One thing that bothers me about the sensationalism here some times.

While we had a ton of trouble when we first came out of the break, we really haven't had trouble scoring runs for about a week now. We've scored 5 runs 5 times in the last 8 games (I know I sound like a broken record, but what can I say?), that's 6 runs vs the Cubs, 7 runs twice against the Mets, and 12 runs and 5 runs vs the Rox.

I think we'll be fine offensively.

Great post and I've been saying this all year long. National people ( like ESPN) look at the Overall Stats and just go on that, which is obviously ridiculous. If we include the 3 weeks before the trade deadline, anyone who REALLY knows baseball and the Florida Marlins knows that the Florida Marlins had the best mid-season "acquisitions." in MLB by far. Even with not getting Manny Ramirez. What other team in baseball can say that during the second half of the season, they brought in 3 YOUNG STARTING pitchers who could quite possibly be the best in the rotation. (I know Nolasco has been awesome, but JJ, Anibal, and Volstad are legit)...Along with that, the Florida Marlins also filled their biggest need, which was help in the bullpen against lefties, which is esp. important with all the lefties in the NL East.

The Marlins have the most powerful offense in baseball and soon people may be saying they have the best starting rotation in baseball as well...Thats a pretty nice recipe for success and that be saying, makes me wonder by "Florida Marlins fans" said the fish didn't do "enough" during the regular season to make this team better..What a joke.

"The Marlins have the most powerful offense in baseball"

Huh? Maybe by HR alone...

"best starting rotation in baseball as well"

This is when I know your a true delusional team homer.

"the fish didn't do "enough" during the regular season to make this team better"

They didn't, our pitchers just recover from surgery.

Don't post if you ddon't know what you are talking about.

How about YOU don't post when you don't know what you are talking about. Our CURRENT rotation is one of the best right now - Top 10. Since when was the word delusional synonymous with the word accurate?

Then why didn't he write it the correct way. Best in baseball mean #1 which is false with this team.

His comment was that he felt that people MAY be saying that the rotation is the best in baseball. That sounds to me like a very subjective statement based on legit info. Objectively we have a pretty good rotation. Subjectively, you can think whatever you want about our rotation whether its the best or not, but saying that someone is delusional for THINKING we MAY have the best rotation is a stretch.

Yes.

We haven't swept a team in ages. That's what is frustrating to me. I wish Fredi didn't have the philosphy to just "win series." For example, Joe Maddon makes it clear to his players when you win the first two games of a series, you damn well better take the third game too.

I don't want to bash Fredi, but I really feel like he just settles for "winning series" or "splitting series." I would like for him to push his players to change their mindset to sweeping series. At this point, every game truly counts, and you HAVE to go in for the sweep.

Two out of three just isn't going to cut it the rest of the year if we want to make the playoffs, via division OR wild card.

i disagree, we can take 2 out of 3 and be fine, our problem has been winning 2 out of 3 and the next series we lose 2 out of 3, so we just end that 6 game stretch at .500, we haven't seemed to make much progress since late June. We have had a major problem wit consistency. When our pitching is good, our hitting is bad, when our hitting is good, our pitching is bad. For us to be able to stay in the hunt we need to start get clutch hits wit RISP and our fielders need to help our pitchers out. We will be fine taking 2 out of 3 66% of the series from now on

Yes.

But the runs scored are only in blowout games it seems. We leave to many men on base. We need to learn some small ball or how to move a runner.

If I am not mistaken, Fredi took that philosophy of winning two out of three from Bobby Cox. We dont really need to go that far back into the record books to see how well that worked out for him. anyways, there is 50 games left in the season. if we win 2 out of 3 from here on out we will be around 92-70. I'm pretty sure thats enough to win our division. anyways, its highly unlikely that we will win exactly 2 out of ever three games this season, but I'm just trying to point out that winning 2 out of 3 is not a bad thing at all. infact if a team wins 2 out of 3 from the beginning of the season they will be 108-54.

I'd put our team up against any other team in the NL right now. There isn't a single NL team that I don't think we can beat on any given day. The only major concern I have with this team is the situational hitting. I just don't think Presley teaches these guys to work counts or move runners over. He teaches them to all be sluggers and that worries me. But outside of that this team kicks ass

Im fine with taing 2 of 3 from tough teams llike the cubs mets and phil but the rox and nats and other garbage teams i wished wed sweep.

it sucks that moyer is pitching in the first game of the series, he's a marlin killer.

Yes, it does.

But it could also be a good thing.

B/c if the team somehow manages to beat Moyer, they'll feel unstoppable. It's basically the ONLY THING they haven't proven they can do.

Moyer is 10-0. That is awesome. The good news is...he's due for a loss against us, just like Brad Lidge is due for a couple of blown saves before the year ends.

yea and that bastard lidge almost blew one yesterday but he got out of it like a little bitch

Marlins are one of the better situational hitting teams in the NL. As fans, we expect to win every game, and look at any loss as missed opportunities rather than the whims and flow of baseball.

Marlins overall OPS: .758(6th)

Marlins situational OPS numbers:

Close and Late: .799 (2nd)

RISP: .771 (5th)

The team improves in both raw numbers and ranking in the so-called 'situational' situations.

Then again, I don't see why we have to ignore slugging. It's a big part of the game, and a big part of the Marlins game. It helps win ballgames.

but the biggest part is getting THE CLUTCH HIT with runners in scoring position, we can be great at slugging the ball with RISP but if u can't get a hit those runs or get on base will not score in,

come on guys show a little faith ;) let's trust our team and go out to the ballpark and root for them...it's august so more people should start going.

we have gotten alot of clutch hits this season around 31 correct me if i am wrong

But that works both ways.

Lets say the team has a man at 1st & 2nd with 0 outs...you'd rather have a single translating to ONE run, instead of slugging out an additional two, with a 3-run HR (which this team has shown ALL YEAR, it can do very well)? I'd rather have 3 runs, instead of 1.

Of course, you can't hit a HR everytime, but if you can do it once over the course of a game (as the team has done plenty of times this year), it gives you a better chance to win, than just scratching out singles (which is far more difficult than some people think).

come on guys show a little faith ;) let's trust our team and go out to the ballpark and root for them...it's august so more people should start going.

sorry to tell u, but come from behind could mean anything, u could be in the 2nd inning and be down 1-0 and that goes to the come from behind stat, i feel clutch hits are when there are guys in scoring position and u find some way to get at least 1 run in, not getting a bases empty home run. U cannot rely on that every time, because then the other teams will start putting in their slowest pitchers and suddenly nothing is going out and u are getting no hit going into the 7th inning.

but little singles lead to rallys, getting men on base rattles the pitcher, makes them throw from the stretch and totally throws them off, when u hit the solo home run they have time to get themself together, work from the wind-up, work the corners instead of trying to just throw a strike because they are worried about loading the bases

But we're NOT talking about solo HR's. We're talking about .RISP...talking about the 3-run HR, for example.

It's very difficult to keep hitting singles. It's not easy.

A 3-run HR (slugging) leads to the same amount of runs as getting 3 singles in a row with .RISP (in the situation I proposed...men at 1st & 2nd, 0 outs).

Your AVERAGE goes up by getting more hits, but in the end, if you hit a 3-run HR (by slugging) it's really the same thing (same amount of runs come in).

That's why you really can't ignore .OPS (or slugging, in general).

BUT IT KIlls the rally, repetitive hits and getting to the pitcher lead to bad pitches and the pitch count going up, i would much rather see some consistency of hits from our players than just the occasional 3 run home run. That 3 run home run is why we see the other teams pitchers always going 7 or 8 innings against us

But at the end of the day, what matters is wins and losses.

Runs lead to wins, anyway you can get them.

And it's DIFFICULT to get repetitive hits.

It's not like it's just the Marlins...it's not easy, in general.

youre right again...but im sorry, i just wanna be a greedy fan of a greedy team...I'm tired of "six over .500"

...show me ten-twelve over .500...show me series sweeps...show me 6 runs off the opposing team's #5 starter...show me less LOB...show me dominance...

...show me first place!
