October 23, 200322 yr Who do you guys think is going to pitch on game 6? Redman has been horrible in his last two outings. Pavano and Penny are obviously out, so it comes down to either willis or beckett. I would hope jack keeps beckett for a possible game 7. At the same time, willis has been struggling lately...any opinions? GO FISHH!!!

October 23, 200322 yr IMHO, I would pitch Beckett on three days rest.... and in Game 7, I would pitch Pavano on three days rest......they have the hot hands right now. Gotta go with them.
October 23, 200322 yr I'd throw out Helling in Game 6 Depending on if we win tonight (of course we'll win tonight !!!) the thought had crossed my mind as well. Helling, pitched against the Yanks all season, he knows them, he's mature, while it's a longshot, I wouldn't put anything past Jack.
October 23, 200322 yr Marlins are 0-1 on my birthday (October 25th), let's hope they can be 1-1 by the end of the World Series.
October 23, 200322 yr If we win tonight, 6 - Willis/Redman. Lefthanded pitcher for their extra lefty in the lineup. Beckett/Pavano if in trouble. 7- Beckett/Pavano If we don't, 6 - Beckett 7 - Pavano
October 23, 200322 yr Normally I would be against bringing back a starter on short rest, even in the NLDS or the NLCS. And maybe if it was Wells, Clemmens, hell even Mussina starting Game 6 we would keep the rest pattern. BUT It is Petitte. And if we win tonight, we have a chance to put them away and I think we have to take it. If we lose we need the W to force Game 7. Pavs pitching Game 7 on short rest wouldn't be too bad. You figure everyone except Beckett would be available, meaning Penny, Willis, or Redman could show up anytime this weekend to put out a fire.
October 23, 200322 yr Not desperation if we win tonight so no Josh in Game 6. McKeon would be second guessed for life if it failed.
October 23, 200322 yr McKeon would be second guessed for life if it failed. [/b Reading this forum, he already is and there are less than 3 games to go!
October 23, 200322 yr I hope its not Redman. What about putting Brad Penny? He dominated the Yanks in Game 1.
October 23, 200322 yr I hope its not Redman. What about putting Brad Penny? He dominated the Yanks in Game 1. Penny is pitching tonight.
October 23, 200322 yr Oh ok...I dont want to go with Redman. He has been pitching super bad this Postseason. Can we start Helling or Willis? I would rather any of them pitch and the if they struggle we have no choice but to put Redman.
October 23, 200322 yr Guys, if we win tonight, there's no way you'll se Beckett pitch Game 6. If we lose there's a chance, but I don't know if I would do it. The only reason would be to get Pavano in as well, but I think having someone go on 4 days rest in Game 6, and then Beckett on 4 days in Game 7 gives us a better chance than Pavano and Beckett on 3 days. Past few years, pitchers are 4-16 on 3 days rest in the playoffs...at least heading into this postseason. And that's the top pitchers, too. Managers don't rush crappy starters. Winning tonight makes this a very easy decision.
October 23, 200322 yr I say if we win tonight Willis will go game 6. If We lose then Beckett goes game 6.
October 23, 200322 yr Actually, my thought is this: No matter what happens tonight, we should just send out a 3-headed monster for Game 6. Willis/Heiling/Redman. One of them starts, but only in name. Let Willis go out there first. If he has it, great...if not, it'll be immediately obvious, as it always is...quick hook, bring Redman or Heiling in. Same thing for whoever comes in. ONE of those guys should be able to get the job done. Save Beckett for a Game 7. You can also have Pavano pitch out of the pen both nights.
October 23, 200322 yr Yes, you can't have a game 7 starter unless you make it to game 7. If the Marlins win game 5 they may be able to gamble on the extra day of rest for Beckett, but I wouldn't count on it. McKeon has shown he tends to stay in the "right now". I look for Beckett to start game 6.
October 23, 200322 yr Not desperation if we win tonight so no Josh in Game 6. McKeon would be second guessed for life if it failed. When you're 72 it isn't all that long anyway. He makes moves to win NOW. I'll bet Beckett starts game 6
