July 5, 200818 yr Don't just blame Kevin Gregg, blame them all. Olsen for 9 runs Tank for 3 runs. Miller for 2 runs. Kensing for 2 runs. Gregg for 2 runs. A f***ing indignity.
July 5, 200818 yr Yep, that's our "glorious" bullpen now. They had a great April, and after that they've decided to lay a big f***ing ostrich egg.
July 5, 200818 yr Blame Fredi for bringing Gregg in to close instead of leaving Waechter in. Also, if the game had gone to extras, Gregg was out last pitcher and we used Waechter for one batter, that's bad managing.
July 5, 200818 yr Rab, we scored 17 runs. Gregg is our closer, he had a lead, he blew it. BLAME GREGG. A CLOSER IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BLOW SAVES LIKE ITS ALL GOOD. He did it yesterday, he did it today, he's done it six times this season. He NEEDS to go.
July 5, 200818 yr Author Rab, we scored 17 runs. I didn't say to not blame him, I said to not blame him alone. Like you said, 17 runs. What the f*** is happening with the rest of the pitcher when you need to bring your closer in after getting 17 f***ing runs. Kevin Gregg should have been having a f***ing beer on a lounge chair at the end of the game, not pitching. The rest of the pen f***ed up majorly as well. Scott Olsen had the worst game of his life. F*** Kevin Gregg for that last 2 runs, but also f*** Olsen, Tank, Miller, and Kensing for the first 16.
July 5, 200818 yr Of all the pitchers Tankersley unquestionably looked the worst out there. Why he is back up is beyond me. I don't think Scott took having a lead seriously enough but he wouldn't be the first pitcher to do that. It has to be enormously frustrating for the position players who go to bed tonight knowing scoring seventeen runs wasn't enough.
July 5, 200818 yr It's true what my dad was saying. Seems like an eternity ago, but Scott Olsen walking the reliever on 4 pitches, in the 2nd inning, followed by 2 RBI hits, really set the tone for the pitching tonight. That's inexcusable. Again...how does this have NOTHING to do with the pitching coach?
July 5, 200818 yr While the bullpen and Scott blew, the point remains we had a one run lead going into the 9th and chose to go with our LAST pitcher. A pitcher who is worse than the man currently in the game who threw all of 3 pitches. How can you allow your best relievers (Nelson and Weatchner) to only pitch a combined 1 inning? Poor bullpen managment. BTW Beinfest is to blame also. You know Fredi is Admin's bitch and if Admin wants Gregg in, he will go in.
July 5, 200818 yr Fredi played way too conventional tonight. Why couldn't Doug go out there for three more outs? Why does Gregg HAVE to close? I understand that Fredi wanted to give Gregg a shot to redeem himself, but Jesus Christ lad. How much more inefficient can you be with your bullpen goddamit!

A pitching coach can't really make a guy get control, all they can do is try to fix their mechanics by letting them know what is going wrong. Ask your brother if he ever felt it was the pitching coaches fault when he couldn't throw strikes.

How Dougie was not out there in the 6th inning I will never know. But how he wasn't out there for the 7th is unanswerable.
July 5, 200818 yr Did anybody watch BBTN yet or sportscenter. If so what are they saying about florida? im scared to look because then i will break my TV if the make fun of us.

My brother didn't get much help from pitching coaches in the minors, actually...he has told me this, himself, a couple times. He actually says a pitching coach is pointless. Ironically, he's a pitching coach now for the Florida Pokers. My question would be, what's the point in having them, then? Fix mechanics...wouldn't the pitchers gain some better control of the plate, with the better mechanics?

July 5, 200818 yr I am tired of this crap shoot bullpen but... I love the Marlins and tomorrow is a new day and new game. I dont see the Marlins making the playoffs this year we have too many bullpen issues but we can still fight for it, I just dont see it long term this year.

July 5, 200818 yr Yeah, but do you really have confidence in Tucker and Hendrickson pitching back to back games at Coors now? I smell a four game sweep.

July 5, 200818 yr A pitching coach can't really make a guy get control, all they can do is try to fix their mechanics by letting them know what is going wrong. For the sake of not starting an argment on a frustrating night I'm going to agree with you except to say pitching coaches especially at this level have far greater responsibilities (both to the team as a whole and to the individual players he supervises) and in reality it isn't that simple. It may be this one makes a better consultant than coach. It's late and maybe this is a subject best discussed another day.
July 5, 200818 yr In this series, Waechter has pitched 0.2 innings. Maybe someone should tell Fredi he can go 3+.
July 5, 200818 yr The pitching coach is in charge of the pitching. He has to answer for the performance. Much like how managers in companies don't control their employees directly by doing things for them, they are still responsible for the poor performance for employees who they are in charge of. Besides, I fail to see how the pitching staff could be any worse if you bring in someone else.
July 5, 200818 yr Author It's time for someone to stop being arrogant. Gregg isn't doing his job, face it. Who's being arrogant? What does arrogance even have anything to do with this? Here is a quiz: Did Olsen give up 9 runs? (Y/N) Did Tankersley give up 3 runs? (Y/N) Did Miller give up 2 runs? (Y/N) Did Kensing give up 2 runs? (Y/N) If you answered yes to any of these questions (Cheat sheet: Y, Y, Y, Y) you can't blame Gregg alone. I don't think I've ever seen a starter give up 9 runs and get almost no blame for a loss.
