The last time the management showed that they cared about winning to the fans was during the 2005 season when we signed Delgado, of course he didn't lead us to the playoffs but at least he showed us that he cared. I believe attendance was extremely high that year, all we want is for the FO to show us hope, show us they want to keep a core of players around for a while, and we will show up, i promise u

You're wrong, the attendance dropped from 26th in 2004 to 28th in 2005.

Actually, that is pretty high for the Marlins. :thumbup

The point is that Miami doesn't give a crap about "big names", they just say that as an excuse for not going to the games. We signed Delgado to a big deal and the attendance dropped.

ouch, I stand corrected, thanks Rab, just showed the marlins haven't had any fans show up to the game since 97, I don't even feel a new stadium will do it. If they wanted to bring fans, they should have built the stadium where the condos are (they weren't there last year) near Panthers arena, they could've attracted Hialiah, Broward, Pompano beach and others that i can't think of currently, all of these are via the turnpike. The marlins just ran out of time and i believe settled for Hialiah, in an area that is a bad nieborhood, I feel there will not be a huge increase in attendence

The OB site is nowhere near Hialeah, it's in Little Havana.

And, incase you were wondering, it's a much better neighborhood than where Dolphin Stadium is.

Depends how you see things.

DS is kind of away from all the housing, while the OB is literally surrounded by them.

I do not believe Little Havana is a great neighborhood

Housing is right there. If you exit from the turnpike and take the turn before the first entrance to the DS, you hit houses very quickly. I know because I mistakenly turned in there the first time I drove to a game.

thing is erick tell me all the big league names out there that are FA next year? or anyone for the matter so i can describe what i meant.

It's ugly and poor, but crime rates are low there, both property and violent crimes. Most people just assume that it is dangerous because it's full of poor hispanics.

Chicken or the egg? The Marlins can't exactly afford to sign anyone if people don't pay for attendance.

Paid attendance was almost 12,000 for todays game.

If the Marlins had high expectations for next season, I think they would be able to sell more than that in just season tickets.

That's almost nothing but season tickets.

Actually, the Marlins have less than 5,000 season tickets.

After a week or so, yeah.

Link.

First post here (although I've been lurking for a while). I follow the Marlins here in Tennessee.

What are the reasons why people don't go to the games?? I really don't know. It just amazes me nobody attends the games!?!? And this is Miami for goodness sake!

Can somebody clue me in on this? Is it some sort of sour grapes with the ownership?? (I vaguely remember somebody telling me that on an unrelated, non baseball message board last year)

See my post above.

Nobody cares about baseball down here.

I do.

We're nobodies then?

And... who cares? The attendance is bad and HAS been bad for a while. Shocking.

After a week or so, yeah.

Thats the opposite of what you just said.

How is that so?

I think people would be like "MANNY IS HERE!", maybe go to a couple games the first week he is here, and then forget about it entirely.

That's not caring, if you ask me.

After a week or so, yeah.

Oh, I was just referring to when you said "Miami doesn't care about big names".

I think they do, but they would rather see high expectations for the season, instead of one high quality player.

Ah, I get what you are saying. But what I meant was that people would "care" for a couple games and no longer. A Marlins team with or without Manny would end with the season attendance.

Trust me, I'm not trying to turn this into an "I wish we could have traded for Manny" thread, but if we had him, I think we would be in better shape than we are in now.

Manny would not only draw for a little while just because he is a big name player, but if he kept the Marlins in contention for the playoffs, he could have affected the attendance for the rest of the season.

Well, that's assuming he did. Even if he came over here and he murdered the ball, we would still be in bad shape given that everyone else on the team would still be hitting like sh*t.

ok Erick...this is just an example. all the players in bold...say we signed them. would it make us better? honestly i believe so.....ifi t makes us better we win more games which= fans. lets say we somehow lock up each and evry player for 5 years.....that shows the fans devotion, during those 5 years the team is going to win games and hopefully go to playoffs each year for a chance at the ring. i bolded ayala because i wouldn't nd him in our bullpen. i hope i explained myself a bit better

The Rays are leading their division and draws only 16,000.
