if Conine plays 1st they might have to go out and get someone to play LF through FA or a trade.

But wouldn't it just be easier to give Lowell the same contract you would give Rodriguez, and instead of signing another Todd Hollandsworth-like FA for $1.5 Mill to play LF, you put Cabs in LF and start Castro at catcher for $600K? I mean, there's no question Ramon will be just as or more productive than a low-caliber FA OFer IMO, and it even saves you money.

you could find someone relatively cheap...

Rondell White, Reggie Sanders, Carl Everett, Jose Guillen, Jeromy Burnitz, Matt Stairs, Raul Ibanez

but im not too worried.

Stairs is probably the only guy you listed that will cost less than $2 Mill.

:lol and i will say it again...

We're assuming he is not guilty.

"Wild Card Logic" :lol ok listen up, Pudge ISNT just a player. he means more to this team then any stat can tell you and since the goal of the organization is to build a fan base and get a stadium why would you not make every effort to keep your most loved and BEST player?

Thank you Cyberlina for making my post clear - that is exactly what I meant. I would like to keep Lowell, but I think if it came down to Pudge or Mike, Mike is a gonner. That is what I HOPE would happen, anyway. I'm totally with you on that one. Pudge has been the heartbeat that got us where we are right now. Lowell is great, but we have Miggy for 3rd base. If Pudge goes, we lose a LOT at the catcher position as neither of the other even comes close to the Pudgester.

None of us know what will happen. We can only speculate. That is fun for us since we lay our heads on the pillow every night with NO stress about making team-altering decisions. This is the fun part where we get to be "pretend managers" and so on......

GO MARLINS! Win Game 6!!!!!!!!! (PLEASE?????????)

what if he's not aqquited and we let Rodergiuez go? its a big risk.

Cabs has shown that he can play and he's not facing charges. you have to take that into consideration.

It makes just as much sense to save as much money as possible, which enables you to save as many key pitchers as possible, which could very possibly help you win more than you would have keeping Pudge and losing several key players. Not only that, but Castro could be a very productive player. You might not even lose that much offense in switching Ramon and Pudge, IMO.

Wild Card = WRONG!

seriously sometimes it isnt about payroll, do you honestly believe our pitchers will "improve" with Castro starting the majority of games next year? pudge makes a difference more ways then we will ever know...

I beg to differ.

Have you ever seen Castro's stats in AAA as a starter (and that was a few years ago-- imagine what he could do now)?

Are you aware that in 600 AB's this year, he would have been on pace to hit 60 home runs?

If we keep Pudge, we might not be able to keep some of those pitchers in the first place.

but the pitchers we DO have will be better WITH him...

So what, are you saying that their stuff is better if a certain catcher is behind the plate? They aren't better pitchers because of him. It's not like he calls the game, because like Josh Beckett once said, "He doesn't call the game, I do. If I want something else, I'll shake it off and throw what I want to." or something along those lines.

To keep Lowell and let Pudge go just makes more sense. Money wise and production wise, it makes more sense.

i thought you knew better, catchers DO improve pitchers. i like Castro too but if i had any way of keeping a gold glove, hall of famer, fan favorite and most important pitcher/coach favorite player you MUST do it. this team does not make it to the playoffs without him and you know it...

this team does not make it to the playoffs without him and you know it...

Why not?

Without him, you have a solidified bullpen instead of a shaky one (we both know you win with pitching more than offense). Without him, you have a . 280, 30+ HR, 100+ RBI, gold glove third baseman (who is also very clutch, and IS the captain of this team. NOT Pudge). Without him, you give Ramon Castro a starting job, a guy that could VERY possibly be just as productive on offense as Pudge was (from a numbers standpoint, including RISP AVG.) this season. Without him, you don't have a shaky player at any spot on the field.

AAA does NOT equal the show. Plain and simple. Castro is not a proven hitter at this level yet, and while I think he shows great potential, I wouldn't go proclaiming that he will put up great numbers because he did in AAA.

How many AAA great hitters can't make it at the major league level? Plenty.

Keep Pudge!!!!!!! That is my first move as "pretend manager and owner"

Are you aware that in 600 AB's this year, he would have been on pace to hit 60 home runs?

Well Sea Bass was on pace to hit about 35 HR's and bat around .320 the first month of the season....look what he finished.

the more you play, the more your numbers drop, sometimes a little sometime a lot....it's just natural

How many AAA catchers can say they were groomed by Charles Johnson and Ivan Rodriguez?

Not only that, but I think he proved himself offensively this year somewhat, and in the role of being a rare pinch-hitter, and a rare starter.

I mean, it's not like I'm proposing we bring up a AAA catcher that has never had a major league at-bat. Castro has been in the major leagues for years now, and with the likes of CJ and Pudge showing him the ropes.

\the more you play, the more your numbers drop

That's the stupidist thing I've ever heard. my POINT is if you have 30 AB's in a season you have a MUCH MUCH MUCH better chance at having a higher average than 600 AB's

if you dont understand THAT, than i'll put it straight out, theres no way he could've kept a pace for a 60 HR season

no way

Pierre - back till 05

I think he needs a million year extension :D

And I'm with Ramp, lets get that collection box circling around the city so we can sign Vlad The Impaler.....

Pudge and Mikey are equally important to this team, and both are pretty much in love with this city. Pudge's family refuses to move again, so that will probably help alot, and Mike is just a Miami kind of guy.

You have to also rap up every single pitcher on this staff. Every single one (Including AJ, people forget he is either an FA or arbitration eligble). And Pudge. And Mikey. And get ready to break the bank on Cabrera in a couple of years. And, you could always go after a certain FA RF.....

And that might mean losing 1 or 2 of the following: Luiy, DLee, Enc. It is going to be tough, and as much as I like him and have defended him during the year, Enc would probably be the first one of the three gone. Luiy is just too valuable sandwiched between Juanpy and Pudge, and DLee's defense is second to absolutely no one (plus he can ocassionally hit). Enc is underrated severly and is an RBI machine, but sadly he would probably be the first cut. Then of course, it will be soon forgotten if we end up switching him for another Dominican.....

josh....

stop. castro will not put up the numbers you are dreaming of.

the potential replacement at third is much greater than the replacement at catcher.

wake up.

its easier to find a quality outfielder than it is to find a quality catcher.

castro hasnt proven jack....there is a reason he has played so little in his time with the marlins......

what reason might that be?
