Cliff Floyd would like to rejoin the Marlins as a free agent this winter.

"I would love to come to the Marlins. You know how far we go back," said Floyd, Florida's left fielder from 1997 until July 2002. The soon-to-be 35-year-old Floyd said he would consider retirement unless he's wanted as a starter. The Marlins seem like a poor fit with Jeremy Hermida and Josh Willingham locked into the outfield corners. They could go with Willingham at first base and sign Floyd if they trade Mike Jacobs.

I miss Cliff, I used to see him all the time when I worked at Blockbuster. In the couple of times that I actually talked baseball with him, he seemed sincere in loving this area. The first time I met him I accidently said, 'Why'd you leave?', and he gave me this hurt look and said, "You guys didn't want me, not my fault."

I had a very similar experience at spring training in 2003.

I seriously believe he wanted to stay here (no matter what has been said on this board).

You might have something with Josh b/c of his back troubles but Hermida was playing great towards the strech and nearly hit .300. I doubt Cliff would be seeing anytime in right.

If he wants to be a starter, no thank you. If Uncle Cliffy wants to be the primary power bat off the bench, come on home.

Wasnt he trashing the Marlins a couple years back.... Anyways, off the bench, no problem...

Probably, but he was on the Mets a couple years ago. Divisional rival. Ergo, trash talk.

Also, he saw the fire sale.

hit the nail on the head. cliffy starting for us would be pretty stupid, our defense is bad enough. but off the bench and as an occasional spot start, im all for it. maybe package jacobs and olsen for a willits cf type and put cliffy at first?

Olsen and Jac for a Willits?

no

This was when he left Florida

still doesn't change the fact that he's the man

WHOA! I was leaning toward a Willis and Hermida package for Enrique Wilson, but damn, you hit the nail on the head, DO IT!

Edit: And put cliffy at catcher?

Nah, center-field.

I don't think it makes sense to sign him as a starter, but I would love to have him coming off the bench, particularly with our injury problems.

If he's contimplating retirement unless offered a spot as a starter, we could always have him come in during ST and try and win the job. If the club tells him he's the everyday left fielder by April 1st, he's still got a career. If not, either retire or hope someone else comes along before the season begins and offers you a contract as a starter... No harm, no foul.

I think it had more to do with the ownership considering that he had to deal with their cheap @$$es both here and in Montreal.
