July 24, 200817 yr Been a very long time since I have posted anything on these boards, but I have finally found some time to do so. With the trading deadline a week away, I thought it would be a good time to start sifting through all the trade rumors swirling about the Marlins and creating some realistic trade proposals. Trade Proposal #1 The Florida Marlins trade 1B Mike Jacobs and P Ryan Tucker to the Baltimore Orioles for RP George Sherill. Reasoning: With this trade the Marlins acquire the top lefty reliever they have been wanting to complement Kevin Gregg in the bullpen and could step in as the closer if Kevin Gregg struggles. Sherill will also be under Marlins control through the 2010 season, unlike the other two top lefty relievers Damaso Marte and Brian Fuentes. This makes Sherill the most attractive option to the Marlins. For the Orioles, they need a 1B as Kevin Millar has been inconsistent and will be turning 37 by season's end. They don't have anyone ready in their system to come up and start at 1B, so Mike Jacobs makes sense for them. With Jacobs, they acquire a lefty power threat to put in the middle of the lineup. In Ryan Tucker, they have a potential future number four or five starter. Trade Proposal #2 The Florida Marlins trade LF Josh Willingham, RP Taylor Tankersley, and SP Mark Hendrickson to the Atlanta Braves for OF Jeff Franceour and RP Will Ohman. Reasoning: The Marlins will have 13 arbitration-eligible players at season's end and may need to start exploring trades involving these players. The Braves need a reliable left fielder who can hit for power in their lineup and that's what Willingham will bring to the Braves. For the Marlins, Jeff Franceour has one year less experience than Willingham, so the Marlins will essentially swap outfielders, but with Franceour still with two years left under Marlins control. Then, the Marlins add yet another quality left-hander into the bullpen in Will Ohman who will still be under Marlin control next season. The Braves acquire a nice young left-hander to replace Ohman in the bullpen in Tankersley who just needs to work on his control, which the Braves staff has been known to do in the past. Now with these two trades, the Marlins address the glaring need in the bullpen for quality lefty arms. After these two trades, the Marlins promote 3B Dallas McPherson to the major league team to start at 3B and can finally move Jorge Cantu over to 1B. Here would be the new lineup. (This is NOT a batting order.) C John Baker 1B Jorge Cantu 2B Dan Uggla SS Hanley Ramirez 3B Dallas McPherson RF Jeremy Hermida CF Cody Ross LF Jeff Franceour Here would be the starting rotation and bullpen. 1. Ricky Nolasco 2. Scott Olsen 3. Josh Johnson 4. Chris Volstad 5. Soon to be Anibal Sanchez CP Kevin Gregg SU George Sherill SU Matt Lindstrom MR Reynel Pinto MR Will Ohman MR Joe Nelson LR Doug Waechter
July 24, 200817 yr Well thought out and nice info. I still think they should look at a Marte or a Fuentes and keep most of the team together. I think Bullpen help is what they need, they have a good offense. They are -30 in run difference because of the defense/pitching not the offense. But I like they way you are thinking. BIG.
July 24, 200817 yr id prefer not to trade away Tank as he is another lefty we could use and trade away one of the Gabys
July 24, 200817 yr I like the idea of the Sherill trade but the Francoeur trade is kind of a head-scratcher. Namely because Francoeur sucks this year. .231/.286/.369. PASS

PASS I also like the idea of Sherill but not at the expense of Tucker. Maybe a G. Hernandez, or an A. Thompson. Sherill has only done it for half a season and Tucker's upside is much higher than Sherill's.

PASS I also like the idea of Sherill but not at the expense of Tucker. Maybe a G. Hernandez, or an A. Thompson. Sherill has only done it for half a season and Tucker's upside is much higher than Sherill's. He had a great year last year: 2.36 ERA with a WHIP under 1. This year he's not doing so well...3.89 ERA, 1.416 WHIP. Maybe you're right, lol...I'm not so sure I want to trade away Tucker for that. Plus, Sherrill is 31, so there is no upside.
July 24, 200817 yr I hope the only trade(s) we make are Jacobs or Mcpherson along with some B level prospects to plug holes. I don't want to give up A level prospects unless these are guys we plan on keeping around for a long time. I would like to see moves made to improve the defense, and just getting Jacobs out of 1B would be a start in that direction. I'm still pretty confident, than when our bullpen is healthy, it's good enough. A Jacobs deal for an arm makes the most sense to me.
July 24, 200817 yr I dont believe the braves or the marlins would trade with each other. We wouldnt give them someone who could potentially come back to haunt us and they wouldnt do the same. I'm really hoping the marlins are making a push for pudge. I know they said he is not available but you never know. I strongly believe if we get pudge again we will win this division.
July 24, 200817 yr We've made tons of trades with the Mets...why wouldn't we trade with the Braves? We even gave them Mike Hampton before.
July 24, 200817 yr We've made tons of trades with the Mets...why wouldn't we trade with the Braves? We even gave them Mike Hampton before. True, but I still dont believe we would do it now especially seeing how the braves are only 6 games back from the division and 5 from us. That number really isnt that much of a comfortable lead. If we give them Jacobs and some potentially major league ready prospects they might just have enough to make a good run.
July 24, 200817 yr I don't want to trade with the Braves unless it is a fire sale trade (like our Mets trades) and Francour will never prosper in DS. We are also offering far too much in each example trade. Sherill might be had for just Tucker if we were so inclined, and I am not as quick to dismiss the value of a player on a pace for 33-35 HRs in one of the most anti-lefty ballparks in MLB just because he had a bad June.

July 24, 200817 yr I think a Tex and ohman or gonzalez from the braves to the marlins in exchange for jacobs, and 2 or 3 prospects B or c level will be great for both teams. an upgrade in the bullpen right now, a upgrade at first now, and when tex walks, 2 draft picks in the 1st 45 picks of the draft. chris

July 24, 200817 yr Ryan Tucker, and John Raynor to Baltimore for George Sherrill and Nick Markakis. Not gonna happen but worth a shot.
July 24, 200817 yr Sherrill against RHB this year: 1.55 WHIP career: 1.71 WHIP Sherrill is an AMAZING LOOGY, but nothing more. You don't trade a player of Tucker's level for a LOOGY.

The second trade...does getting Francouer help us, in any way? Plus, why would the Braves want Hendrickson? Ohman is nice, but we could get him for a mid-level prospect. Trading Tankersley is unnecessary, imo.
