Only 600 fans at game today!!!

Featured Replies

It's no shock that the Marlins have the worst fans in baseball.

No we don't. We have a small fan base, but to say that the fans they have are "the worst in baseball" is completely wrong.

Prove me wrong

Look around.

I see no one in my apartment but me

basically all the other day games today have attendances considerably less than the normal for that stadium

And it's gonna stay that way until you change your attitude. Teehee.

When someone finds me another team that schedules a midweek day game in 90 degree weather, I'll agree with there being "no excuse".

There is a reason no other team does this.

Well, the Rangers played an afternoon game against the Mariners today. It's usually about 90 plus degrees this time of the year there...then again I have no idea how many fans were at that game today.

The AP just said this:

The first home day game for the Rangers since July 13 drew an announced attendance of 12,882, though the stands appeared to be far emptier.

Our announced attendance was 11,211. So yeah, it's not just us.

Man, spin it however you want, but I doubt they had only 600 people there in Texas. We are the only place where that ever happens.

There really is no excuse for this. Very very sad.

Atleast once a new stadium rolls around, attendance will be higher and we wont have to worry about the team moving.

1) We don't know that for sure

and

2) Let me tell you one thing about Miami/South Florida. It is the biggest bandwagon town in the entire U.S.A.!

Nobody cares about their teams down here unless they are in the championship, with the exception of the Miami Dolphins who have been continually bad for who knows how long. In Florida, football is king. Gators, Noles, Canes, Dolphins, Jags, Bucs. It's all that is ever talked about on the radio, TV, newspaper, and general public. When any of the other major sports teams in Miami are performing poorly, you'll see an empty arena/stadium.

Point in case, the Miami Heat. About five years ago, they were the laughing stock of the league. Then all of the sudden, Wade emerges as a star and Shaq is traded to them, and they are a hot commodity, quickly becomming the toughest ticket in town.

Walk down the street and ask a local how the Panthers are doing this year and you'll probably get a look as though you were from another planet. Either that or a response of "4 and 4, 3rd place. NFC South."

Other parts of the country care about their sports teams no matter how well they do.

I'm sure weather has somewhat of an effect on the attendance, but I think some of you people put way too much into that. The reason they don't draw well is because people don't care about baseball down here.

Thanks Puma. I hear what you're saying...but still. It would seem the population and the demographics of that population alone would be enough to garner more fans than what I am seeing. Again, it just amazes me.

who cares? 11 thousand tickets were sold only 600 showed up big deal

You know who cares, the people who want a new stadium, could you see the folks who don't want a stadium using this as proof.

Proof that people have to work and go to school?

And when other teams, draw 20k for a weekday game, do they not have the same excuse?

The Marlins play in a pitiful market, with horrible fans.

The fact that the Florida Marlins are a Mickey Mouse organization doesn't help the fan base, either.

You can't trade Miguel Cabrera and expect people to just come out and support the team. This fan base has been betrayed countless times, and I don't think we will see an improvement until our stars stay put. Signing Hanley is a good start, hopefully we'll see more and people will regain interest.

well we have a better record than Texas at least

I think this is a fair assessment for the most part... but with the caveat that just having stars stay put won't do it, we'll also have to win

The cubs, yanks and sox are th eonly teams that draw a good crowd at a day game in the middle of the week.

I don't consider myself a fan of the Marlins.

No one understands that people do not want to get into trouble for skipping work and school, so they dress up as orange seats-see it worked, now no one who called in sick gets in trouble.

Yeah , you're right. I was just automatically connecting stardom with winning.

I'm not spinning anything. I'm using actual numbers here. AP themselves said it was "far emptier" than 12,000.

It's stupidity, in this weather, during the school year, during the work week, to schedule a game at this time.

The only difference is that we get 16,000 per game and the Rangers get 25,000. Even a team that usually gets 25,000 a game can't bring in fans in this heat.

Stupidity.

Its sad to say most of the fans in the 97 and 03 playoffs are most probaly Mets fans rooting for us....

Not even close....

It was mostly people who never watched baseball but enjoy being winners.

I'll forgive you, you were young :p

Attendance won't be announced for several innings, but this appears to be the smallest actual attendance I've ever seen in Arlington in 12 seasons. There is not a single section in the stadium that looks even half-way full. Some in the press box have guessed seriously that there are less than 1,000 people here. I'm going to say it's under 2,500. I'm sure it will be announced as 12,000 to 15,000 in paid attendance, but there aren't 12,000 appendages in the ballpark today.
