October 25, 200322 yr josh.... stop. castro will not put up the numbers you are dreaming of. He can't put up . 280+, 20+ HR's, 80+ RBI? C'mon now... the potential replacement at third is much greater than the replacement at catcher. Technically it's a replacement at LF, because Cabrera would move to 3B. And I'd rather have Castro at catcher, Lowell at third and Cabs in left, than Pudge catching, Cabs playing third, and some no-name cheap Hollandsworth-like LFer. its easier to find a quality outfielder than it is to find a quality catcher. The thing is, we don't need to find a quality catcher, because Castro is it. And you can't get a quality LFer for $2Mill or less, unless he's 20 (I think TH proved this point for us this year). To finish, bottom line: Do you want a guy who hits 30 home runs, or 15? Do you want a guy that hits 110 RBI, or 85? And don't even say you want Pudge because of the RISP, seeing that Lowell also bats over . 300 with runners in scoring position. He also plays gold glove defense. For the same price, I want Lowell. Not just because he offers us more production, but because he offers more options.
October 25, 200322 yr say Castro hits 10homers in April with 25rbi and we are looking great.... AND THEN he gets sent off to jail for 3 years.... again in my world, most will be back+some new faces
October 25, 200322 yr say Castro hits 10homers in April with 25rbi and we are looking great.... AND THEN he gets sent off to jail for 3 years.... again in my world, most will be back+some new faces Say he is innocent, and he has that same April. Then what?
October 25, 200322 yr say castro playing full time in MLB hits .200 with 1 home run and 9 rbis in april... what then? at what point has castro proven he can play everyday in MLB? question
October 25, 200322 yr at what point has castro proven he can play everyday in MLB? question Well, I don't see his health getting in the way, sitting on the bench for three years and all. But he had no problem starting everyday in the minors, why would he now?
October 25, 200322 yr minors majors. there are many 4A players out there. again when has Ramon Castro ever proven he can play everyday in MLB? This has nothing to do with health but production. The stupidest stat ever is trying to project what a part time player would do in a full time situation. The Marlins only used Castro when it was advantageous to him and he could produce. You dont have that luxury if he is your top catcher. And also...why has he never played much in the majors? Is it really because of depth?
October 25, 200322 yr the thing that worries me most is the fact that Castro is facing charges. if we dont resign Pudge and Castro gets new roomates named Big Daddy or Bubba we are screwed. also about Castro, ive actually heard people refer to him as a AAAA player because his failure to produce in the past despite his AAA #'s. a few homeruns off the bench doesnt mean that your going to be great everyday player. the thing that worries me about pudge, i said this earlier this season is that he's been catching for i believe 11-12 years, his in his 30's and has had injury problems the last few years. but this year he looked great. hopefully it'll stay that way
October 25, 200322 yr minors majors. there are many 4A players out there. Das is one of those people now
October 25, 200322 yr i dont know what castro can do..... its like throwing dice...you dont know what you will get... surely if castro was 'that' good...he would get more than an at bat every week or so here and there... especially last year once CJ was essentially benched.
October 25, 200322 yr again when has Ramon Castro ever proven he can play everyday in MLB? This has nothing to do with health but production. Do you really, honestly think he won't produce, or are you just arguing for the sake of arguing? And also...why has he never played much in the majors? Is it really because of depth? Let's see, the guys that have started over him are Charles Johnson and Ivan Rodriguez, so I think it's safe to say it's because of depth. If he's so bad, why were the Padres pushing so hard for him? And don't tell me it's because they're a bad team and they want to save money blah blah blah, because they're expected to be a winner real damn soon. And isn't it funny how they wanted Castro instead of pushing for, let's say, Pudge in the off-season?
October 25, 200322 yr Let's see, the guys that have started over him are Charles Johnson and Ivan Rodriguez, so I think it's safe to say it's because of depth. here's another question: why spend money on Pudge in the 1st place this past January when we have Castro? that move might say a lot about how they feel about Castro, along with the fact that he never got any playing time even when Torborg was here despite the fact Redmond was struggling
October 25, 200322 yr surely if castro was 'that' good...he would get more than an at bat every week or so here and there... Redmond always started because he has good bat control. And hitting third, they could use the hit-and-run whenever Juan or Luis was on and he was up. And they DID bring in Ramon for most power-needed situations, and he produced in the clutch almost every single time (example: (1) Phillies, pinch hit double, two runs score, helps sweep. (2.) Dodgers, walk-off home-run).
October 25, 200322 yr Let's see, the guys that have started over him are Charles Johnson and Ivan Rodriguez, so I think it's safe to say it's because of depth. here's another question: why spend money on Pudge in the 1st place this past January when we have Castro? I knew someone was going to ask that, and the answer is simple: the fans. The team needed a star to draw in some much needed fans, and he happened to be the one available.

October 25, 200322 yr that move might say a lot about how they feel about Castro, along with the fact that he never got any playing time even when Torborg was here despite the fact Redmond was struggling Isn't Jeff Torborg the one who said Ramon was definately going to be an All-Star one day? And Jeff knows a little something about catching. I rest my case.
October 25, 200322 yr and now their going to let fan favorite go after getting at least a game from the World title 6 years after what happened the last time in order to save money and give a chance to somebody they obviously arent comfortable with? If it means keeping Mike Lowell and helping solidify the bullpen, yes. If they care about winning, they let him go. Remember, winning is what draws fans. NOT certain players. I think we found that out first hand this season.
October 25, 200322 yr Isn't Jeff Torborg the one who said Ramon was definately going to be an All-Star one day? And Jeff knows a little something about catching. I rest my case. LMAO! Isn't Jeff Torborg the guy who didn't know how to manage much less predict anything right? I rest my case...

And Jeff knows a little something about catching. I rest my case. saying something is different from actually showing how you feel. how come he never got any playing time while Redmond struggled as the backup? you rely to much on stats and quotes man. and did i mention (repeatedly) that Castro is not even guaranteed to us next year
October 25, 200322 yr how come he never got any playing time while Redmond struggled as the backup? Repeat: Redmond always started over Castro because he has good bat control. Why do you think he always hit third in the order whenever he was in? They always had the option to hit-and-run whenever Juan or Luis were on, and he was up. saying something is different from actually showing how you feel. Why would he lie about that? It's not like anybody tied him down and forced him to say it. It's his opinion, and like I said, if I'm going to trust Jeff's opinion about a certain position, catcher is going to be it.
