October 25, 200718 yr I would love to see Floyd back in a Marlins uniform but I agree that it would have to be coming off the bench. Hammer and Hermida need to be anchoring the outfield next year.
October 25, 200718 yr What the PBP also said is that Cliffy told his agent to put feelers out to every team. And that he wants close to the $3mil deal he had with the Cubs last year when he hit .284 with 9 dingers and 45 ribbies in 108 games. I pass. Let him and CJ root against the Marlins in another WS.
October 25, 200718 yr If he wants to be a starter, no thank you. If Uncle Cliffy wants to be the primary power bat off the bench, come on home. hit the nail on the head. cliffy starting for us would be pretty stupid, our defense is bad enough. but off the bench and as an occasional spot start, im all for it. maybe package jacobs and olsen for a willits cf type and put cliffy at first? are you high? youre right, that was stupid. but it did seem to work out when we shipped cj and preston wilson for pierre (and hampton). granderson or posednik would probably be more in line. i think willits is better than you guys make him out to be... hes the style of player that we need.

No, we don't need an empty player like Podsednik
October 25, 200718 yr If the Marlins got a Podsednik type and somehow managed to overcome that and do well, I can just see the headlines. "And the Marlins hearts grew three times that day".
October 25, 200718 yr No, we don't need an empty player like Podsednik WRONG. Maybe you need to read Wikipedia RAMP! Stupid. Why do I need to keep educating you on this. In December 2004, the Chicago White Sox realized Podsednik's ability and felt he was perfect for the direction they were going, which was to win with speed and timely hitting versus power. Podsednik was dealt to Chicago, along with pitcher Luis Vizcaino, for veteran slugger Carlos Lee in a trade that would ultimately benefit both teams. In 2005, Podsednik became the catalyst on a White Sox team that led the Central Division for the entire season and played an integral part in the White Sox winning their first World Series title since 1917. Despite spending time on the injured list, he still managed to finish a close second in stolen bases, batted .290, led the league in infield hits, and stole third base on 18 out of 19 attempts. A well rounded yet below average offensive White Sox team enabled Podsednik to concentrate on his strengths ? getting on base, and using his speed, rather than hitting for power and driving in runs himself. He quickly became a huge fan favorite in Chicago, and every stolen base he attempted seemed to bring as much excitement as does an RBI base hit; indeed, the "Podsednik effect" was one of the factors in the White Sox' performance, much commented on, unnerving pitchers who knew they had to watch over their shoulder constantly. He was selected to his first All-Star game in 2005 via the MLB's All-Star Final Vote You think you can argue against this sheer brilliance? He laughs in your face as he steals third base. Third basemen fear for their ankles with his timely slapped groundballs they must charge with reckless abandon. You cannot deny the POSEDNIK EFFECT. FEAR THE SPEED. The Marlins need like 4 Scott Posedniks.
October 25, 200718 yr I think you guys have beaten this horse to death already. You prefer OPS, others prefer "steals and smiles". We get it.

October 25, 200718 yr I think you guys have beaten this horse to death already. You prefer OPS, others prefer "steals and smiles". We get it. ooooh I like that i do agree that marlinslou has a point, no matter how ridiculous it sounds. never cite wiki, its full of bs written by ordinary people who never check their facts. but anyway, we definately need a fast centerfielder who can play some friggin defense and can set the table for the big bats. preferably, someone who can lead off so we can move hanley to the #3 spot (i think he belogs there at least, even though he is more than capable at leadoff). id love a 2003 juan pierre type (although he wasnt the greatest in the field). granderson would be great on our team.
October 25, 200718 yr why does Hanley need to hit in the 3 hole so bad? he's a better "table setter" then we will be able to bring in
October 25, 200718 yr Id rather have a CF who can sustain their OBP ability while they are in a slump BA wise...something Pierre was awful at. And continues to be awful at.
October 25, 200718 yr I think you guys have beaten this horse to death already. You prefer OPS, others prefer "steals and smiles". We get it. Actually people don't. Which is the problem. Using stats confuses them somehow. If being ridiculous is the only level of analysis people can understand, I say it serves the greater good to be ridiculous. Case and point, and I mean no offense. You use prefer. I know you understand this, but this isn't an A or B decision which leads to similar results. A kicks the living crap out of B. A punts B farther than any football that's ever left Darin Erstad's clutch foot. I wish we could all always talk about A, and never ever ever have to ever talk about B, unless it's mocking the Cubs for giving us three 23-24 year old pitchers for the king of all the Bs.

And continues to be awful at. yes that would be ideal. i didnt necessarily mean i want a 2003 pierre carbon copy, just someone who fills the same role he did. hanley is fine in the leadoff spot, i just would rather him hitting third eventually. however, since we dont have another leadoff hitter on our roster, he should continue to hit there for now.

Seriously? they are similar types of players who fill a similar role, thats all i compared them as. of course granderson is better, you missed the point.
October 27, 200718 yr I love Granderson's LHP splits. It's not every day you manage to hit worse than Nick Punto.

October 27, 200718 yr yes, but more importantly, they both were leadoff hitters that set the table with their speed. More importantly, Granderson set the table with 84 extra base hits and didn't run his teams out of innings going 26/27 in SB.
October 28, 200718 yr This is funny...my dad saw Cliffy in costco yesterday by SR84 and University in davie. he spoke to him for a good 5 minutes. my dad said we'd love to have him back and he smiled... blah
