December 15, 200718 yr The East-West MetroRail line won't be built for another 20 years at the earliest. Which is a damn shame. The only hope for a mass transit connection (that isn't via bus) to a ballpark at the OB would be the street car and that's just my speculation. You would like think (or hope) that the City and County know that getting to the ballpark 81 nights a year is going to be tough and that they'll try to build the stadium and street car around the same time frame. Atleast that is would we would all like to think...
December 16, 200718 yr Miami in line for new MLS team Miami's diversity could help it land an MLS team to a new stadium at the site of the Orange Bowl -- but it would not be before 2010. how their going fix both stadium in same site of OB??? their donot say that marlins ballpark will be use for soccer

December 16, 200718 yr The marlins should push to allow the land where the OB is to be used for parking, that would be enough i say. 6000 is not enough
December 16, 200718 yr All that said none of the money pledged to the stadium BY LAW can't be used for any other purpose that building professional sports franchise venues. In fact the voters of Miami-Dade already voted on it and said so. Can't use it for school books or affordable housing or new roads regardless of what anyone tells you or what you see on TV. i bet doing next vote next thur if i heard right their going some vote no by county commissioners i donot know how many vote needed to pass it i remember last year when county commissioners voted for money for marlins their few no vote like rolle and other feel money could us in their area According to the Miami Herald article yesterday, they have confirmed that there are at least 7 of the 13 members in favor of the plan. That is already a majority. Furthermore, only 1 out the 10 commissioners that were spoken to Katy Sorenson was a sure no vote. I think those are pretty good odds. :mischief Sorry, I couldn't help myself. They made her saying no....but that's ok.
December 16, 200718 yr The marlins should push to allow the land where the OB is to be used for parking, that would be enough i say. 6000 is not enough Tropicana Field only has around 7500 parking spots on-site and it is enough. 5/8th of a mile is close enough to walk. As long as it is real parking and not Jose's front lawn....I have no concerns.
December 16, 200718 yr 6000 car parking garage is a very good start considering that VIP and employee parking will be on site as well. I am sure some private parking will sprout up as well. This really eased a few of my concerns on the OB site. They should be no lawn parking needed for the Marlin Staduim. If some of you remember, i have been one of the biggest critics of the OB site, if a parking garage is planned as it is mentioned the site becomes much more viable...Now if it weren't for the traffic outlet?

As long as it is real parking and not Jose's front lawn....I have no concerns. But the Devil Rays have no fans. Isn't the point of building a new stadium to draw 25 to 30K fans per game? I would say the average car will bring 2.5 people to the game. 6000 * 2.5 = 15,000 fans. The 250 VIP spots are probably 1.5 people per car, 250 * 1.5 = 375 fans. Where do the other 10,000 to 15,000 fans park? Everything about the OB site is just god awful. It has horrendous access from Broward and Palm Beach, there's nothing to do in the area and little possibility for economic development, there are very few office buildings, and it's MORE EXPENSIVE. And apparently there isn't adequate parking. OB site gets worse and worse every time I think about it. Yes I'd prefer OB to San Antonio, but I don't think that choice really exists, as the only negative to downtown was that it supposedly cost more. Well, it costs less. Why can't we switch to downtown where the team will actually be successful?

Within 5/8th of a mile you will have yet another 12,000 city designated spots likely with car-to-gate bus/trolley service.
December 17, 200718 yr ....as the only negative to downtown was that it supposedly cost more. Well, it costs less. Why can't we switch to downtown where the team will actually be successful? It doesn't necessarily cost less. While the two sites have a different "final price" ($495M vs. $525M), you're not looking at why there is a difference and why the City/County are looking at the OB instead of GC (Government Center). The price differential is based on (1) the fact that the OB site allows for a 29 month construction schedule, the GC site required a 34 month schedule. Then there is the fact that there is a funding source available at the OB site that is unavailable at the GC site - approved bond money that was slated for OB repairs that can re-allocated to a park there, but cannot be re-allocated to a GC site. And if you seriously think that access for Broward and Palm Beach people is easier at a GC site than it is for an OB site, then you really never drive in Miami-Dade County. For starters, the GC site would have been about 9 acres, the OB site is 40 acres. I can already hear Earl from Cooper City and Biff from Boca already complaining about having to park at Bayside or in a parking garage about 1.5 miles from a GC park because there was no on-site parking (I can also already hear Earl from Cooper City or Biff from Boca complaining over probably having to walk that distance and shudder the thought over having to see people that "didn't look" like them!). A Palm Beach/Broward person (and I'm one of them, I live in Central Palm Beach County) would still have to drive down the same stretch of I-95 to get to either a GC or an OB site. The difference would be going west on 836 for a total of ONE FREAKIN' EXIT (NW 17 ST), or going south ONE MORE FREAKIN' EXIT to the NW 8 ST exit and then having to drive all over downtown to find an "off-site" parking space. But I won't care about that, because I'll be riding in on the train from the west like I used to do when I went to Dolphins games at the OB (back in the day when the Dolphins really mattered!) The OB site can provide 6,000 spaces in a garage and the rest within 5/8 of a mile. Do you want to know what 5/8 of a mile is in familiar terms? That the distance from the westernmost parking at Dolphin Stadium to the easternmost parking at Dolphin Stadium. The park is not happening downtown, so why don't you just quit crying about something that is not going to happen and just accept it that the park may ACTUALLY get built somewhere that isn't San Antonio, Portland, East Rutherford, Charlotte, Oklahoma City, or Monterrey! If you don't like it, then don't go. That will mean more room for me there....
