Anibal Sanchez

Featured Replies

It seems that of late Anibal has gotten worse after a reasonable return from his surgery. In his last 3 starts (1 vs Arizona, 2 vs Atlanta) he has given up 4, 4 and 6 runs in only 6.1, 5 and 3 innings. He has also walked 5 twice in the short span since his return, and has seen his ERA rise to 5.54.

Now is this all to be expected after his injury? Or are some of you slightly worried also that hes getting worse?

I was a HUGE Anibal fan in 2006 and eagerly anticipated his return in mid season this year but quite frankly I have no confidence in him pitch at this present time.

So I was wondering if you guys think Anibal is a definate member of the rotation to start next year? Or if further poor performances to close out this season could put that in doubt?

I dont know i mean hes coming back form surgery which lowers his potential. I think hes theres still a good chance he will be in the rotation.

Yes, he's a lock for the rotation. I doubt he's injured. The last time he hid an injury it potentially cost him several millions depending on the outcome of the arbitration hearing so I would hope he learned his lesson.

Given the depth of pitching I would hazard to say that no one is a real lock in the rotation. Sanchez is going through what any pitcher goes through during a season times when the velocity or location aren't there. I think the winter off will improve his situation towards winning a spot in the spring.

Do you guys think even if he doesn't show it...Sanchez could be pitching bad because he is still truly sad about the death of his son?

Dont give up on Anibal... he's comming off the worst injury a pitcher can get.... give him time and he's going to be a great pitcher for this team...

Obviously and understandably he will be mourning the loss of his son every single day

But imo it is surely due to his injury and rather that horrific incident that is the reason for him pitching bad

I dont know if it is right to have comparisons regarding matters like this because it affects everyone differently but Tiger Woods and Brett Favre didnt let the loss of loved ones affect their performances in their respective fields

He'll be in the rotation. If he's feeling the least bit fatigued or feeling any sort of pain, he needs to be shut down immediately.

He's a lock for the rotation next year, yeah. But he needs to be shut down for the rest of this season.

Why?

Not arguing, just asking.

so he can rest. in my opninion he came back 2 soon, i mean we all wish he could have been like JJ. I say put anibal in the long relief role let him have an appearance or 2 in relief and let miller start the rest of the year.

He was brought back with the idea that he would help us make a push for the pennant. However, now that we're out of it I wouldnt be opposed to shutting him down. And who knows maybe it is the death of his son that is affecting his play.

see my earlier thoughts on this in the thread.

if this really was the reason for affecting his play then he may never get back to his previous form cos he will never lose the feeling of sadness over what happened

Anibal is still adjusting, there is no way they give up on the kid. It is by no means a lock, but unless Scott Olsen stays and Brett Sinkbeil or Aaron Thompson mature dramatically quick then Anibal is still going to be in the rotation. Guys have some patience

he pitches for his son now

he said hed devote every pitch and every minute in his career to his son

he even draws a cross on the mound with his sons initials

I dont think Anibal has a good chance to be in next years rotation. Im pretty sue it will be JJ, Nolasco, Volstad, Miller, and one other minor leaguer.

Really? You are the first fan that I know of that predicts this outcome

Well, thats how I see it. It doesn't really matter to me if others agree with me. I think we could get some good value if we traded him.

Im more of the opinion we could get some good value if we start him

There's no one in the Marlins system that is ready to step into the rotation.
