August 11, 200817 yr I don't buy it...If you can humm it at 95 mph why pitch at 87 mph so you can get hitters timing off? If he changes speed that 95 mph fast would seem like 105 mph. However he is just holding back. As a manager I would be bitching at my pitching coach about his coaching approach
August 11, 200817 yr Why? The results are clearly better than last year's. Pitching smart > throwing as hard as you can. Frankly, if he had any kind of run support, he would easily have at LEAST eleven wins.

It isn't how hard you can throw it, it is how hard you can throw it they way you need to.
August 11, 200817 yr throwing nothing but 88 MPH fastballs with a changegup that's barely any slower does not throw hitters timing off though. Throwing a fastball anywhere from 88 to 94 would screw up their timing. Throwing the fastball for 88 over and over again doesn't do sh*t

Yeah, but Im afraid he's more focused on "guiding" it now too... the balance in a pitcher is finding the happy medium between guiding and throwing, we saw that with Andrew Miller this year... he started of guiding the ball and got hammered, found that medium for a while and dominated then started throwing and it wound up getting hit..
