November 1, 200718 yr Please go to baseball.reference.com and look up his comparisons list nobody in that offered trade benefits us enough to give up that type of talent. Some of you view those comparisons like it's the bible or somethign like that. I love baseball-refernce but I think those comparisons are the one useless portion of their website. Hanley Ramirez is a nice player lol....That's all he is right? My friend, put Hanley in the 3 hole and his RBI total jumps up easily over 100, not to mention the 29 HR, the 125 R, the 51 SB, the .332 batting average, 48 doubles, a whole bunch less strikeouts, and a better defender with much more potential to become an above average SS defensively or even better like Alex Gonzalez did. Miguel did not lose all the weight, he weighs 250 lbs, and is woeful as a defensive player. He is an amazing hitter but Hanley's numbers this year were better than Miguel's. Hanley is the future of baseball. He is the Adrian Peterson of MLB. He is the super freak who has all the tools. He is the franchise, he is the all around super star that all teams need. the all around force. He is the next Barry Bonds, minus the roids. He is a potential 40/50 guy, he is the potential .330/40 hr/100+rbi/120+r/50+sb guy who can develop into a very solid defensive SS. Are you really gonna argue that? My friend, I didn't say anything about Hanley. i know dude, the person who posted the comment before you did. he called hanley a "nice player".
November 1, 200718 yr yeah? who contributed to his 29 HR? or his 48 doubles? or his 51 sb? or his .332 batting average? did the guy with the .375 RISP? Was it Miguel's doing? Hanley's amazing season with the bat? And that was Hanley playing with an injured shoulder for a good portion of the year. I wanna know how anyone can possibly argue the numbers that Hanley puts up AS A LEADOFF HITTER!!!!!! He isn't putting up these numbers as a 2, 3, 4, or 5 guy....as a leadoff hitter. Let's take away Hanley and Miguel's average with RISP isn't gonna look the same because chances are he won't someone who gets on base as much as Hanley in front of him. Let's take Hanley out of the equation and Miguel's RBI total drop off a bit. Let's take Cabs out of the equation and Hanley as a leadoff still has the same numbers. Well, he would have significantly less runs, just like Miguel would have significantly less RBI. Maybe, they are linked? Ah f***, I'm feeding the troll, god damnit.
November 1, 200718 yr Gotta love a guy who starts off his post, "Listen friends." You guys are insane if you think the Yankees are going to give up Joba Chamberlain, Ian Kennedy, and Phil Hughes for anyone. That would be like the A's having given up Zito, Mulder, and Hudson for any hitter in the league when the three were Oakland's top prospects. Do you honestly think the Yankees are gonna give up three top tier, Cy Young stuff type pitchers a player who is an amazing hitter.....Miguel Cabrera is an amazing hitter, one of the best (not the best, that would be Albert Pujols), and nothing more. He is slow, overweight and a liability defensively. Let's get serious. And on top of that, you guys wanna throw in Robinson Cano, a proven all star, who has decent speed, decent power, makes great contact with the ball, and plays solid defense. It's like asking for Andre Johnson (proven young star), DaMeco Ryans, Omobi Okoye and Travis Johnson (3 top defensive young players) in return for Willie Parker (a great running back, one of the best, but not the best). You can't ask for the whole team in return for one great player. If the Yankees make that deal, they're left with Wang, Mussina, Pettite (who will most likely retire if they trade their whole staff away), Igawa, and then a guy like Jason Jennings. They would have traded away all their young pitchers. It would be like the Marlins having traded Josh Beckett, Brad Penny, A.J. Burnett and Luis Castillo in 2002 for Manny Ramirez. It's literally the same. Would you have done that? Do you people think we could have come anywhere near a championship in 2003 without Beckett and Penny? Why would the Yankees do that? No one hitter is worth 3 top of the line ace potential starters AND a 2 time all star 25 year old second baseman with the potential to be a 25-30 hr/100 rbi/above .300 hitter every year. I suggested a realistic trade. Not a video game trade. You can't trade the entire Chicago Bulls team for Kobe Bryant...If you do, what do the Bulls become? At the most, an 8 seed, 1st round elimination team. Oh and by the way, I LOOVE how we write off Kei Igawa after one year. We just wrote off a 27 year old pitcher with a lot of talent based a rookie season. Good call there. Kinda like the guy who would have written John Smoltz off for going 2-7 with an ERA of almost 6.00 in his first season, or Johan Santana who went 2-3 with an ERA upwards of 7.00 in his rookie year. Igawa is due 4 million a year for the next 4 seasons. The Yankees would pay 2 million a year for Igawa, and 7 million for the final year of Pavano's deal. Those 2 salaries combined for the Marlins would be 5 million, while Cabrera would be making around 11 million this year. Cano won't make that much, and Chamberlain has a rookie deal, and Betemit makes 405,000 while Bruney also has a rookie deal. Ohlendorf is a potential number 3 or 4 guy in the rotation and also has a rookie deal, so combine each player in this equation and they still don't make more than Miggy will this year. I'm sorry, use your heads people. We all love what Miguel Cabrera has done, but without a stadium in place, nor a deal on the verge of being done, we should sell while his stock is at its peak, and get a good set of players. 2 major league ready high tier prospects, a young perennial all star, a young pitcher with a lot of potential, and a throw in (Pavano). Remember how Mike Lowell was a throw-in in the Beckett deal? Look how that worked out. If the Yankees deal for Cabrera I expect a lot of angry fans on this forum when they see that the Marlins didn't get the entire Yankees starting rotation, Cano, and Melky Cabrera...Hey you might as well throw Matsui in there, and Jeter. Why not? Since we are asking for ridiculously unrealistic amounts of major league talent for one player. Good luck with that. Here is my final and most realistic trade offer I think the Yankees will be willing to make. Miguel Cabrera Ross Wolf for Robinson Cano Chase Wright Joba Chamberlain Kei Igawa (2 of his 4 million dollar salary per year paid by NY) Brian Bruney Carl Pavano (7 million of his 10 million dollar salary paid by NY) Wilson Betemit Cash considerations Seriously, that deal is not only realistic, but so solid for the Marlins. We get 5 pitchers (4 of which are under 28 years old), 2 of which are top prospects, 1 is a hard throwing solid reliever, 1 has potential and talent to be a decent starter in the NL, and 1 is a filler who had great success in his contract year with us. We also get 2 infielders, 1 of which is a top 3 best 2B in the majors right now, and the other is a productive hitter with power and a decent glove. Obviously a young, solid player like Wilson Betemit got overlooked in my last trade proposal. P.S. Allen Iverson got dealt last year for garbage, and he was the top scorer in the NBA at that point. ps iverson wasnt a 24 year old superstar that is on the career path of the homerun king and is one of the top 5 hitters in teh game. And that offer is horrible why would we want igawa who isnt worth his weight and pavano whos now become a broken down pitcher? it doesnt matter how much of the salary the yankees pick up yeah, you're right, why would we want a guy who 2 years ago won 18 games. just like...why would the red sox want mike lowell in the beckett deal after hitting a truly awful .236 with 8 HR and 58 RBI? That was a mistake to take a chance on a veteran who had an off year. He didn't just win WS MVP after a spectacular season. And I seriously find all of you ridiculous for completely writing off Igawa after a rough MLB ROOKIE season!!!!! Johan Santana, 2-3, ERA in the 7.00s his rookie year, Smoltz's rookie year he was roughed up pretty good, Danny Haren too. I could go on and on naming all star, even Cy Young starters who were roughed up in their first season. But yeah, let's write Igawa off already. i think the main part of that statement would be 18 games 2 YEARS AGO..this is a what have you done for me lately business...what has he done since? pitched in 19 games over 2 years. it might be worth to find out whether another round in fla could revive his career but not at the expense of miguel cabrera. and as far as igawa i along with a lot of people is ready to write him off because he only had one dominant year in japan and wasnt even considered servicable and at this age should not have problems throwing strikes.
November 1, 200718 yr Is it now a forgone conclusion that Miggy is good as gone if not this year before the start of the 09 season? Sure does sound like it and it sucks big Cartman balls.

November 1, 200718 yr I don't think anyone is doubting the awesomeness of either player well, someone alluded to hanley just being a "nice player" and that miguel is the true top star on the team. miguel is a great hitter, an amazing hitter, a top 5 in the game hitter. not the best, those are albert pujols, alex rodriguez, vlad guerrero, then cabs, holliday, manny, david ortiz, hanley, ichiro, chipper jones, etc. of all those, the most complete offensive players are a-rod, vlad and hanley. who do it all...power, average and can steal. i think miguel cabrera is an amazing hitter and and we have been fortunate to get to have him on our team for this long. he has been an offensive force in a picher's haven. He has everyone in baseball talking, but Hanley is the future of baseball. The Hanley model of player. The Chris Young, the Matt Kemp, the Hanley Ramirez...they are the Barry Bonds type players...the overall, complete, superstar, franchise players that everyone team would die for. And yeah....losing Miguel's bat is a big loss, but if we can get a guy like Cano, move Hanley into the 3 spot, rely on guys like Hermida, Uggla and Willingham, and get some good pitching prospects....then i'm all for it. look at all the offense we had last year, look where it got us...without pitching we get nowhere.
November 1, 200718 yr Peter Gammons reiterated on this today in his ESPN blog. Cabrera deal is a possibility posted: Thursday, November 1, 2007 | Print Entry filed under: Florida Marlins While the free-agent markets for Alex Rodriguez and Mike Lowell promise to spin upward and onward, industry sources say that clubs have been notified there is another major bat and third baseman on the market -- Florida's Miguel Cabrera. At the age of 20, Cabrera hit three homers in the NLCS against the Cubs in 2003; then in the World Series, he was dusted by Roger Clemens, got up and drove a home run to right-center field. With their immediate economic situation unsettled because of uncertainty surrounding a new stadium, the Marlins have no choice but to market the 24-year old superstar, who is two years from free agency and will be on the free-agent market before owner Jefferey Loria can move into that ballpark. According to sources, the asking price will be enormously steep, but why not? While there have been some defensive issues for Cabrera at third base, he ranks as one of the most powerful and productive infield corner bats in the game. Trading for a 24-year-old middle- of-the-order third/first baseman should bring Florida at least three significant young players. Remember, when the Marlins had to trade Josh Beckett under similar circumstances, they targeted and received Hanley Ramirez, who in two years has blossomed into one of the game's premier stars. The Yankees, who may lose Rodriguez, will certainly be in, but they would have to include Phil Hughes, which is unlikely. The Red Sox, who may lose Lowell, will likely be in as well, but they will have to start with right-hander Clay Buchholz. The Dodgers, who need a middle-of-the-order bat, would seem to have the most to offer with left-hander Clayton Kershaw, left-hander Scott Elbert, right-handed reliever Jonathan Meloan and third baseman Andy LaRoche. The Angels also have a cornucopia of prospects, if they are not in the A-Rod sweepstakes. It's going to take more than a couple of top tier prospects, one of whom already had a history of shoulder surgery, for the Yankees to bring in Cabrera. The Marlins need to target a "now" name, not a two years from now name.

Steals = amazingly overrated. By most offensive metrics Miguel still had a better year than Hanley. They are both amazing, we are lucky to have both. If we have to trade one, I say Miguel will get us more, so I'd rather trade him, as long as we get equal value (your trade is nowhere near equal value) and sign the other long term.

November 1, 200718 yr I will say this, when Cabrera shed that weight he got much better defensively. You don't waste his arm at first base.

But yeah, let's write Igawa off already. i think the main part of that statement would be 18 games 2 YEARS AGO..this is a what have you done for me lately business...what has he done since? pitched in 19 games over 2 years. it might be worth to find out whether another round in fla could revive his career but not at the expense of miguel cabrera. and as far as igawa i along with a lot of people is ready to write him off because he only had one dominant year in japan and wasnt even considered servicable and at this age should not have problems throwing strikes. wow...u really don't read what i'm saying. yes, 2 years ago he won 18 games...last year peavy had an off year, a rough year...and look what he comes back and does...carlos pena was absolutely nowhere, and a nobody before this season. and i am in no way saying to take a risk on pavano at the expense of miguel cabrera. that's the most ridiculous thing i have ever read. i never said that...i said Pavano is a FILLER in the trade because the yankees wanna get rid of him. why the hell not take him as a filler? the main players in the trade were cano, chamberlain, wright, tabata (that's 3 pitching prospects and a 2 time all star who is 25), then igawa and pavano at a fraction of the cost of their contracts.....as fillers, along with betemit and brian bruney. to think that the yankees would be stupid enough to give up hughes, chamberlain and kennedy for any one player is ridiculous. it's utterly ridiculous. if i were the yankees and the marlins offered me an amazing hitter who is an absolute defensive liability and will be playing first base for them within the year.....for 3 top end, ace potential starters.....would u make that trade? i would seriously hope not. now would u trade an 2 ace prospects, a top 3 2b, a potential 2 or 3 starter in wright, and 4 fillers for miguel? i don't see how from both sides, that doesn't make more sense. no i read what you said....i just think that i would rather try and get two more prospects out of their system as fillers....than a fragile pitcher and a so so japanese pitcher that cant throw strikes...i dont see how adding either of them even as fillers would do anything but hurt...plus its not like we could spin them off in another deal because guess what nobody wants them!!!
November 1, 200718 yr Report: Marlins putting Cabrera on the market Sources tell ESPN's Peter Gammons that Miguel Cabrera will be available on the trade market this winter. With the Yankees and Red Sox both in need of a third baseman and the Dodgers, Angels, Phillies and Giants all willing to consider upgrades, the Marlins may figure this is their best chance for getting maximum value for Cabrera, who is two years away from free agency. The problem is that, with his weight up, Cabrera's defense has gone from mediocre to truly bad, and he'd make more sense as a first baseman right now. Both the Yankees and Red Sox have possibilities there as well, but they might not be willing to surrender as much talent to fill a hole that is easier plugged. Nov. 1 - 1:45 pm
November 1, 200718 yr I seriously would have to consider my loyalty to the Marlins if this happens....I took Sheff, Edgar, Josh, Lowell....I can't take this, I just can't.
November 1, 200718 yr I think the bigger question is What is the Yankees affinity with Ross Wolf? Is Wolf the new Andino?
November 1, 200718 yr I think the bigger question is What is the Yankees affinity with Ross Wolf? Is Wolf the new Andino? well according to whoever put up that proposed trade hes probably just a filler
November 1, 200718 yr I think the bigger question is What is the Yankees affinity with Ross Wolf? Is Wolf the new Andino? You beat me to it. But, there is NO WAY the Yankees would take the albatross that is Miguel Cabrera without being allowed the rights to Ross Wolf.

Yeah, honestly, I'd be done. Thats what its all about. You can walk from the DRays parking lot to get chicken wings before and after the game, its pretty sweet.

Yeah, honestly, I'd be done. why would trading cabrera disappoint/upset anyone? shouldnt we all be prepaired for this one given the franchise history? i dont think this should be anything groundbreaking or shocking....i dont want it to happen either but if it does that doesnt mean i become less of a fan
