June 17, 200818 yr If we were able to trade Jason Vargas for 2 relievers who are capable of pitching in the big leagues...I wouldn't rule out a solid trade for Andino. Well, Vargas is a starting pitcher, arguably a slightly more valuable commodity. He was also a number two pick who played somewhat decently in 2005. Still, his minor league numbers aren't very good. If the Marlins can find another idiotic GM like Minaya they can probably get something for him. I wouldn't count on it, though. It's also rather common to find "old" relievers doing well in AA. When we traded for Owens, he was in his first year in AA as a 27 year old, Lindstrom was in his second as a 26 year old. We also traded Bostick, who was coming off a rather decent year in AA as a 23 year old as a starter. With his K numbers, I wouldn't be surprised if Bostick ended up becoming a decent reliever. And for as much as Lindstrom is talked up on this forum, he really is not that good. His WHIP last year was average (1.30) and this year his K numbers and WHIP have been going to hell. And for as nice as Owen's ERA was last year, his periphials weren't very good (although with his MILB K history, I'm think he'll definitely raise those K n umbers) I'm not saying we didn't get the better part of the deal, but I don't really think we completely ripped them off either. Vargas is a POS and Bostick isn't that good, but it's not like we got a Papelbon or Mo in return. Also, yes, Texas has a lot of catchers but their need is start pitching. We have a lot of starting pitching and our need is catcher. 1+1=2 but probably won't happen. I'd love for us to trade Tucker for Teagarden or Max since I personally don't think he'll stick as a starter, but I doubt it happens, and if Texas is going to trade for a starter they're going to want someone they know will stick at SP. Lindstrom threw in 71 games last year, and posted a 3.09 ERA, 1.3 WHIP, and 19 holds. Owens was closing till he got injured, and would be with the big league team, if he wasn't injured. Vargas...they hit him in "las nargas" when he came up... I also believe that a guy that throws 100 (Lindstrom), has more potential than anyone in this deal...seriously, Vargas (not only is he not good, but his stuff...isn't good either, and neither is his nibbling control). I can't say I know much about Bostick, but at best...he'll be like 1 of the 2 guys WE GOT in the trade. So I'd say it was a nice trade. As for trading Tucker for Salty...I personally wouldn't. I don't like the idea of trading 21 year old pitchers with potential. At the end of the day, "you never have too much pitching." So Salty can stay in Texas, if that's the case.
June 17, 200818 yr A 1.30 whip is nothing to brag about And Owens closing out games didn't mean anything. Again, his peripherals weren't good. And 100 MPH doesn't really mean anything. Lindstrom's fastball is like portia de rossi: hot, but flat as hell. And his breaking stuff really isn't all that good. I'm not saying it wasn't a nice trade but it wasn't a fleece. People talk it up as if it was one of the greatest trades of all time. Getting relatively old average relievers for a sh*tty young SP and a young SP who might turn into an average RP is not some groundbreaking trade.
June 17, 200818 yr [b) Calm down. Seems like every one of your posts lately, is bashing everyone on this board. If you don't like the "non-realists" on this board, why even post on here? It seems as if everyone is irritating you, everytime you post. This is a relatively new phenomenon.
June 17, 200818 yr 'Hoping' for trades is best kept to oneself unless it is the least bit grounded in reality. Last season it was highly doubtful that a pre-implosion Dontrelle Willis could even meet the demands for Salty. And I agree that Lindstrom is nothing special. I wasn't excited about him when we got him. Of the three acquisitions, only Owens really interested me.

Velocity like that is not taught. Lindstrom can learn another pitch perhaps next Spring Training or something, etc. That's really all he needs, imo. He needs to learn how to throw a damn breaking ball with consistency, and he can dominate. I'm not saying it was the greatest trade ever...but...Vargas and Bostick haven't even proven they can be "average" ML pitchers, since they joined the Mets.
June 17, 200818 yr Sigh. A 100 mph fastball means nothing if you don't have a variety of other pitches, change speeds well, or have careful precision. 'Learning another pitch' is not always that easy. The Marlins didn't get robbed in this trade as everyone knew Vargas was a bust, but that doesn't mean the Marlins couldn't have gotten even better talent elsewhere.
June 17, 200818 yr And 100 MPH doesn't really mean anything. Lindstrom's fastball is like portia de rossi: Gay and engaged to Ellen DeGeneris?

Lindstrom will be effective if better used. If he follows up the lefty junk, his fastball would look 200 MPH
June 19, 200818 yr Anyways... John Gall in 2008: .357/.410/.553 John Gall on Road: .217/.278/.349 John Gall at Home: .456/.500/.698
June 19, 200818 yr Because Andino is on the 40-man, while Gall is not Ding Ding Ding! That is the right answer

You seem to have the "he could've done better" part, down pact. I would like to see you get the job one day...you make it sound easy. He probably couldn't have done MUCH better, if he could've done better, b/c Vargas is well...as mediocre as it gets.

Everytime we talk about Beinfest the words "Beinfest type player" and he "probably could have done better" seem to always come out of your mouth. If you think this, I'd like to see what you could do with a 22 million dollar payroll (thanks to the cheap owner). Admin's team is now 6 games over .500, with the lowest payroll in the league, surprising all of baseball. So really...what else would you like me to say? If that is your opinion, I'd love to see you have a GM job, one day, to see the masterpiece you and the few other experts on this board would put on the field b/c you sure do make it sound, rather, easy.
June 19, 200818 yr You don't have to say anything at all especially if it's going to be gibberish like "let's see you do better." You've been posting here for what? A couple of months. You have the right to disagree with me but to stereotype my posting regarding a handful of universally regarded as mediocre players is naive and laughable.

How am I stereotyping when I'm just saying what you say all the time? Do you know what sterotyping means? I mean, seriously, ok...EVERY TIME there's a conflict regarding the team (call ups, etc.), the reason why a certain player is here over another, is b/c he's a "Beinfest type player," like Julio, Olivo, Abercrombie, blah, blah, blah. But...but...lets not say the good things, right? What's Jorge Cantu? You know...our 3rd hitter, who's currently doing well with the bat? Is he a Beinfest type player, as well? Listen, say what you want...but your criticism over a GM that is at worst, above average, certainly makes no sense. (and yes, you do have the right to that opinion, but I have mine also). I know you take my posts as a joke...you've said so before. So I'm not expecting a real response from you, anyways. Fact is, Admin Beinfest has a payroll that doesn't even compare to any other ML organization, and yet, he's put a competitive team out on the field. If you can't admit to that, then I guess there's no point to really be on here. (which you probably won't b/c according to you, this team will fall back to Earth, very soon...although you said this a couple weeks ago, and well...it hasn't really happened yet...no credit to Beinfest of course)

June 19, 200818 yr I have this crazy idea we got andino beefed up so he looks like he can swing a 30 ounce bat c if that changes anything in his batting if not we tarde him 4 a decen catcher or a reliever Also this isnt gonna work with all these people in the mnors Maybin- our future Draft pick whos name slips me- future catcher in 1 or 2 seasons Gall - 30 not gonna be our fututre if he stays there anyloger Mcfearson- definatly an option if jake or cantu go down Brett Carrol- Has amazing defensive potentiol cant say the same offensively but hes a 7 -9 inning guy 4 dfence unless he shows some pop Then we got Hammer coming back up in 3 weeks JJ oming back up in a month Captain Mitre by august Anibal in end of the summer there is no way soem of these kid will get called up maybin yes catcher yes mcfearson yes but with hanley for 70 mill til like 2012 we dont need a shortstop anytime soon nd we gonna resing Uggla 4 about 5 years aswell My biggest concern is wats gonna happen when u gotta call up Mitre JJ Anibal and Hammer especially the starting rotation

I haven't heard much on Mitre lately, either. Regardless, which ever one comes back first, will take Hendrickson's spot in the rotation, imo. With Hammer, it's not really a problem. Send down Andino, and put Gonzo back on the bench. The starting lineup becomes better, and the bench becomes a lot better.

Reggie may have been a bust with us but his upside was too good to pass up. He just wasn't MLB ready but we had a deep need to have anyone play CF at that time. And lo and behold, that "Beinfest guy" got beat out last year in ST by De Aza. Do you think a rookie manager out-voted our GM?
