August 1, 200817 yr link The Florida Marlins were on the verge of acquiring future Hall of Fame outfielder Manny Ramirez from the Boston Red Sox before Thursday's trade deadline, but Ramirez ended up with the Dodgers instead. As a consolation prize, the Marlins traded for journeyman reliever, and former Phillies, Arthur Rhodes, from the Seattle Mariners for minor league pitcher Gaby Hernandez. Not only did the Marlins not get better by getting Manny, but they actually got worse by acquiring Rhodes. Most Phillies' fans look back on the year Rhodes spent in Philadelphia with mild disgust. Rhodes went 0-5 with a 5.32 ERA and three blown saves. Way to go Marlins, way to go.
August 1, 200817 yr ey silli fans that was because he didn't want to be part of the second worst franchise ever, lol. don't listen to them they are not experts in winning...phillies= 10,000 losses
August 1, 200817 yr Did Jonathan Atwood just put an opinion in his writing! Epic Failure, his site should be shut down. "Marlins acquire Rhodes, become Worse Team" That makes absolutely no sense, I think I am going to sign up and post a comment.
August 1, 200817 yr Its just bitter Phillies fans. Notice how the article lists him as a failure along with Antonio Alfonseca and Jose Mesa. Of course they neglect to mention that Alfonseca had several excellent years with the Marlins, and Mesa was an elite closer at one time. The logic in that article is "this guy sucked in Philly, so he's got to suck everywhere else". No analysis went into that at all, basically just an angry fan, probably peeved his team made no moves at the deadline, looking for any excuse to mock a division rival. I know its a Phillies blog, but that article is pretty facetious even for its target audience.
August 1, 200817 yr Funny thing is that Philly was one of five teams trying to sign Rhodes just a few days ago, but I guess that doesn't count. He's been a different pitcher since coming back from Tommy John as his stats the last two months confirm. I wonder what would have been written if Philly in fact had reacquired him?

Phillies Re-Acquire former MVP vote receiving LHP Arthur Rhodes Comments: Yay, now we have someone to eliminate the bats of Delgado and other lefties in our divison, Championship! Book it!

August 1, 200817 yr Most Phillies' fans look back on the year Rhodes spent in Philadelphia with mild disgust. Rhodes went 0-5 with a 5.32 ERA and three blown saves. That gives us already a reason to like him doesn't it, since he was awful in Philly and has had some success everywhere else.
August 1, 200817 yr Also just wanted to add, we gave up nothing for Rhodes (well a fringe minor leaguer). So theoretically its impossible for the trade to make us worse, unless we pitch him even after he is terrible for us. Its not like we gave up something useful for him... if he stinks, we just don't pitch him (and I doubt that will happen). Just a terribly biased article, its more like a post someone would make in a forum, not a headline article on your team's blog.
August 1, 200817 yr Philly fans are idiots, we'll see how bad we are, when the Marlins come to Philly and wipe the floor with their stupid red jerseys.
August 1, 200817 yr Mehh, just as dumb and ignorant as the national sports media that gets off on saying the Marlins have "no pitching" and that the ERA is "bottom of the league" without even bothering to look deeper in the fact that the rotation was massively upgraded in July with guys they have never heard of, but are already proven talents that just aren't the "big names" they jack off to.
August 1, 200817 yr Just fan banter because they know they are going to have a hard time winning the division.
August 1, 200817 yr who cares about the f***ing philly fans and their opinion on us... i would like to see a Marlins/Phillies all out brawl that involves Amezaga beating the sh*t out of Ryan Howard
August 1, 200817 yr Philly fans will still be trying to figure out how we won the division with our "worse" team, but they'll have plenty of time in October to mull it over :thumbup

August 1, 200817 yr If we figure out how to beat Moyer, we will sweep the Phillies all year. LoL. My idea is that we should put our vets in when we play him. helms and Gonzo. They will know how to make runs against him.
August 1, 200817 yr the media is always giving credit to the mets and phillies. we'd be lucky to hear the marlins being mentioned on ESPN, even when we were in first.
August 1, 200817 yr the media is always giving credit to the mets and phillies. we'd be lucky to hear the marlins being mentioned on ESPN, even when we were in first. They were talking about the NL EAST they mentioned us at the top of the segment, proceeded to talk about the Mets, Phillies, and no mention of us after the 1 little shout-out we got but w/e f*** it, they wanna ignore us until we come stomping through in september then that is ok.. that is fine with me... we can be the "surprise team" again....
