscenter today that the dbacks had about 12,000 seats left for games 1 and 2. They also said that in 2001, when they won the world series, they didnt sell out any games in the nlds or nlcs. The first playoff sellout was in game 1 of the world series. So while no one shows up when we dont win, at least we get people to show up for playoff games. :confused

Most likely game one would not have sold out in 2001 then if they did not play a high profile team like the Yankees or Redsox.
October 10, 200717 yr Heck yeah, the Marlins even opened up space and still sold out. D-back fans have no complaints about a stadium either
October 10, 200717 yr Heck yeah, the Marlins even opened up space and still sold out. D-back fans have no complaints about a stadium either We didnt sell out any of the Giants playoff games in 07. They opened up the outfeild updeck and club though.
October 10, 200717 yr Heck yeah, the Marlins even opened up space and still sold out. D-back fans have no complaints about a stadium either We didnt sell out any of the Giants playoff games in 03. They opened up the outfeild updeck and club though. Fixed. And we still had more people than any other park even has capacity for. By a long shot.

Game 1 had 61,000+ and game 2 had 65,000 (which was the same as all the other playoff games). So I guess game one was 4,000 short. Game 1 in 03 still had 13,000 more people than the dbacks stadium even holds.

October 11, 200717 yr i think he was talking about games 1 and 2 against the giants in 97. i think i remember hearing the same thing.
October 11, 200717 yr That's pretty sad that they can't sell out home LCS games. Even we could, and this town is a football town.

Even if they weren't, that is nitpicking. 03 playoffs had great turnout. Atlanta always has 10-12000 unsold playoff seats in a much smaller stadium and were filled for the cub series that year with about 25% or more cub fans-like here. Thinking back, I always remain shocked, not that there were so many cub fans here, but that for the WS, the stadium felt like 90% marlin fans vs 10% yankees. I had expected it to be 50/50. That was the "attendance" shocker for me in 03.

Those can't be sold under any circumstance.
October 12, 200717 yr I distinctly remember a few thousand empty seats in the sections where the championship banners are placed during the season for Game 3 of the DS in 2003.

They opened up the outfeild updeck and club though. Not only is that false, but the Marlins (in 2003) held the record for highest attendance in each of the three playoff series. "Selling out" is 37,000. The team should not be punished for filling 66,000 seats in a 68,000 seat stadium.
October 13, 200717 yr Don't kid yourselves. I much rather have larger crowds at regular season games than having sellouts in the post season. All that means is that we have a lot of "bandwagoneers" here in South Florida as opposed to true baseball fans.

All that means is that we have a lot of "bandwagoneers" here in South Florida as opposed to true baseball fans. Ya there is some truth to that. I rather have people come out the entire year. But it does say something when your fans dont come out in full force in the SECOND round of the playoffs.
October 13, 200717 yr Author True. The Fins dont get that many people sometimes. The dolphins havent sold out their last two playoff games (in 2001 vs baltimore and 2000 vs indy)

Thats about 7,000 more than the next largest stadium. If the marlins ever get a new stadium and have about 4,000 empty seats in a 38,000 seat park, then that will be really bad. Anything over 60,000 is excelllent.
October 13, 200717 yr Give them a break. They're still hungover from celebrating the Phoenix Mercury's WNBA title...

Even play off games. Kinda like saying, "See!! It's not so bad I don't support my team."
