March 9, 200818 yr We got a sample of most of those guys in ST, and based on that alone I would say Olsen has the edge. He had the edge even before spring training started and I think he increased his chances by being the most consistent starter out of the regular rotation so far. However, we haven't seen Mitre yet and I think Miller will begin to find his control sometime this spring. He obviously has the most talent out of everyone in the rotation but Olsen is probably considered the safer choice for opening day. IMO it should come down to who will give us the best chance to win against Santana.
March 9, 200818 yr Olsen, hands down. Mitre is banged up and he just wont be ready. Miller still needs more time to work on his control, he's deffinately got the stuff though.
March 9, 200818 yr I would love it to be the Captain, but it looks like it's going Olsen's way and I can't argue with that.
March 9, 200818 yr Author Olsen. I don't see how this is under debate. based on what? Obviously not on his peformance last year. I don't necessarily disagree that he should be the opening day starter, but I didn't like the fact that he had an edge coming into ST. It's still early with over 2 weeks of spring training left to play. It should still be a battle based entirely on peformance between the best starters. All I'm saying is don't count Miller out yet. He just came off four strong innings and more importantly he kept the walks down. In the end, it will probably be Olsen. I just hope he earns it in spring and not by the fact that he's been a Marlin longer than any other current starter.
March 9, 200818 yr I am sure it will be Olsen but Miller's stuff is electric by ST end he will be our number 1 starter
March 9, 200818 yr Olsen is the front runner but to say it is not open to debate is ridiculous. Is he a lock because he was so dependable and such a great team leader last year? LOL
March 10, 200818 yr Olsen has definitely performed this spring so far... It doesn't look like anyone is threatening him.
March 19, 200818 yr Well I say it?ll be Miller. Already mensioned , he has some electric stuff and the only thing that seperates him from Olsen is his experience. Olsen performed well this ST , but Miller threw more pitches and to me he is in better shape then Olsen is.
