October 30, 200718 yr am I the only one who isn't ga-ga over Melky? no. I'd much rather have tabata if this were to happen, which it better not...
October 30, 200718 yr yanks get cabs marlins get stadium fair trade imo - do it beinfest. seriously, the marlins should hold a dice-k auction just to submit offers, and then another one to get miggy's services. we could get $100 mil from the yanks. that outta cover stadium funding gaps. i know mlb has rules against this kind of stuff, but i actually think the exact rule is that trades involving a certain amount of $$ have to receive commish approval. i think selig would probably allow it to happen in the best interest of the game. joking...but not really.
October 30, 200718 yr You trade Cabs you lose the primary incentive to come watch baseball in the first place so this ideology perplexes me.
October 30, 200718 yr I might do Hughes, Tabata, Chamberlain, Cabrera, and Cash, nothing less. It won'thappen, hes untradable.
October 30, 200718 yr Yankees get: Miguel Marlins get: A-Rod, Wang, Hughes, Joba, Melky, Cano, Posada, $8,000,000,000 and New Yankee Stadium. (Built down here of course) NOW I'll do it.
October 30, 200718 yr you think they can bring Babe Ruth back because we would have to be Nuts to deal miggie away at 24 with 138 homers and a 3oo plus batting avrg. Can we get Stienberner to be the owner then i would do the trade.
October 30, 200718 yr am I the only one who isn't ga-ga over Melky? I personally don't care for Melky... But he's servicable. I'd demand Robinson Cano in any deal involving Cabrera. Probably Huges, too.

October 30, 200718 yr We should ask for Mariano Rivera, Joba Chamberlain, Melky Cabrera and Robinson Cano.
October 30, 200718 yr This is just typical Yankee fans talking out of their asses. They need a 3rd baseman, Cabrera is a 3rd baseman, and based on that they think they can trade for him.
October 30, 200718 yr We should ask for Mariano Rivera, Joba Chamberlain, Melky Cabrera and Robinson Cano. Rivera is a free agent and Melky is worse than Cody Ross at this point

October 30, 200718 yr Yankees get: Miguel Cabrera Marlins get: Joba Chamberlain, Phil Hughes, Robinson Cano, The Statue of Liberty, The Empire State Building, Yankee Stadium (new one), and George Steinbrenner.
October 30, 200718 yr I don't believe this rumor. It's garbage. BUT, if there were any truth to it, I'd doubt Joba would be involved considering Rivera is all but gone. Joba is the future closer and, w/ Rivera all but saying that he's gone if Torre goes, I don't think he'd be involved in a package. As for getting rid of Cabrera, I'd hate to be the bearer of bad news, but lets try not to get too endeared w/ him. Any deal for Cabrera is going to be viewed w/ a bit of bitterness. But the fact is, he is soon out of our reach financially, so lets start discussing some real possibilities. As for Cano, I love him as a player. But I don't see the need for him to come here. We have Uggla, who, for the price, he is doing a fine job. We need SP and a CF. Which teams out there can fill this need? Dodgers? Angels? Yanks? Anybody I'm missing?

I would hope that Marlins management has enough brains to turn down any Yankee package that doesn't include Chamberlain. I mean, come on, you're giving up a sure-fire stud in Cabrera who has a pretty good shot at having a hall of fame career for a couple of guys who have proven NOTHING? I'd expect nothing less than getting anywhere from 3-5 top notch prospects for Cabrera, because thats what he is worth, and nothing less. As for Cano, he could play 2nd and Uggla could easily be moved to 3rd base.
October 30, 200718 yr I don't agree w/ Uggla "easily" moving to third. Second and 3B are two different monsters. But I guess your right. That is always an option.
October 30, 200718 yr This is just typical Yankee fans talking out of their asses. They need a 3rd baseman, Cabrera is a 3rd baseman, and based on that they think they can trade for him. Bingo. The only way this even gets off the ground is if Chamberlain is included.

The only way this even gets off the ground is if Chamberlain is included. Listen friends, some of these trade demands are absolutely absurd. The Yankees have been asked over and over about Melky Cabrera and even moreso about Robinson Cano. Each time they are asked, they say both guys are off limits. While I do agree with some people on here when it is said that Melky is not that big of a deal, I Find Robinson Cano to be a fast rising star who can be a superstar, and even a franchise, much like a Miguel Cabrera. Look at his numbers! In his second major league season, he hit .342/15 hr/78 rbi, and last year, after slumping the first month or so, he ended the year hitting .306/19 hr/93rbi/97 r. That's solid production. He has decent speed and is a solid defensive player. I would love to have a guy like Cano. Now that being said, it is necessary that Robinson Cano be the keystone piece in any Cabrera deal to the Yankees. The main problem with most of the posts on here is how much people think the Yankees will give up for Cabrera. The Yankees may part with Cano, Joba Chamberlain, Kei Igawa, Wilson Betemit, and either Edwar Ramirez or Ross Ohlendorf. Personally the deal I would put together right away to offer the Yanks would be Miguel Cabrera, Ross Wolf and Kevin Gregg (the Yankees may need insurance in case Rivera doesn't sign with them) for Robinson Cano, Joba Chamberlain, Wilson Betemit, Kei Igawa, Ross Ohlendorf, Carl Pavano (the Yankees paying 7 million of the 10 million per year owed to him for the remainder of his contract) and Brian Bruney. The deal is fair for both sides. The Yankees fill the need left behind by A-Rod with Cabrera, get rid of Carl Pavano and get some insurance in Kevin Gregg if Rivera signs elsewhere. The Marlins benefit because they now have Robinson Cano, Joba Chamberlain as cornerstones for the franchise, Wilson Betemit to be a solid platoon with Jacobs at first, Bruney as a solid setup guy, and Ross Ohlendorf, Kei Igawa and Carl Pavano entering into the mix for rotation spots. These moves open up several options for the team. You move Dan Uggla over to 3B, to complete the infield of Jacobs/Betemit, Cano, Ramirez, and Uggla. The next moves to be made include signing a catcher (sign Jason Kendall or Michael Barrett to a one year deal), resign Aaron Boone or sign a vet like Adam Everett, or Jeff Cirillo to a one year deal (to add the Wes Helms/Aaron Boone presence), then do our best to acquire Scott Podsednik to shore up the outfield. This would leave our lineup looking like this: CF. Scott Podsednik 2B. Robinson Cano SS. Hanley Ramirez LF. Josh Willingham RF. Jeremy Hermida 3B. Dan Uggla 1B. Mike Jacobs/Wilson Betemit C. Jason Kendall or Michael Barrett P. Our pitchers would then include: Dontrelle Willis, Sergio Mitre, Scott Olsen, Joba Chamberlain, Carl Pavano, Kei Igawa, Ross Ohlendorf, Brian Bruney, Ricky Nolasco, Henry Owens, Taylor Tankersly, Matt Lindstrom, Lee Gardner, Justin Miller, Renyel Pinto, Carlos Martinez, Logan Kensing, Rick Vanden Hurk, Gaby Hernandez, Chris Volstad, Anibal Sanchez and Josh Johnson (when they return from their respective injuries) and Brett Sinkbell (when he's ready hopefully by the All Star break). The Marlins could also look to sign another veteran like Joe Kennedy, Jason Jennings, Matt Clement, Casey Fossum, Kip Wells, Jaret Wright, Eddie Guardado, Ray King or Al Reyes. Signing another veteran would be unecessary though with the acquisition of Pavano. Thus, our pitching staff has the potential to look like this. SP. Dontrelle Willis SP. Sergio Mitre SP. Scott Olsen SP. Carl Pavano SP. Joba Chamberlain/Rick Vanden Hurk/Kei Igawa/Ricky Nolasco/Gaby Hernandez/Ross Ohlendorf/Chris Volstad CL. Henry Owens, Matt Lindstrom or Joba Chamberlain (if they decide to keep him in the end of the game scenario, though I think he would be better served as a starter) SU. Taylor Tankersly, Matt Lindstrom, Brian Bruney MR. Lee Gardner, Justin Miller, Logan Kensing, Ricky Nolasco, Carlos Martinez LR. Renyel Pinto, Kei Igawa, Rick Vanden Hurk, Ross Ohlendorf and either Pavano and/ or the 5th starter could be relegated to the pen when Johnson and Sanchez are ready to go (and with this many possibilities the Marlins could really give both guys ample time to truly rehabilitate and be ready to contribute). Also, if the Marlins are out of it by the break, then a Pavano, Nolasco, or Igawa become solid trade options. Lee Gardner had an amazing year, but he doesn't have overpowering stuff and may be a flash in the pan, we'll see. But overall, if this team could stay healthy, I think they would be very much in contention for a serious playoff run. Another big issue would be the pitching coach. Mark Wiley would be a very good option, but if I were the Marlins, I would shell out the cash to get Leo Mazzone here by any means possible. The work he has done in the past with the Atlanta staff. He has molded so many pitchers with raw talent into superstars. Even in Baltimore, look at how far Erik Bedard has come under Mazzone, look at Jeremy Guthrie. He knows how to develop pitchers. All in all, I think if we can at least get Chamberlain, Cano, Betemit, Igawa and Pavano as a throw in, it would really benefit the team overall. It would open up a bit more salary, it would really help the pitching staff. Imagine a rotation of Willis, Johnson, Olsen, Chamberlain and Sanchez with a bullpen of Igawa, Mitre, Nolasco, Tankersly, Owens, Lindstrom, Pinto, Vanden Hurk, and others. Hey we could even deal Willis and Jacobs AFTER the 2008 season (which I think he will have a better year with a coach like Wiley who will most likely return to the team) for a solid, big bat position player such as a catcher or left fielder (and move Willingham to 1B). Our staff could then consist of Johnson, Olsen, Sanchez, Chamberlain, Volstad or Hernandez. I truly think this trade (should we get these players in return) would make this team a much more dangerous team to enter the playoff hunt in 2008.
November 1, 200718 yr Kei Igawa is garbage and is owed $16mil over the next 4 season. And even paying Pavano $3mil would be retarded. If we trade Cabrera, he's not going to end up in the Bronx unless the deal in centered around Joba, Kennedy and Cano (add Hughes if you want to subtract Kennedy or Joba). And if Cabs is going to be moved, the rest of the 29 teams will all throw offers our way anyway and Uggla isn't a 3b option, imo
November 1, 200718 yr I thought, even though there are flaws in it, a couple of which are pointed out above, it was an interesting read and over all a good post.
